Francesco Totti, <small style="font-size: 11.9px;">Ufficiale OMRI</small>,[SUP][4][/SUP] (<small style="font-size: 11.9px;">Italian pronunciation: </small>[franˈtʃesko ˈtɔtti]; born 27 September 1976) is an Italian former professional footballer who played for Roma. He played primarily as an attacking midfielder or second striker, but could also play as a lone striker or winger.
Totti spent his entire career at Roma, winning a Serie A title, two Coppa Italia titles, and two Supercoppa Italiana titles; he is the top goalscorer and the most capped player in the club's history. Totti also holds the record for the youngest club captain in the history of Serie A. Often referred to as Il Bimbo de Oro (The Golden Boy), Il Re di Roma (The King of Rome), Er Pupone (The Big Baby), and Il Gladiatore (The Gladiator) by the Italian sports media, Totti is the second-highest scorer of all time in Italian league history with 250 goals; he also holds the record for the most goals scored in Serie A while playing for a single club.
A creative offensive playmaker renowned for his vision, technique, and goalscoring ability, Totti is considered to be one of the greatest Italian players of all time,[SUP][5][/SUP][SUP][6][/SUP][SUP][7][/SUP][SUP][8][/SUP][SUP][9][/SUP][SUP][10][/SUP] one of the most talented players of his generation,[SUP][11][/SUP][SUP][12][/SUP][SUP][13][/SUP] and Roma's greatest ever player.[SUP][14][/SUP] He won a record eleven Oscar del calcio awards from the Italian Footballers' Association: five Serie A Italian Footballer of the Year awards, two Serie A Footballer of the Year awards, two Serie A Goal of the Year awards, one Serie A Goalscorer of the Year award, and one Serie A Young Footballer of the Year award. Totti is the fifth-highest scoring Italian in all competitions, with 316 goals.[SUP][15][/SUP]
A 2006 FIFA World Cup winner and UEFA Euro 2000 finalist with Italy, Totti was selected in the All-Star team for both tournaments; he also represented his country at the 2002 World Cup and Euro 2004. He also won several individual awards, notably the 2007 European Golden Shoe and the Golden Foot. In 2004, he was named in the FIFA 100, a list of the world's greatest living players as selected by Pelé, as part of FIFA's centenary celebrations.[SUP][16][/SUP] In 2011, Totti was recognised by IFFHS as the most popular footballer in Europe.[SUP][17][/SUP] In November 2014, Totti extended his record as the oldest goalscorer in UEFA Champions League history, aged 38 years and 59 days.

I remember when he was called for flopping in Korea, when he was literally drilled. I think it was his 2nd yellow card and Italy had to play short handed and lost. If he receives a penalty kick like he should have, they probably advance

I'm going off of long term memory here, so did kill me if I got something wrong :)

I think that's when the Italian coach went back to the glass that separated him from the FIFA President and started pounding on the glass in disgust

Yes Willie I remember that game like it was yesterday. The referee later admitted he was paid to help the Koreans. Totti got a yellow after "elbowing" a Korean when fighting for a lob. Later on he was tackled by 3 koreans in the penalty box and sent off. Most disgusted I have ever been watching a soccer game. Fuckin gooks stole like 3 or 4 matches to advance to semis.

Tainted world cup.

Francesco Totti along with Del Piero (Juventus) and Maldini (Milan), is the last one of the LOYAL greats, players who were offered millions to jump ship but stayed loyal to their home team. Never wore another jersey.

I believe that referee is in prison now for attempting to smuggle six kilos of heroin into JFK.

went back and read about the 2002 World Cup and the Korean fix(es)

When Italy was robbed and complained bitterly, Spain was calling them sore losers. Then it happened to them in the very next game, and they complained and they started saying "the Italians were right"

The Referee was Byron Moreno

Rewatching this I gotta admit I tear up. The integrity and loyalty shown by Francesco during his 28 year long career wearing the same jersey is unique, this is a love story.

Been an AS Roma fan for almost 20 years. I feared this day would come.

At the end of a game between Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Quito and Barcelona Sporting Club, he called for six minutes of added time, which seemed excessive. The added time then stretched to nearly 13 minutes during which the Quito team scored two goals. That got him suspended.

He issued three red cards, all harsh decisions, in one game. He then accepted invitations to visit Italy and appeared on satiric TV shows that mocked him. But he got paid well for his appearances.

Goodness gracious. Pretty solid lawyer to only get 26 months for trying to smuggle 6 kilos of heroine.

Last sunday in Rome, Italy, to be precise!

Squad captain Francesco Totti retires after 28 years playing in the same team for no other reason than love (was offered juicy contracts by Juventus and Real Madrid and the opportunity to win more titles)... retires as the 2nd player with most goals in Italy soccer league history.

I'm from the government and I'm here to help
