College sports (CFB and CBB) have become very gentrified over the last 5-6 years. You just need so much structure and training to get to the top level nowadays that more and more kids come from households of former athletes/middle class households or they get an AAU daddy at like 12 years old because the economic benefits are so great.
Very few natural talents with horrible upbringings/living environments/family structure get through anymore. I mean it still happens, but less and less.
