... a key player on those teams will have two sissy touch fouls within 2 minutes.
Xavier's Jones was a key big man, some muscle down low was needed to deal with the big Polish goon and Collins. Xavier's weakness was front line and losing Jones that early killed them. They had to double team down low on D, then the Zaga kick outs to the guards for uncontested threes were easy. Sure Jones is no star but in this spot he was critical.
And Kansas lost Jackson, one of the top 3 or 4 best players in the USA. That unfortunately took Kansas out of the aggressive style they needed to play against Oregon. He is an outstanding defender, not just a scorer.
In all of sports, the worst rule is the 5 foul rule in NCAA hoops.
When a fruit little ref wants to establish his control and calls some touch fouls early in the game on a key player, it takes the player out for (usually) the whole first half. Sure if they put him back in he plays but is tentative and cannot be himself and play aggressively. In hoops, you have a few key players that cannot be lost.
It is like taking the starting pitcher out for a couple, 3 innings.
Solutions? I dunno, maybe go to a system where after 5th foul the other team shoots 2 FT and gets the ball, and the player is out after the 6th. But this is bullshit. YES, it has helped me, of course.
