MLB | Brewers vs Yankees
Play on: Yankees -148 at betonline

10* FREE MLB PICK (Yankees -148)

New York worth a look as they host the Brewers in Sunday's series finale. Yankees rallied to win 5-3 yesterday, securing the win on a 3-run home run by Frazier in the bottom of the 9th. I look for that momentum to carry over into this one and it doesn't hurt to have ace Masahiro Tanaka on the mound. Tanaka didn't have a great first half, but has been trending in the right direction with a 1.29 ERA and 0.905 WHIP in his last 3 starts. Milwaukee's Jimmy Nelson has great overall numbers with a 3.20 ERA in 17 starts, but a lot of his sucess has come at home. In fact, Nelson has a 2.35 ERA in 10 home starts and a 4.62 ERA in 7 road starts. Give me the Yankees -148!

MLB | SDG vs PHI
Play on: UNDER 9 -130

#MLB Free Pick from Mike Lundin
Play: Under
Rating: 5/10*

The Philadelphia Phillies and the San Diego Padres are the two lowest scoring teams in the MLB this season. The first two games of this series have seen just a total of 10 runs scored.

Here the Phillies hand the ball to Jerad Eickhoff (0-7, 4.93 ERA) who held the D'Backs to one run through six innings his last time out. Note that Philly still lost the game 5-1. Eickhoff has posted an ERA of 3.63 in three day starts on the season and he had decent success in two starts against the Padres last year, going 2-0 with a 2.77 ERA through 13 innings.

Trevor Cahill (3-2, 2.96 ERA) will toe the slab for San Diego. He tossed 4 1/3 scoreless innings of four-hit ball at Cleveland his last time out. Cahill is 2-4 with a 3.40 ERA in 11 career appearances (five starts) against Philadelphia.

Under is 6-3-1 in San Diego's last 10 games and 7-1-2 in the Phillies' last 10.

MLB | Pirates vs Cubs
Play on: Pirates +161 at betonline

Play - Pittsburgh Pirates w/Taillon (Game 901).

Edges - Pirates: Taillon 2.73 ERA this season, including 2.31 ERA away… Cubs: Lester 0-3 last three team starts in this series… With Taillon 3-1 in his career team starts during July, we recommend a 1* play on Pittsburgh. Thank you and good luck as always.

MLB | Mets vs Cardinals
Play on: Mets +110 at 5Dimes

Free Pick on Mets +

New York is showing some decent value here as a decently priced road dog given the pitching matchup. The Mets send out lefty Steven Matz, who has been sharp in his 5 starts since joining the rotation on 6/10. Matz has a 2.12 ERA and 1.029 WHIP. The impressive thing is 4 of the 5 starts have come on the road and he's faced the loaded Nationals lineup twice and the Dodgers once. Given how the Cardinals struggle against left-handed pitching (just .236 team average vs lefty starters this season), you could argue New York should be favored here.

St Louis will counter with Lance Lynn, who has a respectable 3.87 ERA in 17 starts this season, but is not in good form. Lynn owns an ugly 6.35 ERA in his last 3 starts. Cardinals haven't had much with him on the mound in early start times. They are just 3-11 in his last 14 starts during a day game. Take New York!

MLB | Padres vs Phillies
Play on: Phillies -101 at 5Dimes

If you pay attention to the Phillies - you know that they got absolutely blasted by the vast majority of teams over the first half of games. Their terrible differential is a pretty big measurement for how bad they have been. But, Philadelphia can score some runs - 2nd to last in the league. San Diego cannot score as many - last in the league. Winner, Philadelphia.

San Diego needs a 3B to start hitting, very badly, Cory Spangenberg is only hitting around .212 on the road - plus they can use a RF that can swing the bat with any notion of confidence. San Diego is slowly sinking towards the worst team on the season territory. RF's Hunter Renfroe and Matt Szczur just cannot hit a ball right now.

Philadelphia gets the call as my Sunday free selection.

MLB | OAK vs SEA
Play on: OVER 9½ -105

1* Bonus Play over Athletics/Mariners. A’s rookie Daniel Gossett (1-3, 6.23 ERA) was most recently rocked for five runs off nine hits with no walks across five innings in a no-decision against the White Sox on Tuesday. Gossett would throw first-pitch strikes to just 13 of 24 hitters and has now allowed five or more earned runs in three of his five starts this year (is just 1-2 with a 6.91 ERA on the road.) The home side counters with Felix Hernandez (3-3, 5.04) who was shelled for six runs off six hits and four walks in a 7-3 loss to KC on Tuesday (five of the six hits went for extra bases.) Recent form displayed by these two starting pitchers suggests that we’ll have a bit of a “slug-fest” in our hands in this one. Consider the over.

GAME: Milwaukee Brewers (49-41) at New York Yankees (45-40)
DATE/TIME: Sunday, July 09 - 1:05 PM EST
WHERE: Yankee Stadium, Bronx, New York
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Clint Frazier is the latest Baby Bomber to wow the Yankee Stadium crowd and hopes to continue the solid start to his major league career when New York hosts the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday in the teams' final game before the All-Star break. The Yankees trailed by a run entering the bottom of the ninth inning Saturday before Frazier's three-run homer gave New York an improbable 5-3 victory and the outfielder two home runs and six RBIs in his first 20 at-bats.

Frazier (3-for-4 on Saturday) joins fellow rookie Aaron Judge (major league-leading 30 home runs) and Gary Sanchez (13 home runs in 56 games) as the core of the Yankees' youth movement, prompting New York manager Joe Girardi to tell reporters: "Clint's at-bats all day were good, and to hit a three-run walk-off homer, we needed that." Milwaukee, which is 8-2 in its last 10 games as it continues to lead the National League Central Division, hopes Domingo Santana stays hot. The 24-year-old outfielder belted a three-run homer Saturday and is 14-for-28 with two home runs, nine RBIs and six walks in his last eight games. The Brewers' Jimmy Nelson has struck out at least eight in his last four starts - winning three - and opposes Masahiro Tanaka, who has won his last two starts after dropping six straight decisions.

TV: 1:05 p.m. ET, FSN Wisconsin (Milwaukee), YES (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Brewers RH Jimmy Nelson (7-4, 3.20 ERA) vs. Yankees RH Masahiro Tanaka (7-7, 5.25)

Nelson allowed one run (unearned) and six hits while striking out eight in seven innings of a 6-2 victory over Baltimore on Tuesday, and didn't walk a batter for the fifth time this season. The 28-year-old Oregon native is 5-1 with a 2.31 ERA over his last eight starts, allowing 49 hits and striking out 68 in 54 2/3 innings. Nelson faces New York for the first time, and Starlin Castro (2-for-13) and Matt Holliday (disabled list) are the only players he faced from their days with the Cubs and Cardinals.

Tanaka yielded one run, five hits and one walk while striking out eight in seven innings of a 6-3 victory over Toronto on Monday and is 2-0 with a 1.29 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 21 innings over his last three outings. "He gets you off the fastball just in time to throw the fastball," Blue Jays' Steve Pearce told reporters about the 28-year-old Japan native, who posted an 8.91 ERA over seven games (0-6) before his three strong starts. "It's only a matter of time for somebody like that. Sometimes you'll feel the wrath of somebody when they're coming out of it. He's coming out of it - you could tell." Tanaka made one start versus Milwaukee, permitting two runs in 6 1/3 innings of a 5-3 win during his rookie season in 2014, and has handled former Boston infielder Travis Shaw (2-for-12, home run) well.

WALK-OFFS

1. Brewers RHP and All-Star Corey Knebel (1.76 ERA) blew his fourth save of the season Saturday after converting nine in a row.

2. Judge was second in the American League in RBIs (66) and third in batting average (.330) after going 1-for-3 on Saturday.

3. Milwaukee led 3-0 after one inning Saturday and has outscored opponents 78-44 in the opening frame this season.

GAME: Houston Astros (59-29) at Toronto Blue Jays (41-46)
DATE/TIME: Sunday, July 09 - 1:07 PM EST
WHERE: Rogers Centre, Toronto, Ontario
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Toronto Blue Jays are doing their best to climb back into at least American League wild card contention with four wins in their last five games as they host the Houston Astros on Sunday in the teams' final contest before the All-Star Game. Toronto (41-46) will need plenty of production from Josh Donaldson and Troy Tulowitzki, who each homered in Saturday's 7-2 victory with Donaldson's snapping a 21-game homerless drought and Tulowitzki going deep for the second straight contest.

Tulowitzki batted .299 in the first nine-plus seasons of his career with Colorado, but .251 with the Blue Jays since being acquired prior to the 2015 trade deadline. The 32-year-old shortstop, though, is 9-for-20 with two home runs and five RBIs in his last five games - raising his average 23 points to .254. Houston (59-29) has a hot hitter in its own in George Springer (.307), who is 15-for-27 during a six-game hitting streak with three home runs, nine RBIs and 11 runs scored. The Astros' Brad Peacock has won his last three starts - striking out 22 in 16 2/3 innings - and opposes J.A. Happ, who has returned to the form that won him 20 games last season.

TV: 1:07 p.m. ET, ROOT Southwest (Houston), TVA Sports, Sportsnet (Toronto)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Astros RH Brad Peacock (6-1, 2.91 ERA) vs. Blue Jays LH J.A. Happ (3-5, 3.47)

Peacock allowed three runs, seven hits and two walks while striking out seven in six innings of a 16-4 victory in Atlanta on Tuesday. The 29-year-old Floridian yielded only one home run and struck out 80 in 55 2/3 innings this season after yielding 41 round-trippers and fanning 231 in 263 2/3 frames over his first five seasons. Peacock, who is 4-1 with a 3.66 ERA in eight starts this season, is expected to move back to the bullpen once Dallas Keuchel returns from the disabled list.

Happ permitted one run, four hits and two walks while striking out six in six innings of a 4-1 victory at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday. The 34-year-old Illinois native has allowed three or fewer runs in six of seven starts since returning from the disabled list May 30, going 3-2 with a 3.07 ERA during that span and not walking more than two batters in his last five turns. Happ is 4-1 with a 3.21 ERA in seven starts versus Houston and has fared well against Jose Altuve (1-for-12) and Carlos Correa (1-for-6).

WALK-OFFS

1. Toronto C Russell Martin is 8-for-18 with two home runs, three RBIs and seven runs scored during a four-game hitting streak.

2. Correa went 0-for-3 with a walk Saturday to end his career-best 15-game hitting streak.

3. Springer's double Saturday extended Houston's two-base hit streak to 45 games, the fourth-longest run in history. Cleveland set the record with 75 in 1996.

GAME: Pittsburgh Pirates (41-47) at Chicago Cubs (43-44)
DATE/TIME: Sunday, July 09 - 1:10 PM EST
WHERE: Wrigley Field, Chicago, Illinois
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The All-Star break will provide a welcome reset for the Chicago Cubs, who have had a tough time gaining traction in their World Series defense. The Cubs hope to end a frustrating first half on a high note when they host the Pittsburgh Pirates for the rubber match of a three-game series Sunday.

The Pirates rallied for a 4-2 win Saturday behind a go-ahead two-run homer from Gregory Polanco, evening the series at a game apiece and improving to 4-1 at Wrigley Field this season. Pittsburgh is 4-2 on its current road trip and has gone 15-12 over the past month. The Cubs have alternated wins and losses over their last seven contests and haven’t won consecutive games since a three-game winning streak from June 18-20. Chicago hasn’t won a series since taking two of three from visiting San Diego from June 19-21.

TV: 1:10 p.m. ET, TBS, ROOT Pittsburgh, WGN (Chicago)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Pirates RH Jameson Taillon (5-2, 2.73 ERA) vs. Cubs LH Jon Lester (5-5, 3.94)

Taillon is 3-1 with a 1.98 ERA in five starts since returning from the disabled list on June 12. The 25-year-old recorded a career-high nine strikeouts Tuesday at Philadelphia, allowing four hits and two walks over five innings in his second straight scoreless outing. Taillon has split two starts against the Cubs this season and is 2-2 with a 3.68 ERA in four career meetings.

Lester was tagged for six runs (five earned) Tuesday against Tampa Bay, matching his highest total of the season and marking his highest at home since 2015. The 33-year-old had recorded four straight quality starts prior to the rocky outing. Lester is 4-4 with a 2.86 ERA in 10 turns against the Pirates.

WALK-OFFS

1. Cubs 1B Anthony Rizzo (6-for-11, two homers) and INF Javier Baez (5-for-7 with a home run) have enjoyed success against Taillon.

2. Pirates OF Gregory Polanco is 13-for-31 during an eight-game hitting streak and has six home runs against the Cubs – his most against any team.

3. Chicago OF/2B Ian Happ hit his 13th home run Saturday in his 50th major-league game, tying Kyle Schwarber for the most by a Cubs player in his first 50 games.

GAME: Boston Red Sox (50-38) at Tampa Bay Rays (46-43)
DATE/TIME: Sunday, July 09 - 1:10 PM EST
WHERE: Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg, Florida
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Tampa Bay Rays have a chance to take three of four from the visiting Boston Red Sox and match their high-water mark of the season when the American League East rivals complete their four-game series on Sunday afternoon. The Rays received a masterful pitching performance from Alex Cobb on Saturday before holding on for a 1-0 victory and can move four games over .500 with a win in the final contest before the All-Star break.

Tampa Bay leadoff batter Mallex Smith recorded a pair of hits Saturday to extend his hitting streak to seven games (12-for-29) and teammate Brad Miller is 3-for-5 with two walks since returning from a month-long stint on the disabled list. Rays All-Star Chris Archer will try to match Cobb’s effort on Sunday despite a 2-11 lifetime record against the Red Sox and faces his former mentor David Price, who won the AL Cy Young with Tampa Bay in 2012. Boston leads the New York Yankees by 3 ½ games and the third-place Rays by 4 ½ after dropping three of its last four contests, managing just three hits in Saturday’s setback. Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts (hand) returned to the lineup Saturday after a one-game absence and went 1-for-3.

TV: 1:10 p.m. ET, NESN (Boston) FSN Sun (Tampa Bay)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Red Sox LH David Price (4-2, 4.02 ERA) vs. Rays RH Chris Archer (7-5, 3.95)

Price struck out a season-high nine while allowing six hits over six scoreless innings Tuesday at Texas for his third win in four starts. The 31-year-old Vanderbilt product, who owns a 2.88 career ERA at Tropicana Field, has given up three or fewer runs in seven of his eight starts in 2017. Trevor Plouffe is 9-for-25 with two doubles versus Price, who is 3-3 with a 4.20 ERA in seven career games against Tampa Bay.

Archer has completed exactly six innings in five straight starts after permitting three runs to beat the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday and improving to 3-1 in that stretch. The 28-year-old, who was added to the All-Star team Friday, is second in the AL with 139 strikeouts over 116 1/3 innings. Mookie Betts is 10-for-26 against Archer, who limited the Red Sox to one run, six hits and two walks over 5 2/3 innings in a win on April 14.

WALK-OFFS

1. Boston OF Andrew Benintendi has reached base in a career-high 17 straight games after receiving an intentional walk in the ninth inning Saturday.

2. Tampa Bay All-Star OF/DH Corey Dickerson is 3-for-31 with 12 strikeouts in his last nine contests.

3. Red Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia owns multiple hits in four of his last seven games but went 0-for-4 on Saturday.

PREDICTION: Rays 4, Red Sox 2
