Joe Maddon is high

You bat a guy hitting 160 - a TTO guy who hasn't had a single in 64 plate appearances (since May 17th) - in the leadoff spot. An experiment that has proven awful for the team AND for Schwarber's development. Joe moved him down in the order and he starts having success on this homestand - and today you move him right back to leadoff.

Then you follow him with your 2 real hitters, the only guys who can actually get on base.

So pitchers just pitch around them. Because who do you have looming in the cleanup spot to knock them in? Ben fucking Zobrist. A guy who is hitting 115 in June with ZERO rbi. Fucking embarrassment, I know Zo is a solid contributor but he's 36 and should be relegated to mentor/role player. Joe's stubbornness hitting him cleanup is killing every rally Bryzzo gets going.

Then yesterday he calls up this Frankoff jagoff, some shyte journeyman. And instead of letting him find some kind of footing at the major league level in a low leverage situation, he brings him in in a tie game to face Charlie fucking Blackmon. Boom, 2 run tater, game over.

Yeah this kid has been in the minors 7 years across 13 teams. He finally started having some success STARTING in aaa Iowa, then you bring him in and put him in your PEN, give him ONE chance against the hottest hitter in baseball, and then send him back down.

I've been as big of a Joe defender as anyone. He has done some amazing things to the organization, including the creating a winning culture in the clubhouse.

But his strategies...let's just say I've been questioning them since the WS.

Fowler was so underrated for that team.
Shwarb will never be a good lead off hitter it's just dumb.
And for that matter Bryant is being wasted at 2.
Only person in the entire lineup that is in the right spot is riz.

Yea madden does some dumb things but got himself a 5 stay out of jail card that won't expire till at least 2020.

I am on the record regarding his managing. There was a thread a month or so ago about the best managers in baseball. Joe Maddon's name was all over the place. I cant say I watch a ton of baseball....but I sure as hell know when a manager does a poor job. I of course watched the Cubs win the world series and I was rooting for them to win. At the time though....I spent the entire series questioning his managing. I think the Cubs won the world series last year on talent and despite his managing....not because of his managing. I was definitely not impressed with his managing.

Based on the comments in the thread.....he has not changed.

It almost seems like he wants to manage and be a key part of every game. Like he is going to out smart his opponent.

Wouldn't be my choice for a manager.

This is not the first (or second or third) time you've made a comment to this effect. I've seen others say it too.

I must've missed the presser where Joe proclaimed himself a genius. Why do you insist on painting this picture that he thinks so highly of his own intelligence? Is it cause he drinks wine and wears thick glasses? Cause he is soft-spoken?

If you ever listen to the words that come out of his mouth, he is a very down-to-earth and humble guy. So I think you and others are off base with this perception that Joe thinks he is smarter than everyone else.

During the season it is very much the opposite. He is very hands-off during games. In fact my main complaint is his refusal to make adjustments during the season. He will keep running Schwarber out there at leadoff and Zobrist at cleanup for months even though my dog can tell it's not working. He has this Zen attitude that it'll all work itself out over 162. Maybe he's right (track record proves I should just shut up and trust him).

Now, during the playoffs, yeah, he choked. Specifically the world series. He clearly overmanaged the pitching staff in-game, pulling starters way too early. I think he got roped into this mindset by the Indians (and what loomed in their bullpen) that the game was 5 innings long. But the Cubs didn't have a trio of unhittable guys out there to shorten the game. So he just raced to Chapman and ended up drastically overusing him. Even the Dodgers to an extent got him going down that path by racing to Jansen.

Yes the Cubs won that ws with talent, in spite off Maddon's moves. He absolutely would have been run out of town if the cubs hadn't pulled out game 7. It seemed he was doing everything he could to blow it.

The Los Angeles Angels are making a coaching change, announcing Tuesday that they have fired manager Joe Maddon after 12 straight losses.

Phil Nevin will take over as interim manager.

Though ESPN's Buster Olney reported earlier Tuesday that the Angels had discussed making a managerial change, the final decision came as a surprise to Maddon.

Joe Maddon was probably the main guy who started what we're seeing as a regular thing these days in teams pulling starting pitchers after only a few innings when they are rolling along
