Teams are now apparently scared by Colin Kaepernick because he's vegan

We've heard pretty much every excuse as to why Colin Kaepernick is still a free agent. The speculation began with his politics, then it was his poor football play, then it was his demands and now it's reportedly his diet.

Matt Maiocco @MaioccoNBCS At season’s end, Colin Kaepernick stated he was fully committed to football. But some teams are unconvinced and wonder about his vegan diet.

The quarterback changed his diet to vegan after dating television star Nessa Diab. She revealed last offseason they had gone vegan together as a couple, and the quarterback later admitted himself he had switched to the diet.

Most storylines on Kaepernick last season dealt with his refusal to stand for the anthem, but there was actually a bit of commotion regarding him becoming vegan. He had a noticeable weight loss because protein (most commonly ingested through meats and dairy products) is crucial to maintaining muscle mass.

This was allbeforethe season really began though, and Kaepernick played just fine in 2016-17 to the point where teams shouldn't really be concerned about his diet. Other NFL players have gone vegan, including Tony Gonzalez and Arian Foster, and were able to continue playing.

Tom Brady — you may have heard of him —has an almost-vegan diet, as revealed by Bleacher Report earlier this year. He is vegan for almost the entire year, but adds in lean meats like chicken during the winter months as a way to maintain muscle mass.

There are probably several reasons why Kaepernick remains a free agent, but his diet is probably the least likely one.

The NFL is like the Gestapo. They will get all your dirty secrets out. Veganism won't be in the plus column when teams go to evaluate.

At his peak, he was pretty darn good. Niners super bowl run he looked unstoppable in the playoffs. It was like watching Vick in Madden. But his recent play hasn't been anything too desirable.

He isn't getting signed because the teams that run offenses best suited to his skill set aren't in need of a starting qb. When he was using his legs more he was a very good qb but the last few seasons in SF surrounded by CFL talent on OL and skill positions has done nothing to help him develop as a qb.

If he doesn't find a job on some team as a backup it will be because either he is unrealistic in desired salary or teams not wanting to have their backup qb being a news story. He belongs on an NFL roster though as a qb. If Gabbert, Bortles, Fitzpatrick, Hoyer etc...can be employed and not Kap, something stinks.

Best vegan athletes that I know of are the Diaz bros

Don't need as much muscle mass in lower-middleweight fighting as you do in football though.

I thought the lack of interest was due to his lack of talent rather than politics or diet.
