The Wolverines caught fire and won 4 games in 4 days to take home the title in the Big Ten Tournament. I love teams that finish the regular season strong and go on a run in their conference tournament. This Michigan team finally started playing up to their potential down the stretch and are 10-2 over their last 12 games. Oklahoma State went on an amazing 10-1 run after starting out 0-6 in Big 12 play, but enter the tournament having lost 3 straight. I know the losing streak has come against Iowa State (twice) and Kansas, but there's just not the same confidence as they had a couple weeks ago. I look for the Wolverines to keep it going behind senior guard Derrick Walton Jr, who was sensational in the final two games of the Big Ten Tournament. Let's also not overlook the fact that Oklahoma State plays little to no defense (allow 78.0 ppg) and that's a recipe for failure in the big dance. Give me Michigan -2!

The Blue Devils enter the tourney as a 2 seed and yet they have the best odds to win it all. Duke is far more superior than Troy in this spot. Troy entered their conference tourney a 6 seed and +1000 to win it.

While they did, this team certainly doesn't have any sort of speed or physicality to keep up with the Blue Devils. Duke has far too many shooters and much more of an inside presence that is going to really have the Trojans on their heels all night long.

Some trends to note. Blue Devils are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 NCAA Tournament games as a favorite. Blue Devils are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 neutral site games as a favorite.

Lay the big point spread here.

There is no reason Duke shouldn't blow this Troy team out.

No surprise that Rhode Island is now favored here. They are the better team and most are picking up on that. This reminds me a lot of yesterday's game with Mid Tenn St being favored over Minnesota. Many are forgetting that this RI team was a pre season TOP 25 team. They gave Duke all they could handle before suffering key injuries. Creighton without Watson is in a total mismatch here.

Rhode Island comes in winning 8 of 10 while Creighton just 5-5 their last 10. Creighton just 1-5 ATS L6 games vs teams with a winning record. Rhode Island 6-1 ATS L7 games following a SU win

Riding a hot team here in Rhode Island, winners of 8 in a row (12-2 last 14) and won the A-10 Tourney who has 3 teams in the big dance. Creighton problematic outside of 2 players to score, and without Watson they are half the team they were first half of the season. Struggled to win the Big East Tourney badly against mighty Nova and got smacked around, faded in all 3 games in the first half in that tourney and always dug a hole, and did so against Nova and it cost them.

Small upset here in many eyes, not mine, Rhode Island well coached and can put up points. Creighton just 7-8 SU in last 15 games. Creighton has issues closing out games, they have all year. RI has issues at free throw line at 63% but I still lean with them here in a live dog scenario

Friday CBB Bonus Play. My selection is on Troy plus the points over Duke at 7:20 pm et on Friday.

I'll grab the points with the Trojans as they face the difficult task of facing the Duke Blue Devils on Friday evening.

Duke heads into this tournament on a serious roll after taking the ACC Tourney title in a spirited win over rival North Carolina last weekend. But the fact is, the Blue Devils haven't been a great bet this season, going 15-18-1 ATS.

By contrast, Troy enters the tourney on a 5-1 ATS run, having gone an impessive 20-12 ATS this season.

It's not as if we're asking the Trojans to win this game. I simply believe they'll be able to stay competitive for 40 minutes. This is a squad that has shown the ability to win in a track meet, or in a defensive struggle. They won't let the Blue Devils off the hook easy on Friday. Take Troy (8*).

I really like the value here with the Wildcats as a dog against the Bearcats. A don't think Kansas State is at a disadvantage here having played just two days ago in the play-in game. In fact, I think it works to their advantage. The Wildcats put on an offensive display in their 95-88 win over Wake Forest, shooting a ridiculous 66% from the field. They are going to be a confident bunch and will need it against a stingy Cincinnati defense. The Bearcats are a quality team, but I think they get a little too much love because of how they dominate the American Athletic Conference. Outside of SMU the rest of that league is a joke and even the Mustangs aren't as good as people think.

I just don't trust Cincinnati's offense in this setting, as the Bearcats only averaged 64.2 ppg away from home on the season. Adding to this is the fact that Cincinnati is 0-7 ATS in their last 7 neutral site games as a favorite of 6 points or less and 5-12 ATS in their last 17 when playing against a team with a winning record. Wildcats on the other hand are 10-3 ATS in their last 13 road games against teams who are outscoring opponents by 4+ points/game. Take Kansas State!

Michigan is a great story especially after what happened last week to them. Thankfully everyone was ok!! They really used that incident as a wave of momentum and playing in consecutive days actually helped them in that instance. Oklahoma St is a team that really turned it on the 2nd half of the season. They have the guards here with Evans to off set Walton. While Michigan was a great story last week I believe that has worn off and they are catching a team that is just as good. Take the points!

Take South Carolina – Marquette UNDER (#819-820)

South Carolina doesn’t play at a snail’s pace, but they are truly an elite defensive team and just as truly an ugly offensive team. So while this total makes sense given the Gamecocks pace of play, it looks a good notch or two too high for this bettor due to the way the play, not their pace of play. To put this total in perspective, the Gamecocks last game in the SEC tourney against Alabama, was totaled at 122.5 and it stayed under with room to spare.

When we look at the Gamecocks results from non-conference play against opponents who were not familiar with their intense, physical style, we saw totals that were routinely priced waaaaaaay too high. They were lined at 156.5 against Monmouth, a game that finished with 120 points in regulation. Their game against Michigan was totaled at 136.5, finishing with 107 points. Against Syracuse on a neutral floor at Madison Square Garden, it was another game that stayed 20+ points Under. Similar ‘class’ games Seton Hall on a neutral floor, Clemson and Memphis were all low scoring games that stayed Under the total.

The numbers show it clearly, and they also show a matchup problem for Marquette. The Golden Eagles are a one trick pony – they shoot three pointers better than any other team in the country, averaging 10.5 makes per game on 43% shooting from downtown. Marcus Howard, Andrew Rowsey, Katin Reinhardt and Sam Hauser are all ‘Deadeye Dicks’ from long range.

But South Carolina’s perimeter defense is as good as it gets, a team ranked #3 nationally in defensive efficiency and #5 in the nation against opposing three point shooters This is not a game where we can expect Marquette to light up the scoreboard from long range. And when the Eagles aren’t draining 3’s in bunches, they’re not scoring in the 80’s and 90’s; a team that didn’t even average 70 points per game in their last four losses; all games where those three point shots didn’t fall at quite the same rate

South Carolina’s offense is ugly. They finished the season ranked #315 in effective field goal percentage on offense, ranked #318 on two point shot attempts and #245 on three pointers. Sindarius Thornwell is a scorer, averaging 21 points per game on 44% shooting. The rest of the team? Not a strong shooter to be found, from inside or outside the arc. Expect a brick fest in Greenville on Friday Night! Take the Under.

They'll be ready for this clash. NMST played in the NIT last year, so they'll relish this opportunity on the big stage.
