US Hockey phenom from Arizona (yes Arizona) Austin Matthews is in that conversation. He's a shoo in for Rookie of the year, and probably a close second to Crosby for MVP. If you go by most valuable to their team, I'm giving it to Matthews. Toronto went from last, to a play off team in one year, which is rare in Hockey. Crosby's rookie year Penguins were last again.

Anyone think Austin has a shot at MVP?

The difference is Oilers sucked Mcdavid's first year. He's got experience and more top draft picks playing with him.

and the nominees are.......(or rather mine..:)..)............

1. Brad Marchaud - Boston

having a career year, finishing strong .....leading his team into the playoffs. Kinda guy you'd love to have on your team, but hate the fucker if opposing. The guy is ALL heart. He has supplanted Brent Burns who was making a legit run for MVP until fallign off the map, as have the Sharks

2. Sidney Crosby- Pittsburgh

possibly could have won the scoring title if hadn't missed a few games. Leads the league with 43 goals.....the consummate Captain.

3. Connor McDavid- Edmonton Oilers
chap given the 'C' to start the year--The Oilers are headed to the playoffs. Art Ross is in the bag.......

Mathews
Nylander
