The New England Patriots are not expected to trade backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, reports ESPN.com's Adam Schefter.

Garoppolo has been discussed as possible trade bait for teams that need quarterbacks for the upcoming season, such as the Cleveland Browns.

New England starter Tom Brady has said that he wants to play until his mid-40's and is coming off a season where he threw 28 touchdowns and two interceptions in 12 games after serving a four-game suspension for his role in Deflategate.

The 25-year-old Garoppolo was a second-round pick by New England in the 2014 NFL Draft and got significant playing time in Brady's absence this season.
Garoppolo played in six games in 2016 completing 68% of his passes with four touchdowns and no interceptions.

The timing doesn't match up between him being ready to play and Brady retiring. He's not resigning after next year with Brady on the team.

Teams are so desperate, some owner will come along and offer too much.

I think Adam Schefter is getting 'played' here.

You mean to tell me that the Pats wouldn't take a top 15 first round pick in exchange for Garoppolo? Very un-Patriot like.

This is to drive the asking price up IMO

Belichick 101, Basic Bill B. this: He's manufactured a Lovely Carrot ("Karat") thats now Dangling, better: placed for The Dogs to Chase.

Jimmy G. might actually be Good. Many insist to me that he is. I feel like I don't have enuff Data to say.

I suspect Jimmy G. is actually gonna be a very +EV QB but I more suspect that "Belichick 101" is afoot here, and has been all along:

Hype was created to get "Top Dollar"......as much as possible. Either Way: gonna be very very interesting.

Will be more value than a top 15 pick or they won't let him go.

But I agree with beej and ML Dog. In Bellichick's world nothing is settled other than Tom Brady will never play for another team.

And yes, I'll bet on that.

Belichick is obviously much more important to the Patriots success than Brady. Garappolo's value is not likely to go up anymore.

IF they dont trade him, then he is the heir to the patriot franchise when Brady is gone. IF not, he is damaged goods and a very mediocre QB at most.... Look at Cassell, same predicament, but PAtriots knew what they had in him, and wasnt worth keeping.

One of the smartest front offices and coaching staff in the NFL, and if they are releasing a player, it means that the player isnt worth the price another team is willing to pay.

IF I was a team owner, I Wouldnt take any Patriots players lol.... that team wouldnt exist for me when it came to trades or free agency, completely off my radar.

Exactly what a couple of local sports talk hosts were saying this evening.

Exactly. They drafted Brisset for this purpose. They are just publicly negotiating the price, telling those who want him they will have to pony up big. They may not trade him because they don't get their price, but he's available.
IMO, he's worth nowhere near what they want for him(a 1st +), but if they can get someone stupid enough to pony up, why not try?
