Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby tried to brush off the halitosis high jinks after being accused by Nashville Predators standout/provocateur P.K. Subban of insulting Subban’s breath during a face-to-face meeting in a feisty Game 3. But Crosby is not amused.
“Yeah, he made that up. I didn’t say that,” Crosby said Sunday. “He likes the attention and things like that, so, I mean, if he wants to make stuff up … what can i do?
“He told me my breath smelled, but I don’t know,” Subban said during a televised postgame interview. “I used Listerine before the game, so I don’t know what he’s talking about.”

Subban clearly loves the scent of gamesmanship. He ignited Breathgate — four out of five dentists would recommend not calling this a -gate — with his biting comments after the Predators scored five straight goals in a 5-1 rout of the Pens, setting up a potential series-tying Game 4 on Monday night in Nashville.
