WNBA Betting Recap - 6/26-7/2

League Betting Notes (Monday, June 26 through Sunday, July 2)

-- Favorites went 9-3 straight up (SU)
-- Favorites went 9-3 against the spread (ATS)
-- Home/road teams posted a 6-6 SU record
-- Home/road teams posted a 6-6 ATS record
-- The 'over/under' went 6-6

Team Betting Notes

-- Atlanta (6-7) ended a three-game skid Sunday against New York (7-7), winning 81-72 at home despite entering as a 4 1/2-point underdog. It was a rare cover for the Dream, as they're still just 2-7 ATS over their past nine outings. The 'under' has now connected in three of the past four four Atlanta and 8-3 over the past 11 outings.

-- The Liberty have dropped a season-high three in a row following their road loss in the ATL. After an impressive 4-0 SU/ATS streak from June 2-11, the Liberty are 1-4 SU/ATS over the past five outings.

-- Chicago (3-12) has dropped three in a row, and they really have bottomed out. They provided San Antonio (1-14) with their first victory of the season. For the Sky, they're 0-3 SU/ATS while losing by an average of 16.0 points per game during the span.

-- The Stars have been inching closer to a win lately, before finally breaking through against Chicago. While the first win came Friday, they're an impressive 3-1 ATS over the past four outings.

-- Connecticut (8-7) had a very successful week, topping the Seattle (7-8) and Indiana (7-8) after a loss to Los Angeles (12-3). The Sun are now an impressive 9-2 ATS over their past 11, and 11-3 ATS over their past 14. The 'over' is also a frequent result for Connecticut lately, going 8-1 over their past nine outings.

-- Dallas (8-9) was tripped up at home Saturday by the visiting Storm, snapping a four-game winning streak. The 'under' connected, however, and is now 4-1 over the past four for the Wings.

-- The Fever have been solid, yet unspectacular so far this season. They haven't won or lost more than two games in a row at any point so far. The same goes for their work against the spread. Next up for Indiana is a date with Atlanta, a team they polished off 85-74 back on June 15.

-- The Sparks continue to roll right along. They took care of Washington (10-6) by a 76-69 score, narrowly covering a 6 1/2-point number on Sunday. L.A. has posted a season-high nine game winning streak and they're a perfect 4-0 ATS over the past four outings. Total bettors are also a fan of the Sparks, as the 'under' is now an impressive 5-1 over their past six outings.

-- Minnesota (12-1) picked up a 91-83 win in Phoenix (7-6) in another high-scoring affair. The 'over' has cashed in four in a row for the Lynx, and six of the past seven overall.

-- The Mercury have alternated wins and losses over the past eight outings. They're not having much luck against the number, however, going 1-4 ATS over the past five outings.

GAME: Toronto Blue Jays (38-45) at New York Yankees (44-38)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, July 05 - 1:05 PM EST
WHERE: Yankee Stadium, Bronx, New York
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Mired in disastrous stretches, the Toronto Blue Jays and New York Yankees will look for any shred of sustained momentum on Wednesday afternoon when the American League East rivals play the rubber match of their three-game series in the Bronx. Toronto snapped a five-game skid with just its third win in 12 outings in Tuesday afternoon's 4-1 triumph, sending New York to its 15th loss in 21 games.

Jose Bautista had an RBI single to highlight a three-hit performance and improved to 17-for-49 with seven runs scored in the last 12 games. While Bautista is heating up, teammate Josh Donaldson couldn't much be colder as the former AL MVP is 1-for-26 in his last eight contests and 2-for-21 versus Wednesday starter Michael Pineda. With the Home Run Derby on the horizon, Aaron Judge flexed his muscles with his majors-best 28th blast to give him five hits and three runs scored in his last three games. The 6-foot-7 Judge, who has reached base safely in 35 straight starts, is 13-for-34 with five homers, 12 RBIs and 12 runs scored versus Toronto this season.

TV: 1:05 p.m. ET, MLB Network, Sportsnet (Toronto), YES (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Blue Jays RH Marco Estrada (4-6, 4.86 ERA) vs. Yankees RH Michael Pineda (8-4, 4.05)

Estrada is 0-4 with a 9.11 ERA and 1.55 WHIP in his last six games after allowing two runs on as many hits in 4 1/3 innings of a no-decision versus Boston on Friday. The 33-year-old permitted a career-high seven walks against the Red Sox and has issued 15 free passes in his last three outings. Estrada was blitzed for seven runs on nine hits - including two homers - in 3 2/3 innings in a 12-2 setback to the Yankees on June 1.

Pineda recorded his first win in over three weeks on Friday after yielding two unearned runs on seven hits in six innings of a 13-4 rout at Houston. The 28-year-old Dominican kept the ball in the park after surrendering three homers in his previous trip to the mound. Pineda is looking to avenge a difficult outing versus Toronto on June 2, when he was taken deep twice and allowed five runs on 10 hits in five innings of a 7-5 setback.

WALK-OFFS

1. New York C Gary Sanchez is 7-for-18 with three runs scored during his five-game hitting streak.

2. Toronto DH Kendrys Morales, who had a two-run single on Tuesday, didn't strike out in that contest after fanning 17 times in his previous eight games.

3. New York SS Didi Gregorius is 0-for-9 with four strikeouts in his last three contests and OF Jacoby Ellsbury is 1-for-11 and five strikeouts in that same stretch.

GAME: Tampa Bay Rays (44-41) at Chicago Cubs (41-42)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, July 05 - 2:20 PM EST
WHERE: Wrigley Field, Chicago, Illinois
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Chicago Cubs are having a tough time recapturing the magic of their World Series run last fall. The Tampa Bay Rays hope to delay it for at least another day when they wrap up a two-game set with the host Cubs on Wednesday.

The Rays held on for a 6-5 win in Tuesday’s series opener and have won three of their last four. The Cubs have dropped five of their last seven games to slip a game below .500 and 3 1/2 games behind Milwaukee in the National League Central. “It just feels like we're not clicking at the same time,” Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant told reporters. “We'll figure it out. I think we have a great team here and great pitching staff and guys who really want to do well. When you have those ideas in your head, then things turn out the way you want them to." The Cubs are 1-6 in interleague play this season after going 15-5 against the American League last season.

TV: 2:20 p.m. ET, FSN Sun (Tampa Bay), CSN Chicago

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rays LH Blake Snell (0-5, 5.36 ERA) vs. Cubs RH John Lackey (5-9, 5.24)

Snell has lost three straight starts, and the Rays have dropped each of the last four games he has started. The 24-year-old has yet to record a quality start in nine outings this season and hasn’t made it through six innings since his season debut April 6. Snell is 1-7 with a 4.64 ERA in 14 career road starts.

Lackey has just one win in his last seven decisions and has posted only three quality starts in his last nine outings. The 38-year-old had his worst performance of the season last time out in a loss at Washington, allowing eight runs and nine hits over 5 1/3 innings. Lackey is 13-8 with a 4.00 ERA in 24 starts against the Rays, but he hasn’t faced them since 2014.

WALK-OFFS

1. Cubs OF/2B Ian Happ is 8-for-24 during a six-game hitting streak and has hit safely in 13 of his last 14 games.

2. Rays SS Adeiny Hechavarria is 9-for-23 in six games since being acquired from Miami.

3. Chicago OF Jon Jay has reached base in his last 14 starts at home.

GAME: Chicago White Sox (37-46) at Oakland Athletics (36-48)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, July 05 - 3:35 PM EST
WHERE: Oakland Coliseum, Oakland, California
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Right-hander Mike Pelfrey has made five career starts against the Oakland Athletics and the results have not been pretty, posting five losses while pitching to a bloated 7.56 ERA. Pelfrey will look to end that streak when he takes the mound for the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday afternoon in the finale of a three-game series at Oakland.

The Athletics ended a streak of their own on Tuesday, halting a six-game slide on a walk-off homer by rookie Franklin Barreto in the bottom of the ninth inning. Yonder Alonso was mired in a 16-game homerless drought before going deep twice to push his season total to 19 - more than double his previous career high. Fellow Cuban Jose Abreu of the White Sox homered for the third time in five games and has seven RBIs during that span. Teammate Melky Cabrera also homered Tuesday while registering a sixth multiple-hit game in his last nine.

TV: 3:35 p.m. ET, WGN (Chicago), NBCSN California (Oakland)

PITCHING MATCHUP: White Sox RH Mike Pelfrey (3-6, 4.13 ERA) vs. Athletics RH Sonny Gray (3-4, 4.09)

Pelfrey labored through five innings in a no-decision versus Texas last time out, giving up five runs on eight hits and surrendering a pair of homers for the second straight start. He gave up three runs on four hits over 4 2/3 innings in a loss to Oakland in his previous turn and has one win in his last seven outings. Khris Davis (5-for-8) and Rajai Davis (5-for-11) have tormented Pelfrey.

Gray is coming off one of his best performances but wound up taking a hard-luck loss after permitting only one run on two hits over a season-high eight innings against Atlanta. Gray also was superb in his previous outing, beating the White Sox in Chicago with seven strong innings of two-run ball (one earned). Cabrera and fellow outfielder Avisail Garcia are a combined 3-for-19 against Gray.

WALK-OFFS

1. Cabrera is 10-for-22 with two homers, seven RBIs and seven runs scored during a five-game hitting streak.

2. Barreto broke out of a 2-for-24 slump with a homer and triple - his first extra-base hits since his season debut on June 24.

3. Abreu has hit safely in six straight games and nine of 10.

GAME: New York Mets (38-45) at Washington Nationals (50-34)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, July 05 - 7:05 PM EST
WHERE: Nationals Park, Washington, District of Columbia
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Amid a recent hot stretch, the New York Mets talked openly about their ability to catch the Washington Nationals in the National League East, but they're not helping their cause this week in the nation's capital. The first-place Nationals will aim for a three-game sweep of the visiting Mets when the teams meet Wednesday evening.

Daniel Murphy drove in five runs and Bryce Harper had two RBIs to lift Washington to an 11-4 victory in Tuesday's second game of the set, which gave the hosts an 11 1/2-game lead on third-place New York. While the Nationals have won three in a row following a three-game slide, the Mets have lost three straight on the heels of their confidence-boosting 7-1 surge. New York played the Independence Day matinee without outfielders Yoenis Cespedes (cramps) and Curtis Granderson (hip), and fill-in T.J. Rivera (cramps) left in the seventh. The Mets have a good chance at salvaging the finale behind starter Jacob deGrom, who has won four straight starts in dominating fashion.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, ESPN, SNY (New York), MASN (Washington)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Mets RH Jacob deGrom (8-3, 3.55 ERA) vs. Nationals RH Tanner Roark (6-6, 5.27)

Since allowing eight runs in four innings at Texas on June 6, deGrom has limited four opponents to a total of three earned runs in 32 frames. He has allowed just 15 hits while striking out 31 during that stretch, which includes seven innings with 12 punchouts in a 2-1 win over Philadelphia his last time out. The second of those four straight victories came against Washington on June 18 (eight innings, one unearned run) and the 29-year-old has a 2.95 ERA in 10 career starts against the Nationals.

Roark's struggles continued with his fourth straight loss Friday at St. Louis, where he gave up three runs in three innings while walking a season-high five. He has an ERA of 11.88 over his last four starts, giving up 13 runs in 11 frames in his two home starts during that span. The 30-year-old helped Washington defeat New York on April 21 with 6 2/3 solid innings and he is 6-2 with a 2.61 ERA in his career against the division rivals.

WALK-OFFS

1. Murphy is batting .405 in 31 career games against the Mets.

2. Granderson has been out of the starting lineup in three straight games but he did come off the bench to hit in each of the first two contests of this series.

3. Harper is 7-for-12 with six RBIs over his last three games.

GAME: Pittsburgh Pirates (38-46) at Philadelphia Phillies (28-54)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, July 05 - 7:05 PM EST
WHERE: Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Just as Gerrit Cole was starting to resemble the top-of-the-rotation starter needed by the Pittsburgh Pirates, he turned in another head-scratching clunker. Cole will attempt to get back on track against the worst team in the majors when the visiting Pirates play the third of a four-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday night.

Former MVP Andrew McCutchen was batting .200 in late May but he was named the National League Player of the Month in June and clubbed a pair of homers in Pittsburgh's 3-0 victory on Tuesday. "I love it, I think about it all day," McCutchen told reporters. "You go through these stretches, but for me, I'm just trying to remain consistent with where I'm at." Philadelphia was denied its first three-game winning streak in a month, stranding 11 on base and going 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position. Rookie right-hander Ben Lively vies for his second win as he makes his seventh career start for the Phillies.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, ROOT Pittsburgh, CSN Philadelphia

PITCHING MATCHUP: Pirates RH Gerrit Cole (6-7, 4.51 ERA) vs. Phillies RH Ben Lively (1-3, 3.72)

Cole's three-start winning streak ended with a thud when he was rocked for seven runs on 10 hits over 5 1/3 innings by the San Francisco Giants in his last outing. It marked the fourth time in eight starts that Cole allowed double-digit hits and came after he permitted one run in three consecutive turns. Maikel Franco is 3-for-6 and Freddy Galvis 3-for-9 with a homer against Cole.

Lively is winless since earning the victory in his major league debut on June 3, but he has registered five of six quality starts since his promotion. He took the loss last time out at the New York Mets despite giving up two runs over 6 1/3 innings to fall to 0-3 over his last five turns. He will be pitching for only the third time at Citizens Bank Park, where he is 1-0 with a 2.77 ERA.

WALK-OFFS

1. McCutchen is 15-for-31 over his last nine games.

2. Phillies 1B Tommy Joseph is 1-for-16 in eight games versus Pittsburgh this season.

3. Pirates 2B Josh Harrison is 0-for-14 in four games in July.

GAME: San Francisco Giants (33-52) at Detroit Tigers (37-45)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, July 05 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Comerica Park, Detroit, Michigan
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Victor Martinez answered a difficult week by doubling his hit total over that stretch in the opener of a three-game interleague series against the San Francisco Giants. Martinez hopes his new-found hot streak continues as the Detroit Tigers vie for an interleague series victory on Wednesday when they face the Giants at Comerica Park.

Martinez belted a solo homer in the second inning and added an RBI single in the fourth of Tuesday's 5-3 victory, improving upon a 2-for-20 stretch following his return from a bout with an irregular heartbeat. "I'm just happy I could do something to help the team win," the 38-year-old Martinez said. "That 2-for-20 shows I wasn't (swinging) the bat very well. I was swinging pretty good up to the point I went on the disabled list." While Detroit has answered an eight-game losing skid by winning five of its last eight contests, San Francisco saw its season-high six-game winning streak come to a halt on Tuesday. Brandon Crawford launched a two-run homer to hit safely for the sixth time in eight outings, collecting six RBIs in that stretch.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, NBCSN Bay Area (San Francisco), FSN Detroit

PITCHING MATCHUP: Giants LH Ty Blach (5-5, 4.60 ERA) vs. Tigers LH Daniel Norris (4-6, 5.00)

Blach answered a dismal 0-3 mark with a 9.28 ERA in a four-start stretch by allowing one earned run in 6 1/3 innings of a 5-3 victory over Colorado. The 26-year-old didn't help his cause with a pair of throwing errors, however, setting the stage for a pair of unearned runs. "This game's about picking each other up," Blach said of his last outing. "That's what we did in this series. Everybody contributed."

Norris yielded five earned runs for the second straight outing last Wednesday and surrendered two homers in 3 2/3 innings of an 8-2 loss to Kansas City. The 24-year-old admitted to thinking too much while he was on the mound, with Tigers manager Brad Ausmus electing to give him an extra day's rest as a result. "Trust your stuff, that's been preached to him for two years," Ausmus said. "He wants to be so good so fast. We've always kind of told him, 'Hey, get out of your own way, You can be really good. You've got the stuff.'"

WALK-OFFS

1. Detroit 1B Miguel Cabrera exited Tuesday's contest with left hip tightness, but Ausmus told reporters he expects the slugger to play on Wednesday.

2. San Francisco CF Denard Span is 0-for-8 in his last two games on the heels of a 12-for-25 stretch in his previous five contests with an at-bat.

3. Tigers LF Justin Upton is 5-for-7 with one homer and five RBIs in two contests sandwiched around a three-game absence due to a sore right side.

GAME: Baltimore Orioles (40-43) at Milwaukee Brewers (46-40)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, July 05 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Miller Park, Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Eric Thames made a triumphant return to the lineup and the Milwaukee Brewers have a chance at a three-game sweep of the visiting Baltimore Orioles when the teams finish their set Wednesday night. Thames sat out the opener of the series - an 8-1 win for the Brewers - but was back in there against a right-hander Tuesday afternoon and responded in a big way.

The slugger smacked his 22nd and 23rd home runs as part of a four-homer barrage for Milwaukee, which opened up a season-high 3 1/2-game lead in the National League Central. Travis Shaw had one of the other two home runs for the Brewers a day after he was struck in the wrist with a pitch, and the third baseman has four long balls in his last eight games. The Orioles are still waiting for their third baseman to heat up, as Manny Machado was held to a single in four at-bats Tuesday and is 3-for-31 over an eight-game span. Jayson Aquino will get the start for Baltimore in place of Chris Tillman, who is expected to be placed on the paternity list.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, MASN2 (Baltimore), FSN Wisconsin (Milwaukee)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Orioles LH Jayson Aquino (1-1, 9.00 ERA) vs. Brewers RH Matt Garza (3-4, 4.36)

Aquino will be making his second career start and his first since April 22, when he held Boston to two runs in six innings. He followed that up with two relief appearances for Baltimore in which he gave up six runs in just two innings, which prompted a demotion to Triple-A Norfolk. The 24-year-old is 2-7 with a 4.46 ERA in 12 starts for the Tides.

Garza let up two runs and six hits in five innings of a no-decision against Miami on Friday in a game the Brewers would win 3-2. He is 9-1 with a 3.11 ERA lifetime versus Baltimore, although he has not faced the Orioles in over three years. The 33-year-old, who completed six innings just once in his last seven starts, has allowed seven home runs in 36 1/3 innings at home this year.

WALK-OFFS

1. Orioles 2B Jonathan Schoop homered and scored twice Tuesday, and the All-Star recorded his fifth multi-hit effort in his last nine games.

2. Milwaukee is 17-7 in the third game of a series and 9-3 on Wednesday.

3. Baltimore is expected to activate closer LHP Zach Britton (forearm) on Wednesday.

GAME: San Diego Padres (35-48) at Cleveland Indians (44-38)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, July 05 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Progressive Field, Cleveland, Ohio
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Cleveland Indians are sitting atop the American League Central despite a dismal home record, a point driven home by their latest defeat. After wasting a record performance by ace Corey Kluber, the Indians will look to rebound from a hard-luck loss Wednesday when they continue a three-game interleague series against the visiting San Diego Padres.

Tuesday's 1-0 defeat was the 22nd loss in 40 home games for Cleveland, and it came against a team that is tied for the major league low with 13 road wins. All-Star third baseman Jose Ramirez continues to swing a hot bat for the Indians and is 9-for-24 with three homers and seven RBIs during a six-game hitting streak. Cory Spangenberg drove in the lone run and had two of five hits for San Diego, which has won seven of its last 11 overall. The Padres have the worst run differential in baseball at minus-119 but have three shutout wins in their last 10 games.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, FSN San Diego, STO (Cleveland)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Padres RH Luis Perdomo (3-4, 4.71 ERA) vs. Indians RH Trevor Bauer (7-6, 5.24)

Perdomo was not particularly impressive last time out versus Atlanta, giving up four runs and seven hits over 5 1/3 innings, but he won for the third time in his last four starts. He allowed only two hits over six scoreless innings in his previous turn against Detroit but had to overcome five walks in the 1-0 victory. Perdomo is 0-3 with a 4.50 ERA in five starts away from home.

Bauer won a duel against Texas' Yu Darvish last time out, limiting the Rangers to one run on four hits over 6 1/3 innings. It marked the third time in four starts that the UCLA product yielded two runs or fewer and gave him four of Cleveland's 18 wins at Progressive Field. Shortstop Erick Aybar is the only San Diego player to have faced Bauer, collected three hits and two RBIs in seven at-bats.

WALK-OFFS

1. Cleveland is 2-10 in interleague play this season.

2. Padres 1B Wil Myers is 0-for-11 with nine strikeouts in his last three games.

3. Indians manager Terry Francona missed Tuesday's game while undergoing further medical testing and it's unclear if he will be at the park Wednesday.

GAME: Houston Astros (57-27) at Atlanta Braves (40-42)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, July 05 - 7:35 PM EST
WHERE: SunTrust Park, Cumberland, Georgia
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

As well as the Houston Astros have played at home in building a major-league leading 57-27 record, it is the work they have done on the road entering Wednesday’s game at the Atlanta Braves that has been ultra impressive. The Astros won for the 19th time in their past 22 road contests Tuesday, matching a season high with 19 hits in smashing the Braves 16-4 while getting four RBIs each from Jose Altuve, Yuli Gurriel and Josh Reddick.

The only negative note Tuesday as the Astros improved their road mark to 30-9 was All-Star shortstop Carlos Correa leaving the game after he jammed his left thumb on a play at home plate, but x-rays were negative. Correa did extend his hitting streak to a career high-tying 13 games in the contest as Atlanta’s Freddie Freeman returned from the disabled list and made his debut at third base. Freeman finished 1-for-4 and cleanly handled the only ball hit his way in the longtime first baseman’s first major-league action at the hot corner. Atlanta had won 11 of its past 15 games entering the series opener, but had no answer as the top three hitters in Houston’s lineup finished 10-for-16 with eight runs scored and nine RBIs.

TV: 7:35 p.m. ET, ROOT Southwest (Houston), FSN Southeast (Atlanta)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Astros RH Joe Musgrove (4-7, 6.01 ERA) vs. Braves LH Jaime Garcia (2-6, 4.35)

Houston is expected to summon Musgrove from Triple-A Fresno for the series finale, after he fired seven scoreless innings Thursday in his first start since being demoted. The 24-year-old lost his first three starts in June, surrendering nine runs on 12 hits (including three homers) in 3 2/3 innings June 23 at Seattle. Musgrove beat the Braves on May 10, allowing two runs on four hits in six innings.

Garcia is a free agent at season’s end and while the Braves likely will try and deal him before the July 31 trade deadline, they need the veteran to snap his recent slide. Garcia ended June by allowing six runs on seven hits in each of his final three starts, giving up five homers in 16 innings while posting a 10.13 ERA in that stretch. He lost to the Astros on May 10 in Houston, surrendering four runs on six hits in six innings of a 4-2 defeat.

WALK-OFFS

1. Houston hit seven doubles Tuesday, extending its franchise-record streak of consecutive games with at least one two-base hit to 41.

2. Atlanta RF Nick Markakis finished 2-for-4, moving within 21 hits of 2,000 for his career.

3. Astros CF George Springer hit his 25th homer of the season Tuesday and finished with four hits, falling a triple shy of the cycle.

GAME: Boston Red Sox (49-35) at Texas Rangers (40-44)
DATE/TIME: Wednesday, July 05 - 8:05 PM EST
WHERE: Globe Life Park in Arlington, Arlington, Texas
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge is already running away with the American League Rookie of the Year Award, but Andrew Benintendi is still bidding to make it a two-man race. The rookie sensation will try to lead the Boston Red Sox to a three-game sweep when they visit the Texas Rangers in the series finale on Wednesday.

Benintendi certainly looks like a Rookie of the Year and MVP candidate to the Rangers, who watched him knock in the go-ahead runs in Monday's 7-5 Red Sox win and then saw him go 5-for-5 with two home runs, six RBIs and four runs scored in Tuesday's 11-4 drubbing. Benintendi is up to 12 homers and 50 RBIs on the season while batting .288 and he showed off his defensive prowess in left field with a leaping catch against the wall in Tuesday's win - Boston's sixth straight and eighth in the last nine games. Benintendi is 1-for-2 with a single and a walk in his brief career against Texas right-hander Andrew Cashner, who goes up against Red Sox righty Doug Fister on Wednesday. The Rangers are losers of three straight and six of their last seven and watched the pitching staff allow at least five runs in each of those six setbacks.

TV: 8:05 p.m. ET, NESN (Boston), FSN Southwest (Texas)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Red Sox RH Doug Fister (0-1, 4.91 ERA) vs. Rangers RH Andrew Cashner (3-7, 3.87)

Fister was solid in each of his first two starts after being picked up by Boston but is still looking for his first win. The California native yielded only four hits at Toronto on Friday but also walked three and was charged with three runs in five innings without factoring in the decision. Fister spent last season with Houston in the AL West and made five starts against Texas, posting a 1-2 record with a 4.73 ERA.

Cashner spent two weeks on the disabled list with an oblique injury only to return on Thursday at Cleveland and get hit on the right elbow by a broken bat. The 30-year-old was diagnosed with just a bruise and ended up charged with five runs and six hits in five-plus innings to suffer a loss. Cashner was not at his best in Boston on May 23, when he issued a season-high four walks and allowed five runs and six hits in five frames.

WALK-OFFS

1. Rangers 3B Adrian Beltre became the 17th player in MLB history to reach 600 career doubles on Monday.

2. Texas 1B Mike Napoli homered in each of the last four games.

3. In the fan vote for the final AL All-Star spot, which closes Thursday afternoon, Red Sox SS Xander Bogaerts sits second behind Kansas City's Mike Moustakas while Texas SS Elvis Andrus ranks fourth.

PREDICTION: Red Sox 8, Rangers 6
