Cut down on sugar
Take melatonin
Turn off your devices for the last half hour before bed - studies show the light fucks with your brain's sleep signals, even from your phone. Use this time to unwind, meditate, or read.
Go to bed at the same time every night
No TV in bed, train your body that bed is for sleep

Re: Ambien, I would take great care to not get in the habit of taking something to get to sleep.

Re: Ambien, I would take great care to not get in the habit of taking something to get to sleep.
This is it for me. Before I was prescribed Xanax, I would wake up to take a leak and then I would have a hard time going back to sleep, worrying about everything from my kids to work. The Xanax keeps my mind from racing so if I wake up I go right back to sleep. Ask your doc, I take 1 mg but am 6'6" and 230, you might get a lesser dosage. I have to go back every 6 months but he gives me 2 90 day scripts. Generic (Alprazolam) costs me $6 for a 90 day supply.
Works well for me, be careful with the Ambien, too many sleep walking stories out there
My dad had real problems with ambien. Doing stuff he didnt remeber alot and had a bad addiction to it. Stuff makes me sleep for 5 hours tops. I use tylenol pm, motrin pm, and benydryl. Allergy season so I have been taking benedryl ever night and it knocks me out. I try not to ever take the same stuff back to back so they all will work
