GAME: Washington Nationals (55-36) at Cincinnati Reds (39-52)
DATE/TIME: Monday, July 17 - 12:35 PM EST
WHERE: Great American Ball Park, Cincinnati, Ohio
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The offense and starting pitching of the Washington Nationals have been among the best in the National League all season long, but their bullpen has consistently let them down in big situations. Washington addressed its biggest shortcoming over the weekend by acquiring a pair of solid relievers from Oakland, and the NL East leaders may look to show them off Monday as they eye a four-game sweep of the host Cincinnati Reds.

The Nationals lead the NL in batting average (.279) and runs scored (515) while ranking third in starters' ERA (3.57), but 14 blown saves and a major-league worst 5.31 ERA from their relievers may be the only thing that has kept them from completely running away with the East. Washington finally made a move for bullpen help Sunday, trading Blake Treinen and a pair of prospects to the Athletics in exchange for right-hander Ryan Madson and left-hander Sean Doolittle. The Nationals haven't needed much from their bullpen in this series, however, as they have slugged 10 homers en route to outscoring the Reds 29-11. Scooter Gennett was one of the few bright spots this weekend for Cincinnati, driving in a total of seven runs over the last two contests.

TV: 12:35 p.m. ET, MLB Network, MASN (Washington)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Nationals RH Stephen Strasburg (9-3, 3.43 ERA) vs. Reds RH Scott Feldman (7-6, 3.94)

Strasburg entered the All-Star break on a less-than-ideal note on July 8, surrendering a season-high tying six runs (three earned) over a season-low three innings before leaving the game after getting hit in the hip by a comebacker. The three-time All-Star was coming off one on his more impressive performances of the season in a no-decision five days earlier, yielding only two hits in seven scoreless frames against the New York Mets. Joey Votto is 4-for-13 with two homers against Strasburg, who is 2-1 with a 5.00 ERA in seven starts versus the Reds.

Feldman took the loss for the first time in four turns July 5 at Colorado, surrendering a pair of homers among the four runs and five hits he allowed over five innings. The Hawaii native went 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA over his previous three outings, including a win in Washington on June 25 in which he permitted two runs and seven hits across seven frames. Feldman, who is 1-0 with a 2.50 ERA in three starts versus Washington, is 4-2 with a 3.00 ERA in nine turns at Great American Ball Park this season.

WALK-OFFS

1. After sitting out the series opener, Washington 2B Daniel Murphy is 5-for-9 with two homers, seven RBIs and four runs scored.

2. Votto, who is tied for the NL lead with 26 home runs, is 0-for-7 with four walks in this series.

3. This weekend marks the sixth time the Nationals have homered 10 times in a series since moving from Montreal in 2005 and the second time this season Cincinnati has allowed at least that many in a series.

GAME: Milwaukee Brewers (52-42) at Pittsburgh Pirates (44-48)
DATE/TIME: Monday, July 17 - 7:05 PM EST
WHERE: PNC Park, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Milwaukee Brewers’ excellent play away from home has been a major reason for their position atop the National League Central. The Brewers hope to continue their strong performance on the road when they begin a four-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday.

The Brewers own a 4 1/2-game lead over the Chicago Cubs in the National League Central, and they can credit the NL’s third-best road record at 24-18. "Especially with what's ahead of us with this 10-game road trip, a tough road trip, continuing that momentum is important for us,” Milwaukee manager Craig Counsell told reporters. “Getting some wins and feeling good about it, everybody is doing their job, that's what is going on.” The Pirates are seven games behind the Brewers, and the outcome of this week’s series could play a huge role in determining their strategy ahead of the non-waiver trade deadline. Pittsburgh took two of three from visiting St. Louis over the weekend and has won seven of nine overall.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, FSN Wisconsin (Milwaukee), ATT SportsNet-Pittsburgh

PITCHING MATCHUP: Brewers LH Brent Suter (1-1, 2.96 ERA) vs. Pirates RH Chad Kuhl (3-6, 4.96)

Suter has posted two straight quality starts since stepping in for the injured Chase Anderson. The 27-year-old held the New York Yankees to two runs and five hits over 6 1/3 innings of a no-decision in his last outing on July 8. Suter made four relief appearances against the Pirates last season, allowing three hits over 5 1/3 scoreless frames.

Kuhl had recorded two consecutive quality starts this month before being asked to make an emergency spot start on July 9 against the Cubs in which he gave up one run over three innings. The 24-year-old needs to work on pitching deeper into games, but he has posted a 3.51 ERA over his last eight outings. Kuhl is 2-0 with a 2.21 ERA in four career starts against the Brewers.

WALK-OFFS

1. Brewers 2B Jonathan Villar is 12-for-34 during his season-high eight-game hitting streak, while RF Domingo Santana is 12-for-26 with six doubles and a homer during his seven-game run.

2. Pirates OF Andrew McCutchen is 11-for-27 during his seven-game hitting streak.

3. Milwaukee has homered in nine straight contests and 27 of its last 29.

GAME: Texas Rangers (45-46) at Baltimore Orioles (42-49)
DATE/TIME: Monday, July 17 - 7:05 PM EST
WHERE: Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Baltimore, Maryland
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Baltimore Orioles will try to pick up the pieces from a disastrous start to the second half of their season when they begin a four-game series against the visiting Texas Rangers on Monday. The Orioles lost their series opener against the Chicago Cubs on a ninth-inning homer Friday night and then dropped the next two meetings by a combined score of 18-3.

Baltimore hitters struck out 14 times and managed three hits in Sunday's 8-0 loss, the club's eighth in the last 10 games overall. The Rangers were unable to complete a sweep at Kansas City to begin the second half, falling 4-3 on Sunday when a routine fly was lost in the sun in the bottom of the ninth to allow the Royals to plate the winning run. Mike Napoli went deep in the loss and he has a home run in six of 10 games this month. Andrew Cashner goes in the opener for Texas opposite Chris Tillman, who is winless with an ERA of 8.80 over his last 10 starts.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, FSN Southwest (Texas), MASN (Baltimore)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rangers RH Andrew Cashner (4-7, 3.54 ERA) vs. Orioles RH Chris Tillman (1-5, 7.90)

Cashner has been up-and-down for much of the past two months but entered the break on a high note after letting up two unearned runs in seven frames to defeat Boston on July 5. The 30-year-old has a 4.37 ERA on the road - compared to 2.50 at home - although he has yet to allow a home run in 45 1/3 innings away from Arlington. Cashner was solid through 7 1/3 innings in his only prior start against Baltimore in 2013, allowing one earned run in a no-decision at Camden Yards.

Compared to the rest of his rocky season, Tillman's last start on June 30 was a pretty good one, as he allowed two runs - his lowest total since his season debut May 7 - in five innings versus Tampa Bay. Opponents are hitting .362 versus the 29-year-old and have swatted 11 home runs against him over his last seven turns. Tillman, who has been significantly better at home (5.88 ERA in seven starts versus 12.33 in four road outings) is 3-2 with a 5.40 mark in his career versus Texas.

WALK-OFFS

1. Rangers 3B Adrian Beltre needs seven hits to tie Sam Rice (2,987) for 31st on the all-time list.

2. Orioles 1B Chris Davis went 1-for-11 with five strikeouts in the series against the Cubs, while CF Adam Jones was 1-for-12 with four strikeouts.

3. Texas 2B Rougned Odor is hitless in 15 at-bats over a four-game stretch.

GAME: Toronto Blue Jays (42-49) at Boston Red Sox (52-41)
DATE/TIME: Monday, July 17 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Fenway Park, Boston, Massachusetts
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Boston Red Sox hope to have some energy left after a draining weekend when they begin a four-game home series against the American League East-rival Toronto Blue Jays on Monday. The Red Sox suffered a 4-1 loss to the New York Yankees in 16 innings on Saturday before splitting a day-night doubleheader a day later, taking the nightcap 3-0 to open a three-game lead in the division.

Dustin Pedroia recorded a pair of hits and an RBI in the victory to extend his hitting streak to five games (8-for-21) and Mookie Betts belted a two-run homer for Boston, which has lost six of its last nine games overall but is 5-1 against Toronto this year. Eduardo Rodriguez returns from the disabled list to make the start for the Red Sox, who will have their hands full against Marcus Stroman in the series opener. Toronto dropped two of three to Detroit coming out of the All-Star break after Sunday’s 6-5 loss in 11 innings and is tied with Baltimore for last place in the AL East. Steve Pearce and Josh Donaldson both have gone 8-for-22 over the last seven games and Russell Martin, who was rested Sunday, is 10-for-29 with a pair of homers in the same span.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, ESPN, Sportsnet, TVA (Toronto), NESN (Boston)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Blue Jays RH Marcus Stroman (9-5, 3.28 ERA) vs. Red Sox LH Eduardo Rodriguez (4-2, 3.54)

Stroman has posted six quality starts in his last eight outings, including one on July 8 in which he limited AL-best Houston to one run over seven innings to gain the victory. The 26-year-old Duke product had one of his worst starts of the season against Boston on April 18, surrendering six runs and a season-high 11 hits over 4 2/3 frames of a loss. Xander Bogaerts is 10-for-20 with a homer versus Stroman, who is 4-2 with a 5.07 ERA against Boston.

Rodriguez returns to the rotation after missing 6 ½ weeks with a knee injury and allowing one run over 6 1/3 innings in his final rehab start for Triple-A Pawtucket on July 9. The 24-year-old Venezuelan yielded a season-high seven runs and eight hits - four homers - over 5 2/3 frames in his last outing on June 1 before going on the disabled list. Martin is 3-for-9 with a homer versus Rodriguez, who pitched one inning of scoreless relief against Toronto earlier this year.

WALK-OFFS

1. Toronto All-Star 1B Justin Smoak belted his 24th homer on Sunday and already has hit four more than his previous career high.

2. Boston UTIL Brock Holt (vertigo) returned to the roster for the first time since April 20 on Sunday and went 1-for-5 in the doubleheader.

3. Blue Jays DH Kendrys Morales homered Sunday, pulling him within three runs of 500 in his career and four hits of 1,100.

GAME: St. Louis Cardinals (44-47) at New York Mets (41-48)
DATE/TIME: Monday, July 17 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Citi Field, New York City, New York
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

If the St. Louis Cardinals are going to get back in the National League Central race, they’ll have to play better on the road. The Cardinals look to do so when they begin a four-game series against the host New York Mets on Monday.

St. Louis has struggled to an 18-23 road record after dropping two of three in Pittsburgh over the weekend to open a 10-game road trip. Adam Wainwright looks to shake off his own woes on the road this season, as he is 3-4 with an 8.36 ERA in eight starts away from home. The Mets began the second half by taking two of three from visiting Colorado but were routed 13-4 in Sunday’s series finale. St. Louis took two of three from New York at home in its final series before the All-Star break.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, FSN Midwest (St. Louis), SNY (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Cardinals RH Adam Wainwright (10-5, 5.20 ERA) vs. Mets RH Zack Wheeler (3-6, 4.86)

Wainwright won his last three starts before the All-Star break, recording at least seven strikeouts in each outing. The 35-year-old defeated the Mets in his last turn on July 8 in St. Louis, allowing one run and recording seven strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings. Wainwright is 4-5 with a 4.66 ERA in 12 career appearances (10 starts) against New York.

Wheeler is winless in his last seven starts, with his last victory coming on May 20. The 27-year-old had a stretch of three straight turns in which he didn’t make it past the fourth inning, but he bounced back with a strong outing on July 8 at St. Louis, allowing two runs over six frames of a tough-luck loss in his first career meeting with the Cardinals. Wheeler has struggled to a 2-4 record and 5.35 ERA in eight home starts this season.

WALK-OFFS

1. Cardinals 1B Matt Carpenter is 9-for-23 during his six-game hitting streak and has reached base in 19 consecutive contests.

2. Mets LF Yoenis Cespedes (hip) sat out Sunday but is expected back in the lineup for the series opener.

3. New York RF Jay Bruce, who has gone 11-for-30 with four home runs during his seven-game hitting streak, is 13-for-44 with three homers and 15 strikeouts against Wainwright.

GAME: Philadelphia Phillies (30-60) at Miami Marlins (41-49)
DATE/TIME: Monday, July 17 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Marlins Park, Miami, Florida
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Philadelphia Phillies return to the Sunshine State with revenge on their minds as they continue their six-game road trip with the opener of a three-game series against the Miami Marlins on Monday. Philadelphia's most recent visit to Miami was a forgettable one, as it was outscored 21-5 while being swept in a three-game set from May 29-31.

The Phillies avoided a similar fate in Milwaukee on Sunday, salvaging the finale of their three-game series with a 5-2 triumph that featured Nick Williams' first career grand slam. Miami had no such luck, however, as it was unable to rally from a three-run deficit and dropped a 3-2 decision to the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers that completed a three-game sweep. Christian Yelich remained hot at the plate, going 2-for-4 with an RBI to extend his hitting streak to seven games. The 25-year-old outfielder, who could be one of several Marlins moved before the non-waiver trade deadline on July 31, has registered six multi-hit performances during his run.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, CSN Philadelphia, FSN Florida (Miami)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Phillies RH Jerad Eickhoff (1-7, 4.63 ERA) vs. Marlins RH Tom Koehler (1-4, 8.00)

The Phillies are hoping a stint on the disabled list was just what Eickhoff needed, as he returned from a back injury to scatter five hits and match his season high of eight strikeouts over five scoreless innings against San Diego on July 9 en route to his first victory of the year. The 27-year-old native of Indiana pitched well enough to win in his previous outing but settled for a no-decision after yielding one run in six frames versus Arizona on June 17. Eickhoff is 2-3 with a 3.30 ERA in five career starts against Miami.

Koehler has lost each of his last three starts, surrendering 18 runs on 17 hits and nine walks over 9 2/3 innings. The 31-year-old from the Bronx, New York was tagged for eight runs over three frames by Houston in his last home outing on May 16 before being sent to the minors for 1 1/2 months. Koehler owns a 4-4 record and 3.43 ERA in 16 career appearances (14 starts) against Philadelphia.

WALK-OFFS

1. Phillies CF Odubel Herrera's three-game homer streak ended Sunday but he did go 2-for-5, giving him at least one hit in nine of his last 10 contests.

2. Miami RHP Edinson Volquez (knee) likely will not begin throwing off a mound for another week.

3. Philadelphia 2B Cesar Hernandez (oblique), who hasn't played since June 9, is expected to be activated from the disabled list prior to the series opener.

GAME: Chicago Cubs (46-45) at Atlanta Braves (45-45)
DATE/TIME: Monday, July 17 - 7:35 PM EST
WHERE: SunTrust Park, Cumberland, Georgia
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

There may not be another pitcher in baseball more anxious to start the second half than Jon Lester, who gets the call as the defending world champion Chicago Cubs open a three-game series Monday at the Atlanta Braves. Lester, who won 19 games a season ago, was pummeled for 10 runs (four earned) in just two-thirds of an inning in his final start of the first half and has allowed nine earned runs in 5 2/3 innings across two July starts.

Chicago begins the week hoping to continue the offensive onslaught that led to a three-game weekend sweep at Baltimore, scoring 27 runs in the three games as Willson Contreras finished the series 8-of-14 with four RBIs. The surprising Braves are at .500 (45-45) after finishing a three-game home sweep of Arizona on Sunday, winning 7-1 as Brandon Phillips doubled three times. Phillips finished the series 7-for-12 with five doubles, a homer and four RBIs. The Cubs start the week trailing Colorado by 5 ½ games for the second and final wild-card spot in the National League, with Atlanta sitting one half-game behind Chicago.

TV: 7:35 p.m. ET, WGN (Chicago), FSN Southeast (Atlanta)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Cubs LH Jon Lester (5-6, 4.25 ERA) vs. Braves RH Julio Teheran (7-6, 4.79)

Lester put together a strong June, going 2-1 in six starts with a 3.41 ERA while allowing three earned runs or fewer five times. The 33-year-old is 2-3 with a 4.96 ERA in eight away starts, giving up seven homers in 45 1/3 innings and a .288 batting average against. Lester is 4-2 in seven career starts against Atlanta, going 1-0 with a 0.64 ERA in two outings last season with two walks and 17 strikeouts over 14 innings.

Teheran ended an up-and-down first half with two strong road starts to begin July, allowing two runs on seven hits in 13 1/3 innings in a no-decision against Oakland and a victory against Washington. He held the Nationals to four hits in seven scoreless innings in his last turns on July 8. Teheran, who posted a 6.35 ERA in June, is 2-0 with a 3.11 ERA in six career starts against Chicago.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Braves hit four doubles Sunday, giving them at least two in 12 consecutive contests - three shy of the club record.

2. Cubs 3B Kris Bryant collected three hits for the second consecutive game Sunday, his third such effort this month and the ninth game in 2017 with at least that many.

3. Atlanta is 37-17 this season when scoring four or more runs.

GAME: Seattle Mariners (46-47) at Houston Astros (62-30)
DATE/TIME: Monday, July 17 - 8:10 PM EST
WHERE: Minute Maid Park, Houston, Texas
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Seattle Mariners will try to ride the momentum of a dramatic series sweep when they visit the American League West-leading Houston Astros for the first of three games Monday night. After winning their final game before the All-Star break, the Mariners took three in a row at the Chicago White Sox to open their road trip, capped by a 7-6 win in 10 innings Sunday.

Nelson Cruz's solo homer was the difference for Seattle (46-47), which has a chance to get back to .500 for the first time since June 25. Houston's lead over the Mariners in the American League West stands at a very comfortable 16 1/2 games, and it has won seven of 10 meetings between the two. The Astros rode a strong start from Mike Fiers (season-high 11 strikeouts in seven innings) en route to a 5-3 win over Minnesota on Sunday to take two of three. Lance McCullers Jr. will try to duplicate Fiers' performance when he gets the nod in the opener opposite lefty Ariel Miranda.

TV: 8:10 p.m. ET, ROOT Sports Northwest (Seattle), ATT Sportsnet - Houston

PITCHING MATCHUP: Mariners LH Ariel Miranda (7-4, 4.15 ERA) vs. Astros RH Lance McCullers Jr. (7-2, 3.05)

Miranda followed up seven scoreless innings on June 30 by giving up six runs in five frames five days later against Kansas City. The 28-year-old was reached for four runs in 7 1/3 innings in a loss to Houston on June 25 at home and opened the season with back-to-back starts versus the Astros, surrendering six runs on 12 hits and five walks in 10 2/3 frames. George Springer is 4-for-11 with four home runs against Miranda, who has a 5.48 ERA on the road.

McCullers had won five decisions in a row before a loss at Toronto on July 6, when he allowed six runs (five earned) and a season-high nine hits in 4 1/3 innings. The former first-round pick has logged five straight turns without allowing a home run and only one batter has taken him deep over a span of 10 outings. McCullers has yielded two runs in 11 innings over two outings versus the Mariners in 2017, and he is 5-2 with a 2.09 ERA in seven starts against them.

WALK-OFFS

1. Astros 2B Jose Altuve has seven multi-hit efforts during his nine-game hitting streak.

2. Mariners 2B Robinson Cano is hitless in eight at-bats over his last two games and is batting .205 in 10 contests against Houston this year.

3. Cruz has homered in consecutive games and has five in his last eight affairs.

GAME: New York Yankees (47-43) at Minnesota Twins (46-45)
DATE/TIME: Monday, July 17 - 8:10 PM EST
WHERE: Target Field, Minneapolis, Minnesota
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

After beginning the second half of the season by splitting a four-game series with their hated rivals, the New York Yankees continue their 11-game road trip with the opener of a three-game set against the Minnesota Twins on Monday. New York broke even with Boston over the weekend, splitting a pair of 3-0 decisions in Sunday's doubleheader to remain 3 1/2 games behind the first-place Red Sox in the American League East.

Didi Gregorius and Clint Frazier each collected three hits in the twinbill for the Yankees, but rookie phenom Aaron Judge struggled in the series - going 1-for-18 after entering the All-Star break with a seven-game hitting streak. Minnesota has lost four of its last five contests and sits 1 1/2 games behind both Cleveland and New York for first place in the AL Central and the second wild-card spot, respectively. The Twins began the second half by dropping two of three at Houston, including a 5-3 decision on Sunday in which Ehire Adrianza went 2-for-3 with his fourth career homer and first this season. Minnesota is looking to avoid a three-game slide at Target Field as it kicks off a six-game homestand that includes three contests against division-rival Detroit.

TV: 8:10 p.m. ET, YES (New York), FSN North (Minnesota)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Yankees RH Bryan Mitchell (1-1, 5.06 ERA) vs. Twins LH Adalberto Mejia (4-4, 4.43)

Mitchell was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to serve as the 26th man on Sunday and was slated to start the opener of the doubleheader but instead will take the mound versus Minnesota. The 26-year-old native of North Carolina has made 12 relief appearances for the Yankees this season, allowing 11 runs - nine earned - and 15 hits over 16 innings while also notching one save. Mitchell started against Minnesota on Aug. 17, 2015, giving up one run and four hits with two strikeouts over 1 2/3 frames of a no-decision.

Mejia had his three-start winning streak snapped on July 8, when he surrendered four runs and five hits in 6 2/3 innings of a loss to Baltimore. The 24-year-old Dominican rookie gave up a total of three runs over 17 2/3 frames during his string of victories. Mejia, who faces New York for the first time, has struggled to a 2-3 record and 5.62 ERA in eight starts at home.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Yankees became the last team in the major leagues to be shut out when they fell 3-0 in Sunday's nightcap.

2. Minnesota has lost five consecutive series and 10 of its last 12 games against New York.

3. New York optioned RHP Domingo German to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday night after recalling him prior to the doubleheader.

GAME: Detroit Tigers (41-49) at Kansas City Royals (45-45)
DATE/TIME: Monday, July 17 - 8:15 PM EST
WHERE: Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City, Missouri
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

If the Kansas City Royals aren’t able to win the American League Central this season, they won't need to look any further than their struggles inside the division as to why they fell short. After snapping a five-game losing streak Sunday, the Royals hope to move back one game over .500 one day later as they welcome the Detroit Tigers for the opener of a four-game set.

Kansas City avoided getting swept over the weekend when Texas right fielder Shin-Soo Choo lost Lorenzo Cain's routine fly in the sun with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning Sunday, allowing the game-winning run to score in a 4-3 win over the Rangers. The Royals (45-45), who are only two games behind division-leading Cleveland despite not climbing over the break-even mark until June 24, have not been nearly as fortunate inside the Central - going 13-21 against their division rivals. That record includes a 2-4 mark against Detroit, which scored 17 runs over the final two games of its home set against Toronto over the weekend to take the series. The Tigers withstood three homers from the Blue Jays and used three free passes in the 11th inning to pull out a 6-5 victory Sunday, including the first walk-off walk of Miguel Cabrera's career.

TV: 8:15 p.m. ET, FSN Detroit, FSN Kansas City

PITCHING MATCHUP: Tigers RH Jordan Zimmermann (5-7, 5.87 ERA) vs. Royals LH Jason Vargas (12-3, 2.62)

Zimmermann suffered his third loss during a six-game winless streak July 7 at Cleveland, giving up five runs on eight hits and a walk over three-plus innings. The two-time All-Star is 0-2 with a 9.95 ERA over his last three outings after stringing together four quality starts to begin June (1-1, 2.36). Zimmermann has been masterful against the Royals in his career while going 2-0 with a 1.44 ERA in four appearances (three starts), including 1-0, 1.04 in three games (two starts) in 2016.

Vargas escaped with a no-decision July 5 to extend his unbeaten streak to eight games despite a rare poor performance in Seattle, surrendering a season-high three homers among the six runs he allowed in five frames. Despite the uncharacteristic effort, the 34-year-old first-time All-Star ranks first in the AL in wins and second in ERA. Cabrera is among one of five Detroit regulars hitting over .300 against Vargas, who is 3-4 with a 5.37 ERA in 10 starts against the Tigers.

WALK-OFFS

1. Vargas has the most wins (seven) and lowest ERA (1.84) at home among qualifying pitchers in the AL.

2. Detroit OF J.D. Martinez's game-tying homer in the eighth Sunday was his 31st of his career in the eighth inning or later, 13 of which have either tied the game or given the Tigers the lead.

3. Prior to dropping two of the three in Kaufman Stadium to Texas over the weekend, the last time Kansas City lost a home series was May 29-31 against Detroit.

GAME: San Diego Padres (40-51) at Colorado Rockies (53-41)
DATE/TIME: Monday, July 17 - 8:40 PM EST
WHERE: Coors Field, Denver, Colorado
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

After losing 15 of their previous 20 games, the Colorado Rockies are hoping they've turned a corner with Sunday’s 13-4 rout of the New York Mets. Leadoff hitter Charlie Blackmon is hitting .383 during his 11-game hitting streak to lead the Rockies, who open a three-game series against the visiting San Diego Padres on Monday.

Ian Desmond came off the disabled list Sunday and helped spark the Rockies’ 18-hit outburst with two hits and two RBIs, while Nolan Arenado homered and drove in three runs. Blackmon and Gerardo Parra each added two-run homers for the Rockies, who are second in the National League wild card race with a 5 1/2-game lead over the Chicago Cubs. Colorado needs to be careful not to overlook the pesky Padres, who rolled to a 7-1 victory over San Francisco on Sunday to complete their third straight series win. Cory Spangenberg went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer and has settled in as San Diego's regular third baseman over the past few weeks.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Padres RH Luis Perdomo (4-4, 4.54 ERA) vs. Rockies RH German Marquez (6-4, 4.36)

Perdomo won his third consecutive start on July 5, holding Cleveland to two runs (one earned) over five innings in a 6-2 victory. The promising 24-year-old has allowed three or fewer runs in 11 of his 15 outings this season. Perdomo is 0-2 with a 5.32 ERA in five career games (three starts) against Colorado and has struggled to contain Arenado (3-for-10, two home runs) and Carlos Gonzalez (5-for-10, one homer).

Marquez is pitching for the first time since July 7, when he allowed three runs over seven frames in 12-4 victory against the Chicago White Sox. The rookie native of Venezuela has gone 3-2 with a 4.66 ERA in six starts at home this season. Marquez is facing San Diego for the second time this season after allowing six runs on eight hits with nine strikeouts over five innings in an 8-5 loss at Petco Park on June 2.

WALK-OFFS

1. Parra has gone 11-for-24 with 10 RBI since coming off the disabled list on July 7.

2. Padres C Austin Hedges has been held out of the past two games as a precaution after taking a foul ball off his facemask on Friday but could return Monday.

3. Colorado placed RHP Tyler Chatwood on the 10-day disabled list with a strained right calf.

GAME: Tampa Bay Rays (49-44) at Oakland Athletics (42-50)
DATE/TIME: Monday, July 17 - 10:05 PM EST
WHERE: Oakland Coliseum, Oakland, California
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Oakland Athletics are not playing like a last-place team of late and look to continue their surge when they host the playoff-contending Tampa Bay Rays on Monday for the opener of their three-game series. The Athletics have won seven of their last nine games overall after sweeping three from American League Central-leading Cleveland following the All-Star break.

Oakland scored 17 runs in the three contests against the Indians and rookie Matt Chapman recorded his fifth extra-base hit in the series with a double in Sunday’s 7-3 victory that extended the team’s home winning streak to five games. Rookie Daniel Gossett will try to keep the surge going for the Athletics against Jake Odorizzi, who attempts to help Tampa Bay win for the fifth time in six contests. The Rays left the bases loaded in the top of the ninth inning of a 4-3 setback at the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday, but they hold down one of the two AL wild-card spots after finishing 68-94 last year. Logan Morrison has homered in two straight games to push his career high to 26 for Tampa Bay and teammate Evan Longoria has hit safely in nine consecutive contests, going 13-for-33 with seven RBIs in that stretch.

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rays RH Jake Odorizzi (5-4, 4.63 ERA) vs. Athletics RH Daniel Gossett (1-4, 6.23)

Odorizzi has allowed three or more runs in each of his last seven outings after giving up seven in 4 1/3 innings against Boston on July 7, and he has recorded only two quality starts in that span. The 27-year-old Illinois native, who served up two homers in the loss to the Red Sox, has surrendered at least one blast in 13 straight starts and 15 of his 16 on the year. Marcus Semien is 3-for-4 with a homer versus Odorizzi, who is 0-2 with a 3.97 ERA in four career starts against Oakland.

Gossett has gone 0-2 while permitting 13 runs in 14 1/3 innings over three starts since registering his first major-league victory on June 24 against the Chicago White Sox. The 24-year-old Clemson product also has had trouble keeping the ball in the park, giving up five homers in his last three games and eight in his six big-league outings. Gossett, who will face Tampa Bay for the first time, is 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA in two turns at home.

WALK-OFFS

1. Tampa Bay OF Mallex Smith went 8-for-14 with six runs scored and four stolen bases as the Rays took three of four from the Athletics from June 9-11.

2. Oakland traded RHP Ryan Madson and LHP Sean Doolittle to Washington on Sunday for RHP Blake Treinen and two prospects.

3. The Rays designated Jumbo Diaz for assignment after Sunday’s game and recalled fellow RHP Andrew Kittredge from Triple-A Durham.

GAME: Cleveland Indians (47-43) at San Francisco Giants (35-58)
DATE/TIME: Monday, July 17 - 10:15 PM EST
WHERE: AT&T Park, San Francisco, California
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Cleveland Indians look to snap their longest losing streak since 2015 on Monday as they open a three-game series against the host San Francisco Giants, who have dropped six of their last seven. Cleveland was swept in three games by last-place Oakland over the weekend and have lost four in a row, but they’ll receive little sympathy from a cellar-dwelling Giants team that has fallen 23 games under .500.

Francisco Lindor went 4-for-4 with three doubles in Sunday’s 7-3 loss to the Athletics, but he was one of the few bright spots as starting pitcher Trevor Bauer lasted just eight batters and failed to escape the first inning. The Indians were 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position in the loss but still lead the American League Central by 1 1/2 games over Minnesota and hope to get untracked across the Bay. Giants first baseman Brandon Belt was scratched from Sunday’s 7-1 loss to San Diego with a sprained left wrist and is listed as day-to-day, and the team desperately needs his power. Belt has a team-high 16 home runs for the Giants, who have hit the fewest homers in the majors and have been outhomered 36-24 at AT&T Park.

TV: 10:15 p.m. ET, STO (Cleveland), NBCSN Bay Area (San Francisco)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Indians RH Josh Tomlin (5-9, 5.90 ERA) vs. Giants LH Matt Moore (3-9, 6.04)

Tomlin turned in an encouraging outing last Thursday against San Diego, allowing two runs over seven innings in an 11-2 victory. The strong performance was a step in the right direction after the 32-year-old gave up a total of 21 runs in his five previous starts. Eduardo Nunez is hitless in nine at-bats against Tomlin, who is 9-5 with a 4.51 ERA in 18 career interleague starts but has never faced San Francisco.

Moore’s disastrous season continued in his last start on July 7, when he allowed five runs on 12 hits over 3 1/3 innings against Miami. The Giants are 5-13 when the 28-year-old takes the mound, including 2-6 at home. Moore, who owns a 2-1 record and 3.81 ERA in six starts against the Indians, last faced Cleveland in 2016 as a member of the Tampa Bay Rays and allowed one run in seven innings.

WALK-OFFS

1. Nunez has reached base safely in 33 consecutive games.

2. The Indians are 4-8 all-time against the Giants, including six straight losses.

3. Giants RHP Matt Cain will start Wednesday’s series finale in place of RHP Johnny Cueto (blisters).

PREDICTION: Indians 6, Giants 4
