Colin Kaepernick is about to opt out of his contract with the 49ers. Now prepare for him to end up with,of all teams, the Seahawks.

As weird as Seattle might sound because of Kaepernick and San Francisco's history against their NFC West rival, it's the likeliest of unlikely destinations.

It would come with Kaepernick having to live with the disappointment of not being signed as a starting NFL quarterback. But it also would come with a great opportunity for the 29-year-old to get his career back on track, in the right place.

Kaepernick at one point looked like he and Russell Wilson would have many epic duels as strong-armed, mobile passers with championships on the line. It's hard to believe the 49ers-Seahawks classic NFC title game was played only three years ago, given what all has happened since.
Wilson led Seattle to a ring after the 2013 season, something Kaepernick fell just short of the season before. While Wilson and the 'Hawks have remained a conference contender, Kaepernick faded hard right along with they Niners' post-Jim Harbaugh freefall.

Before we get into that "other" thing that mightkeep Kaepernick from finding his ideal second-team scenario, the Seahawks can be a great benefit to him finding his way on the field again.

Kaepernick still has the basic skill set, with that arm and that mobility, to serve as an ideal seasoned backup to Wilson. That No. 2 role is currently held by second-year undrafted QB Trevone Boykin, an intriguing athletic talent who still is more of a developmental project than insurance.
Kaepernick could absorb many good things from Wilson by working with him in practice. Kaepernick's footwork, accuracy and mechanics all have taken big hits in his regression. Wilson, meanwhile, has pushed those aspects of his game to the top of the league.

The two used to be a lot different personalities as younger QBs. Kaepernick was Kaepernicking, and Wilson was Go Hawksing. Kaepernick has gone from his shoes to issues, while Wilson has traded bland for bold. Meeting in the middle, they could mesh well on the same depth chart.
Kaepernick also has lacked both reliable coaching and a comfortable supporting cast since Harbaugh left. Pete Carroll could provide the stability for him on the sidelines, and Darrell Bevell has the offense to maximize his abilities. The Seahawks are in desperate need of offensive line help, but they offer a diverse array of playmakers Kaepernick hasn't had since his early Niners starting QB days.

Here's the twist: Kaepernick, foiled often by the Seahawks' defense, has gained more respect from players on that unit. There was some Seattle solidarity with him during his national anthem protests, led by Jeremy Lane. Richard Sherman understood of what Kaepernick was trying to do. Michael Bennett gave his full support.

Kaepernick reportedly won't be protesting like that next season, but many potential future coaches and teammates still will feel they can't stand by what he already has done. Kaepernick doesn't need to worry about that with the Seahawks.

Kaepernick already has a great challenge in finding another team because of how he's played football of late, including some durability concerns. Combined with the controversy, the reality is that his free agency options are limited.

It will take a progressive team with a particular need, and the Seahawks best fit the profile. The rest is on Kaepernick accepting that there's a good chance he isn't perceived as anyone's No. 1 anymore.Sure, it's a demotion, but it's also a favorable — and maybe only —road to redemption and resurrection.

Kaepernick didn't seem to care that his actions and political statements would hurt his future earning power in the NFL. If he can accept taking lesser money, he shouldn't see settling for second in Seattle as a lesser move, but rather a necessary one that can turn into a blessing.
The Seahawks' job for several seasons wasto stop Kaepernick. Don't be shocked if they're soon charged with restarting him as their backup.

Is there a scheme where they could have both Kaep and Russell on the field at the same time?

Dumb article. No way in hell Seahags sign him. Yeah cause Pete Carroll needs more drama on his team. He has gotten rid of good players before for bringing less drama.

Plus Kap wants to be a starter not a career backup in Seattle.

Who wrote this stupid shit anyways?

Bills, Jets, Bears, and Cleveland really seem like his only realistic options. I'm hoping he never plays another down in the NFL.

I would rather have anyone but Kaepernick play QB guy dates a broad and converts to islam and starts growing a fro and protesting the Anthem and now will stand for it? Mental midget there. Harbaugh had to treat him like a china set on rolling skates on a sheet of ice for him to be effective. He leaves and pffft Kapernick turns into a pumpkin.

Kap is no good. When you lose your job to "Gabbert" that says everything.

That had to do with Kap's contract more than anything. Once his contract was reworked, he became the starter.

When an absolute Bum and proven failure like Josh McCown gets the contract he just got, I don't care if Kaep, stands, sits, or takes out his Dick when they play the anthem, he should be signed by someone in the NFL. Same with Cutler. And RG3.

In theory, it may have made more sense for Josh McCown to serve as the backup to Dak Prescott in Dallas instead of becoming the Week One starter on a weak roster that is too deep into a rebuild for a 37-year-old quarterback to realize any sigificant benefits. But theory doesn’t further feather the nest.
McCown will make at least $6 million guaranteed in 2017 with the Jets, an amount that is surely much larger than what the Cowboys would have paid. (It also matches the amount the Browns were due to pay McCown this year.) McCown also can make an extra $2 million based on playing time, and another $5 million based on team accomplishments.
PFT confirmed that McCown will make $125,000 for each game in which he takes more than 50 percent of the snaps. He can also make an extra $2 million if the Jets qualify for the playoffs, another $1.5 million if the Jets make it to Super Bowl LII, and another $1.5 million if they win it. (He has 65-percent cumulative playing-time triggers that apply to each of the postseason incentives.)
In other words, McCown can make another $2 million based on playing time.
It’s still a great deal for McCown, who instantly ocuppies the top spot of the depth chart, and who can add $125,000 for each game that he holds that spot.
In contrast, the Cowboys are paying Kellen Moore $775,000 for the full season.
It’s also a pretty good deal for the Jets, given that they paid twice as much last year for a starter who did half of what he did the prior year. And it means that, barring a serious injury to McCown during the offseason program or trianing camp, they won’t be pursuing Jay Cutler, Colin Kaepernick, or any other veteran quarterback who would cost more than the league minimum.

Kaepernick has been blackballed by the nfl owners. I wouldn't be surprised yo see him at cfl camps soon

How can anyone confidently say he is being blackballed less than two weeks into free agency? Is Jay Cutler being blackballed? RG3? Adrian Peterson? Zach Brown is good and he is still unsigned. If he's not on a roster Aug 1 I could understand the "blackballed" comments but not in March.

For the record, Josh McCown basically got a one year deal at Chase Daniel money.

Jim Harbaugh tells NFL teams Colin Kaepernick can be great

The coach who went to a Super Bowl with Colin Kaepernick thinks another team could get to the Super Bowl with Kaepernick, if he gets the chance.
Jim Harbaugh said on PFT Live that Kaepernick, whom he coached in San Francisco, still has all the tools he displayed when he took the league by storm in his first year as a starter. Harbaugh said NFL teams have reached out to ask his opinion of Kaepernick, and Harbaugh tells them they should sign him.
“I’ll tell you the same thing I tell them: I think he’s an outstanding player and I think he’s a great competitor who has proven it in games and has the ability to be not only an NFL starter but a great NFL player,” Harbaugh said.
Harbaugh said he thinks NFL teams aren’t as patient as they need to be in developing quarterbacks, and he thinks a smart team will take the time to work with Kaepernick to make the most of his physical tools. That team, Harbaugh believes, will win multiple Super Bowls.
“He’ll have a great career and be a great quarterback, win championships,” Harbaugh said.
Now the question is whether any team will give Kaepernick that chance.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------IMO, Kaep needs a guy to pump him back up, like Harbaugh is, and did. His confidence is shot, but the ability is still there if someone can unlock it.

Kap could be a great QB again but he is not the same person as then.

He has become involved with a militant Muslim convert woman who has brainwashed him and changed his whole value system and who he is as a person.

He will never be great again because of this. I really don't see many teams wanting this headache on their team if he's not going to be the stud he was.

He certainly wasn't a problem or headache in the 49er locker room. Quite the opposite:

[h=1]Colin Kaepernick wins prestigious award voted on by teammates[/h]Posted by Darin Gantt on December 30, 2016, 4:43 PM EDT

If anyone thought 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick was a distraction in the locker room because of his national anthem protests this year, his teammates did not agree.
Via Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com, Kaepernick was given the Len Eshmont Award, which is the most prestigious team honor which is voted upon by players.
The award is given annually to the player who embodies Eshmont’s “inspirational and courageous play.” Previous winners include Hall of Famers such as Jerry Rice, Joe Montana, Steve Young, and Ronnie Lott all the way to early players such as Y.A. Tittle, Joe Perry, Bob St. Clair, and Leo Nomellini.
Kaepernick has been sitting and then kneeling through the national anthem all season to protest racial inequality.
“I think what Kap did will be talked about for years to come – an NFL player using his platform for what he wanted to use it for,” 49ers safety Antoine Bethea said.
And while plenty of people had a problem with it, including our President-elect.
