I think Trump's basic premise is to allow a private company to rebuild a freeway etc. then allow the company to put a tollbooth on the road so the taxpayer doesn't pay a dime to build the road etc.

I think he can sell the idea better if he said "Hey, you can have the tollbooth on the road until you recover your initial investment and another 50% then the booth must come down."

Thoughts?

Do those toll booths really ever come down?
This would turn into private guy makes his money back...and then some %. And then the govt takes it over and keeps it going...into their pocket this time.
im guessing the payback period is 10s or 20s etc of years.

they might come down, but usually the tolls seem to be always needed for extra
improvements and/or maintenance, or worse just diverted into the state's general
fund even after the original bond issue is paid off. even with the savings by cutting
the work force by going to all electronic tolls, the tolls out here keep on rising much
faster than inflation. it's very difficult for any entity, especially a government, to
give up or reduce its revenue stream.
