Cris Cyborg wants a UFC title and she hopes to get her shot by the end of July.
Universally recognized as the best women’s featherweight fighter on the planet, Cyborg announced on Friday that she’s vacating her Inivcta FC title so she can pursue UFC gold later this year with a matchup against current champ Germaine de Randamie.
In a video message, Cyborg called out the new UFC champ while asking for a fight at the upcoming UFC 214 show scheduled to take place in Anaheim, Calif. on July 29.
Of course, Cyborg was also shining a UFC title while clearly taking a shot at de Randamie’s legitimacy as the champion at 145 pounds after she defeated Holly Holm in a narrow decision in February.
“After her victory, [Germaine de Randamie] at 145 pounds, the UFC determined that she will be the No. 1 contender for my title belt,” Cyborg said. “I’m healthy now and I’m strong and I really want to show my fans why I’m still 10 years undefeated at 145 pounds. After my two fights in Brazil, I would like to fight in the U.S.A. for my fans from here that could not go to Brazil to watch the fight and enjoy the time. July 29, UFC will be in south California and I would like to fight in my backyard in America in Anaheim, California.
“So Germaine, I hope your hand’s healthy enough to accept my challenge.”

De Randamie stated following her win at UFC 208 that she may be required to undergo hand surgery to repair damage suffered prior to her fight with Holm, but she’s made no announcement when she’ll be ready to return to action.
Cyborg clearly believes she’s the only choice for de Randamie’s title defense and given her record it’s tough to deny that she’s the true, legitimate No. 1 contender for the title.
Cyborg also gave thanks to Invicta FC for giving her a home when the UFC still didn’t have a 145-pound division before she arrived in the promotion and quickly became the first featherweight champion.
“I’m vacating my belt at 145 pounds in Invicta FC. This decision [does not] come too easy. In 2013, [Invicta FC president] Shannon Knapp invite me to support her league of all women, Invicta FC and I’m already No. 1 in the world and I had wins over Gina Carano and Marloes Coenen. When I signed with Invicta, I wanted to help for we can prove the women can be the real fighters and they can play combat sports. Like me, like Carla Esparza, Claudia Gadelha, Amanda Nunes and all the women in the cage now just prove it. Invicta has the best women’s fighters in the world,” Cyborg stated.
“I want to say thank you for Shannon Knapp for believing in all of the women. If you don’t believe in us, probably we’d never be in the UFC one day.”
Now that Cyborg has vacated her Invicta FC title, she will now prepare for her eventual title shot in the UFC as she looks to claim yet another championship to add to her already impressive career resume.
