  • Supervisors Hillary Ronen and Aaron Peskin will introduce the ban on Tuesday
  • They will propose the ban in order to 'fight' for the values they 'hold most dear'
  • The proposed bill would ban companies that apply to work on the wall during the bidding period, regardless of whether they actually get a contract
  • Some 640 firms have put their names forward to participate in the wall project

Companies that help to build President Trump's controversial border wall could be banned from doing business with San Francisco.
Local left-wing politicians will introduce the legislation on Tuesday, in a bill similar to several proposals cropping up around the country.
Supervisor Hillary Ronen and Supervisor Aaron Peskin have proposed the ban in order to 'fight' for the values they 'hold most dear'.

The bill would ban companies that apply to work on the wall during the bidding period, regardless of whether they actually get a contract.
'It is time to move beyond symbolism and use the power we have as a city to fight for the values we hold most dear,' said Supervisor Ronen, the San Francisco Examiner reported.
'What we are saying is that we are not going to spend billions of dollars and line the pockets of businesses that engage in work that goes against the values that we hold most dear,' she said.

The bill is one of several similar proposals around the country, with the Bay Area leading the way.
Last week the Berkeley City Council passed a resolution recommending the city divest from any company involved in the project.
The Oakland City Council is set to vote on the proposed ban on Tuesday.
Assemblyman Phil Ting - who called the wall a 'Wall of Shame' - introduced a bill on Monday that would require California's pension funds to divest from companies involved in building the wall.

Assembly Bill 946 - the 'Resist the Wall' Act - was co-authored by Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez Fletcher, D-San Diego, and Assemblymen Phil Ting, D-San Francisco, and Eduardo Garcia, D-Coachella.
'The state's contracting and investment practices should reflect the values of our state,' Gonzalez Fletcher told 10News.
'It's clear the people of California don't want to invest in the hateful values that the Trump wall represents.'
Garcia added: 'It is counterproductive to invest in projects that will not serve the best interest of all Californians.'
Ronen and Peskin's ban means companies will have to choose between a lucrative contract with the wall - which it's estimated will cost $21billion to construct - and losing out on potential contracts with San Francisco.
Hensel Phelps Construction Co. in Oakland has expressed interest in helping build the wall, but recently signed a $1.1 billion contract to help build a new terminal at San Francisco International Airport.
Similarly Tutor Perini Corp. of Sylmar has sought to be a part of the project but has a $860 million contract to help build the Central Subway.
In New York Assemblywoman Nily Rozic introduced a similar ban, while New York City Public Advocate Letitia James is pushing a proposal, although it wouldn't be an outright ban.

He has repeatedly said Mexico will pay for it, something the Mexican government has flatly said it will not do.
Parts of the border are already divided by high fences, and a huge part of the boundary runs along the Rio Grande river.
Some 640 firms, mostly from the United States, have put their names forward to participate in the design and construction of the wall, the US government's website for business opportunities shows.
Companies based in Spain, Germany, South Africa, Britain, Ireland, Puerto Rico and Canada are among others on the list.
Texas-based Commercial Metals Co. is one of the firms who has registered an interest in the project.
'I'm not here to discuss the political worthiness of that process,' said Mike Hutzler, the firm's account manager.
'We just have to pay attention to what's going on and be there to help supply good-quality, American-based material for that project.'
Ecovelocity is the only one registered in Mexico, possibly a sign of the depth of feeling against the barrier south of the border, where there has been a surge in patriotism triggered by Trump's repeated swipes at the country.
Mexico's Cemex, one of the world's largest cement producers, has said it is open to providing quotes to supply the raw materials for the border wall. Competitor Grupo Cementos de Chihuahua has also signaled a readiness to work on the project.
Both companies have a strong presence in the United States.

So these two communists want to control a free market and punish companies trying to make money and employ people.

HAHAHA you can't make this crap up with these idiots! Of course in CA it's the norm...

So these two idiots want to tell a private company on what work they should do and not do.
Are these two idiots going to pay the employees that don't work?

San Francisco should be more concerned with pricing the lifelong residents out of the city and destroying its soul
