First would be Mack Donald. I love this guy. I love his post, attitude and way he treats posters. The man offers wisdom that so many miss. Some understand totally Mr. M.

Second might surprise some folks is Go Sooners. I have had some differences with GS and bashed the hell out of him on some occasions, but I have no doubt he loves and knows college football.

Third, Conan. He and I are like salt and pepper (conservative south/liberal west) but the SOB is a football guy and gives a different take on the world of CFB. West coast homer...you bet. But to me he has always been fair and balanced.

My top three.......NOW let's hear from the veterans at this great CFB forum on the guys they would like to share coffee with.

If I had a lot of beers and begin to get rowdy.....probably Junk47 since he could clean house with 1 hand tied behind his back.

i'd be happy to throw one back with most anyone here Albatross. Caesar's is my favorite sportsbook in Vegas. I like the atmosphere there a lot. The lobster and all you can eat prime rib makes the carnivore in me very happy. But the all you can eat Alaskan King Crab legs at the Bellagio runs a respectable 2nd.

Usually I do on the table games like I do things here in CFB. Get the bankroll up and proceed to kill the bookmaker with his own money... then when it's all said and done, bring on the seafood -- lots of it... perhaps as a tribute to Jameis Winston? Eh?

That's about the only exception you might say is a liberal quality I'm occasionally known to display cloverfield -- just spend money like a fool, especially when it wasn't yours when you began gambling at the time.

Ronald Reagan enlightened me a long time ago. DAMN !! That's 50 years of blowing off bleeding hearts, cry babies and sore losers !! Time just flies when you're having fun.

I'd have a beer with any of you bastards!

I haven't been to Vegas in 4 years. Would love to go back soon. My work schedule is all jacked up. I'd love to get out there for a fall weekend in the near future!

Yeah Coach...I agree. I would even pick up the tap for the beer drinkers.

Ain't no way I would pay for Conan's $375 wine silliness.

Over the years, fond memories of this off season CFB forum.

Lot of good guys..................and I include Junk.

Would love to meet up with some of yall....I remember a few years back when we would get into some heated discussion regarding Oregon and Pac football.......good clean arguments. Now you and Red Eye are some the posters here I respect the most.

That was good stuff....haha.

Maybe it's just silly to take seriously much of what you see or hear about
ways the game is changing from year to year. It seems like what launched
2016 became a new aspect of what you would see every week. At some
point early on it became apparent to everyone that runners no longer felt it
very important to actually cross the goal line holding onto the ball. Were
you counting? There's a very good chance you were.

Then along comes Colorado. Lucky me that I just happened to stumble onto
a truly excellent head coach with a reputation for doing exactly what he did.
He turned the Buffs into a well rounded team that could beat you in many
100's of different ways and narrowly missed out on a divisional championship.
(Pac-12 South: USC, Utah, UCLA...) They had just 2 wins in all of 2015. That
right there my friends is Mike MacIntyre.

This year (2017) I believe that I've already caught a glimpse of a few new
wrinkles that may prove to have a significant impact on CFB. First of all the
movement of assistant coaches is dizzying. Secondly the movement of skilled
ball handlers from one position to another is dizzying. Both are changes that
might or could easily result in a few sharp wins that will pay anybody with the
guts to beat to his own drum and watch as the public gets hosed.

Also as I think through some of the surprises in 2016 that may mean that a lot of new things are in the works for 2017...

I am surprised at Clay Helton's work as the new Trojan coach. I was very skeptical at first but after a few solid months
that he was definitely in control of the team, I became impressed. How impressed? Well from the standpoint of USC only
somewhat, especially since their defense gave up a lot more than it should have in the Rose Bowl. This again shows us
how much further championship caliber QB play has matured at that position around the FBS.

It helps a lot to have a guy like Sam Darnold under center. A freshman no less.

Maybe its me...and I could be wrong, but Colorado looks like a Miss St who possibly could catch lighting every now and then.

USC has all the advantages of being a top contender and its possible they will be there very soon and could be a perennial power.

One thing about the PAC......and I need some advice from a local expert.....why are the Zona schools not better? They should be 10x better than what they are.....especially ASU.....who wouldnt want to go there......the women.....geezus.

My friend Conan hit on something that many might have missed.

Assistant coaches are moving at a blinding pace.

NO head coach is any better than the people he hires.

CoachingSearch.com is a great place to follow the movement of coaches.

Alabama has a strength and conditioning coach who makes well over $500,000 per season. Many, including myself think he's second only to Nick Saban regarding the success of Bama's football program.

Kirby begged him to follow him to Georgia. Other college programs have tried to get him as well a several NFL teams. As long as Saban is at Bama....he won't leave. Saban knows the value of this guy and treats him accordingly.

YouTube. Best of Alabama Strength and Conditioning coach..Scott Cochran. The dude is SPECIAL.

I have to agree with Albert with regards to Arizona and Arizona State. My interest and research into Arizona State is because Todd Graham signed and Alabama QB transfer who could have gone to any school in the Pac. Blake Barnett, a 5-Star recruit left the Alabama program after the third game this season and said "I'm done...going somewhere else." The kid has a big league arm and he picking AZ ST. kinda surprised me. Personally I thought he would go to USC but down deep I wanted him to go to Washington State.
The Pirate would have made him a passing dominator. Arizona State is a beautiful place...take a look.

Interesting Tidbit (at least to me)

One of the reasons Houston officials gave for hiring Major Applewhite over Lane Kiffin was the support Texas H.S. coaches gave to Applewhite. The indication was they would help Applewhite more with recruiting. Well, didn't seem to work out that way according to Rivals as they rated Florida Atlantic's (C-USA) class over Houston's class.

Kiffin put together a good coaching staff with some top notch recruiters. Wonder where he learned the importance of recruiting. FAU was rated the 3rd best class in the 13 team C-USA.

Does MICHIGAN take a step back during 2017?

My view is yes. The Wolverines lost a ton of talent off of last season's squad. Plus, the schedule is 'MAYBE' the most difficult in the Big Ten Conference. Michigan disappoints many of their faithful who expect a conference title this year. AIN'T going to happen!

Florida (Arlington, TX).....Cincinnati.....Air Force.....@Purdue.....Michigan State.....@Indiana.....@Penn State.....Rutgers.....Minnesota.....@Maryland.....@Wisconsin.....Ohio State.

My opinion and welcome yours..............................

Toughest Non-conference Schedules

According to ESPN, these 10 teams (among power 5 conferences) have the most difficult non-conference schedules for 2017.

1. Pittsburgh (Youngstown State, Penn State, Oklahoma State, Rice)
2. Florida (Michigan, Northern Colorado, UAB, Florida State)
3. Florida State (Alabama, La-Monroe, Delaware State, Florida)
4. Texas (Maryland, San Jose State, Southern Cal)
5. Southern Cal (Western Michigan, Texas, Notre Dame)
6. Georgia (Appalachian State, Notre Dame, Samford, Georgia Tech)
7. Georgia Tech (Tennessee, Jacksonville State, Central Florida, Georgia)
8. South Carolina (North Carolina State, Louisiana Tech, Wofford, Clemson)
9. Oklahoma State (Tulsa, South Alabama, Pittsburgh)
10. Clemson (Auburn, The Citadel, South Carolina)

**Every Power-5 conference is represented except the Big Ten. Florida State, Pittsburgh and Southern Cal made the list for the second straight year.

**Some good openers when you consider Alabama/Florida State, Florida/Michigan, Clemson/Auburn.

Former Auburn football coach eyes governor's job.

Yep, Tommy Tuberville is considering running for Alabama governor in 2018. Tuberville coached at Auburn from 1999 to 2008 before finishing his career at Texas Tech and Cincinnati. The 62 year old Arkansas native tells the Associated Press he's discussing his options with potential backers. Tuberville says he's awaiting poll results that will gauge public support. He has never held elected office but describes his life in college football as "being in politics for the last 40 years."

My take is he would have a hard time getting elected. Hell, half the state (Alabama fans) will be against him and when he left Auburn he wasn't all that popular with Auburn fans.
