KEY STAT: Partick have not won in their last seven matches

EXPERT VERDICT: Partick failed to make a winning start to life in the League Cup, drawing 1-1 against Livingston and the Jags finished last season poorly in the Premiership. Championship outfit St Mirren were turned over by Livingston themselves on Tuesday but they could have the fitness edge on the hosts which may help Saints.

RECOMMENDATION: St Mirren

CFL Betting Notes - Week 5

Week 4 Recap

Last week in the CFL started on Thursday night with Winnipeg’s 33-25 victory against Toronto as a three-point home favorite. In the first of two Friday games, the home team won again with Montreal stunning Calgary 30-23 as a four-point underdog. Edmonton went on to beat Ottawa 23-21 in the nightcap, but it could not cover the three points at home.

Week 4 wrapped up on Saturday night with British Columbia breaking the streak of home team victories with a convincing 41-26 romp over Hamilton as a 3 ½-point road favorite.

Saturday, July 22

Saskatchewan Roughriders (1-2 SU, 2-1 ATS) vs. Calgary Stampeders (2-1-1 SU, 1-3 ATS)
Point-spread: Calgary -11 ½
Total: 57 ½

Game Overview

The Roughriders come into this game off a bye week and they have been able to cover ATS in five of their last six games played on the road. Kevin Glenn has done a solid job at quarterback with 1,055 yards passing and seven touchdown throws. He has completed 99 of his first 136 passing attempts to post the top completion percentage in the CFL (72.8). Saskatchewan has still had its issues with a defense that is allowing an average of 26.7 PPG.

Calgary appeared to be on track for another successful run to the top of the West Division standings before last week’s shocking upset at the hands of Montreal. The Stampeders had a slight 20-16 lead against the Alouettes heading into the final quarter, but their defense could not make the plays at the end of the game when it had to the most.

Betting Trends

-- Calgary is a perfect 6-0 SU in the last six meetings and it has a 4-2-1 edge ATS in its last seven home games against the Roughriders. The total stayed UNDER in both meetings last season after going OVER in the previous four games between these two West Division foes.

Saturday's CFL betting preview and odds: Roughriders at Stampeders

Bo Levi Mitchell completed 34-of-50 passes for 379 yards and a touchdown while Kamar Jorden continued his hot start to the campaign by catching nine passes for 140 yards against the Alouettes.

Saskatchewan Roughriders at Calgary Stampeders (-10, 56)

The Calgary Stampeders look to bounce back from a rare regular-season loss when they host the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday. The Stampeders dropped a 30-23 decision to the Montreal Alouettes in Week 4 - only their third defeat since the start of the 2016 season - after being outscored 14-3 in the fourth quarter and hope to get back on the winning track by beating the Roughriders for the ninth consecutive time.

Calgary has won 11 straight home games, including a convincing 35-15 victory against Saskatchewan last season, and has averaged 37.6 points over its last five meetings with the Roughriders at McMahon Stadium. Saskatchewan picked up its first win of the season when it routed the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 37-20 on July 8 in its last game. The Roughriders, who lead the league in time of possession (33:20), net offence (410.3) and first downs (19.7) per game, racked up 474 yards from scrimmage and hope for another offensive explosion in order to end their run of futility on the road where they have dropped 15 of their last 18 contests since the beginning of the 2015 season. Saskatchewan has been on the wrong end of a one-sided rivalry with Calgary in the last five years and looks to turn its fortunes in the series around by beating the Stampeders for the first time since a 36-21 triumph July 5, 2013.

TV: 9 p.m. ET, TSN, RDS

LINE HISTORY: The Stampeders opened as 11.5-point home chalk and that line was bet down as low as 10, where it currently sits. The total hit the betting board at 57.5 and was briefly bet up to 58 before fading all the way down to 56.5.

ABOUT THE ROUGHRIDERS (1-2 SU, 2-1 ATS, 2-1 O/U): Kevin Glenn had a night to remember as he threw for 380 yards and accounted for four touchdowns against Hamilton to move within 163 yards of reaching 50,000 for his career. "I've been in a lot of systems that were a great fit," Glenn told reporters. "Being in the league for so long and understanding what we're try to actually do is probably the reason I've had success." Saskatchewan added defensive back A.J. Jefferson, who had 39 tackles and three interceptions with the Toronto Argonauts in 2016, to the practice squad to add versatility to the secondary while defensive lineman Ese Mrabure was placed on the injured list after suffering a knock against the Tiger-Cats.

ABOUT THE STAMPEDERS (2-1-1 SU, 1-3 ATS, 3-1 O/U): Bo Levi Mitchell completed 34-of-50 passes for 379 yards and a touchdown but had numerous drives stall in the red zone while Kamar Jorden continued his hot start to the campaign by catching nine passes for 140 yards against the Alouettes. Defensive end Charleston Hughes, who registered 16 sacks in 2016, practiced during the week and could return after missing the previous two games with a leg injury as could offensive lineman Shane Bergman, who has undergone the league's concussion protocol over the past few weeks. "It's a minor injury but something that's kept me out for a couple of weeks," Hughes told reporters. "It's a little bit different now as I feel like I'm well prepared to play."

TRENDS:

* Stampeders are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 vs. West.

* Over is 5-1 in Roughriders last 6 games in July.

* Over is 5-1 in Stampeders last 6 games overall.

* Roughriders are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 meetings.

CONSENSUS: The home favorite Stampeders are getting 51 percent of the action from users and the Under is picking up 53 percent of the totals wagers. View full consensus data for this matchup here.

EXTRA POINTS:

* Calgary is 25-3 at home since the start of the 2014 season.

* Jorden leads the CFL with four touchdown catches.

* Saskatchewan WR Bakari Grant has caught a touchdown pass in each game this season.

GAME: San Diego Padres (42-54) at San Francisco Giants (37-61)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, July 22 - 4:05 PM EST
WHERE: AT&T Park, San Francisco, California
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Less than 13 hours after completing a marathon that ended after 11 innings, the San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants resume their four-game series with a Saturday afternoon matchup at AT&T Park. Matt Szczur, Carlos Asuaje and Jose Pirela each recorded four hits in Friday’s 12-9 victory as the Padres continued their recent dominance in the all-time series.

Pirela extended his hitting streak to nine games while Hector Sanchez went 3-for-6 with a solo homer to lead the Padres, who have won 16 of their last 21 meetings with the Giants. Sanchez is 7-for-19 with four home runs and 10 RBIs against his former team this season and has proven to be a capable fill-in for Austin Hedges, who is out with concussion symptoms but hopes to return when eligible on Tuesday. The Giants have lost nine of their last 12 contests and figure to be active in the days leading up to the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, with third baseman Eduardo Nunez among those expected to be moved. Nunez has bolstered his value in recent weeks, batting .333 with 15 extra-base hits, 20 RBIs and 10 stolen bases over his last 38 games.

TV: 4:05 p.m. ET, FSN San Diego, NBCSN Bay Area (San Francisco)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Padres RH Luis Perdomo (4-5, 4.94 ERA) vs. Giants LH Matt Moore (3-10, 5.81)

Perdomo had his three-game winning streak come to halt Monday after allowing seven runs - five earned - in 2 1/3 innings of a 9-6 loss at Colorado. “He clearly wasn’t his typical self. He didn’t have his normal sink, wasn’t locating really much of anything,” manager Andy Green told reporters. “He’ll get back to sinking the baseball and be ready to go.” The 24-year-old is 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA in six career games (four starts) against the Giants.

Moore is hoping to build on an encouraging outing against Cleveland on Monday, when he allowed four runs - two earned - over seven frames in a 5-3 loss. The 28-year-old became the first Giants starter to lose five straight home outings since Ryan Vogelsong in 2011. Moore, who is making his first career start against San Diego, has posted a 4.20 ERA in nine turns at home this season compared to a 7.61 mark in 10 road outings.

WALK-OFFS

1. Giants RHP George Kontos likely will be unavailable Saturday after pitching in four of the last five games.

2. The Padres’ bullpen is 4-1 with a 1.77 ERA in 33 1/3 innings against San Francisco this season.

3. The Giants are 8-45 this year when scoring fewer than four runs.

GAME: St. Louis Cardinals (47-49) at Chicago Cubs (49-46)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, July 22 - 4:05 PM EST
WHERE: Wrigley Field, Chicago, Illinois
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Chicago Cubs’ six-game winning streak came crashing down in epic fashion, but the defending World Series champions will try to start a new run when they host the St. Louis Cardinals for the second of a three-game series Saturday. The Cubs didn’t lose any ground in the tightening National League Central race and remain one game behind Milwaukee, while the Cardinals closed within 3 1/2 of the Brewers.

The Cardinals scored nine runs with no outs in the eighth inning Friday to rally for an 11-4 win and snap the Cubs’ streak. It was a rare meltdown for Chicago’s bullpen, as the Cubs dropped to 43-3 when leading after seven innings. "You can't open another can of pitchers," Cubs manager Joe Maddon told reporters. "When you get behind like that, there's tomorrow to be concerned with and also Sunday." Chicago looks to left-hander Jon Lester for a deep outing Saturday to preserve that bullpen, which needed three pitchers in the eighth inning alone.

TV: 4:05 p.m. ET, Fox Sports 1, FSN Midwest (St. Louis), CSN Chicago

PITCHING MATCHUP: Cardinals RH Adam Wainwright (11-5, 5.08 ERA) vs. Cubs LH Jon Lester (6-6, 4.07)

Wainwright has won his last four starts and owns three quality starts in his last five outings. The 35-year-old beat the New York Mets last time out, allowing three runs (two earned) over 5 2/3 innings. Wainwright is 14-9 with a 4.09 ERA in 42 games (33 starts) against the Cubs and has split a pair of decisions against them this season.

After allowing 10 runs (four earned) and failing to get out of the first inning in his final start before the All-Star break, Lester threw a gem to start the second half. The 33-year-old held Atlanta to one run and three hits over seven innings on Monday to snap a two-start losing streak. Lester is 3-4 with a 2.37 ERA in 12 starts against the Cardinals but is winless in three meetings this season.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Cubs have allowed seven or more runs in an inning in three of their last five home games, including two straight.

2. St. Louis OF Randal Grichuk went 2-for-4 with a home run in his return from the disabled list Friday and is 9-for-23 with two doubles and three homers against the Cubs this season.

3. Cubs C Willson Contreras is batting .364 with four doubles, five home runs, and 12 RBIs in 14 games this month.

GAME: Houston Astros (64-32) at Baltimore Orioles (46-50)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, July 22 - 7:05 PM EST
WHERE: Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Baltimore, Maryland
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Houston Astros will try to continue to pick on the host Baltimore Orioles when the teams continue a three-game series at Camden Yards on Saturday. Collin McHugh makes his season debut for the Astros as he returns from an elbow ailment and will be making his 100th career start while hoping for the same kind of run support Houston's bats provided in the series opener.

Yuli Gurriel homered as part of a four-hit effort in the Astros' 8-7 win Friday night, which left them 4-0 against Baltimore this season and 10-1 over the last two years. Second baseman Jose Altuve had a hit in four at-bats Friday to extend his hitting streak to a season-high 13 games, during which he is batting .483. The Orioles had their four-game winning streak snapped but rallied late to make it interesting and they are averaging 9.5 runs over their last four affairs. McHugh will be opposite Baltimore's Chris Tillman, who is coming off perhaps his best start in an otherwise difficult season.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, AT&T SportsNet Southwest (Houston), MASN (Baltimore)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Astros RH Collin McHugh (2016: 13-10, 4.34 ERA) vs. Orioles RH Chris Tillman (1-5, 7.20)

McCugh is 43-26 with a 3.71 ERA in 90 career starts with the Astros and he led them with 33 starts a year ago. The 30-year-old made five rehab starts in the minors while posting a 5.06 ERA. McHugh was pounded for seven runs (six earned) in three innings at Camden Yards last August and owns a 6.18 ERA in five career meetings with the Orioles.

Tillman had an ERA of 8.39 through his first 10 starts but he has rebounded to yield three runs in 11 innings over his last two outings. The veteran righty has surrendered nine hits in that span and kept the ball in the ballpark during six solid innings against Texas his last time out, which marked the first time since May 24 that the 29-year-old had not surrendered a home run. Tillman is 2-3 with a 3.89 ERA in six career starts against Houston.

WALK-OFFS

1. Houston CF George Springer is 6-for-11 over his last three games.

2. Orioles 2B Jonathan Schoop has driven in 13 runs over his last five contests and CF Adam Jones boasts seven RBIs in a span of three games.

3. Astros 3B Colin Moran homered in his season debut Friday after being recalled from the minors earlier in the week.

GAME: Milwaukee Brewers (52-47) at Philadelphia Phillies (33-61)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, July 22 - 7:05 PM EST
WHERE: Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Milwaukee Brewers are in such a slump, they cannot even beat the worst team in baseball, and the National League Central leaders try to snap their six-game losing streak Saturday when they meet the Phillies in Philadelphia for the middle contest of a three-game series. Milwaukee's season-high slide is bookended with losses to the Phillies, including Friday's 6-1 setback, but the Brewers still lead the division by one game over the Chicago Cubs.

Milwaukee (52-47) has scored only 12 runs during the slide and part of the problem is that left fielder Ryan Braun's body is breaking down. Braun (.258, 11 home runs, 27 RBIs) missed his third straight start Friday and told reporters that he received a cortisone shot in his wrist prior to the All-Star break, adding to calf and elbow injuries that forced him to miss 53 games this season. Philadelphia (33-61) has won three straight contests - its longest streak since a four-game run June 3-6. Phillies right-hander Jeremy Hellickson is coming off a victory over the Brewers and makes what could be his penultimate start in a Philadelphia uniform prior to the July 31 trade deadline opposite Brent Suter, who has been sharp since taking the spot of the injured Chase Anderson in the rotation.

TV: 7:05 p.m. ET, FSN Wisconsin (Milwaukee), NBC 10 (Philadelphia)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Brewers LH Brent Suter (1-1, 3.09 ERA) vs. Phillies RH Jeremy Hellickson (6-5, 4.44)

Suter earned a no-decision after allowing two runs, seven hits and two walks while striking out two in 4 2/3 innings of Milwaukee's 4-2 loss at Pittsburgh on Monday. The 27-year-old Chicago native is 1-0 with a 2.12 ERA in three starts since replacing Anderson, striking out 15 and yielding 16 hits in 17 innings. Suter, a Harvard graduate who was selected in the 31st round of the 2012 draft by the Brewers, has never faced Philadelphia or any of its players.

Hellickson boosted his trade value after permitting two runs, four hits and one walk while striking out six in five innings of a 5-2 victory at Milwaukee on Sunday, improving to 3-1 with a 2.89 ERA in five career starts versus the Brewers. The 30-year-old Iowa native is 1-0 with a 3.26 ERA in his last five starts, allowing 25 hits and striking out 25 in 30 1/3 innings. Hellickson handles Braun and Eric Thames (combined 4-for-21), but struggles with Jonathan Villar (4-for-6, home run).

WALK-OFFS

1. Phillies OF Howie Kendrick (hamstring), sidelined since June 28, was activated from the disabled list Friday and had a pinch-hit single in the eighth inning.

2. Braun, who could play Saturday, is batting .372 with 21 home runs and 57 RBIs in 61 games versus the Phillies.

3. Philadelphia rookie RF Nick Williams went 1-for-4 on Friday, snapping his streak of recording multiple hits and RBIs at four games.

GAME: Miami Marlins (43-51) at Cincinnati Reds (40-56)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, July 22 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Great American Ball Park, Cincinnati, Ohio
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The Cincinnati Reds are in a tailspin at home and will try once again to find some magic at Great American Ball Park when they continue a three-game series with the visiting Miami Marlins on Saturday. With a 3-1 loss in the series opener Friday night, the Reds fell to 1-8 in their last nine games at home and they have been outscored 64-21 during their current homestand.

The first four hitters in their lineup combined to go 0-for-15 with five strikeouts in the setback, with All-Star shortstop Zack Cozart returning from a day off to go hitless in four at-bats. Christian Yelich had a pair of RBIs to support the work of four Miami pitchers in Friday's meeting, which helped the Marlins win for just the second time in seven games since the All-Star break. Closer A.J. Ramos, whose name has surfaced amid many trade rumors, recorded his 18th save for Miami, which has won four straight road games. Lefty Chris O'Grady takes the hill Saturday for the Marlins opposite Robert Stephenson for the Reds.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, FSN Florida (Miami), FSN Ohio (Cincinnati)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Marlins LH Chris O'Grady (1-1, 5.23 ERA) vs. Reds RH Robert Stephenson (0-2, 8.03)

O'Grady has given up three runs on five hits and two walks in each of his first two big-league starts. He posted that line in five innings while fanning six batters in a loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday. The 27-year-old had 54 strikeouts in 54 2/3 innings in 12 games with Triple-A New Orleans prior to being called up.

Stephenson will be making his first start of the season and ninth of his career after appearing 13 times out of the Cincinnati bullpen this year. The former first-round pick has surrendered 74 hits and 35 walks in his 61 2/3 innings in the majors. He was 2-3 with a 6.08 ERA in eight starts for the Reds in 2016.

WALK-OFFS

1. Friday's game marked only the fourth this year at Great American Ball Park in which neither team homered.

2. The 64 runs allowed by the Reds during the homestand is the third-highest total in franchise history for a homestand of 10 games or fewer.

3. Marlins RF Giancarlo Stanton is 5-for-14 with four home runs and three walks during a four-game hitting streak.

GAME: Oakland Athletics (43-53) at New York Mets (44-50)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, July 22 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Citi Field, New York City, New York
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

The New York Mets will try to stretch their winning streak to four games when they continue a three-game series with the visiting Oakland Athletics on Saturday. All-Star Michael Conforto has been heating up during the Mets' surge and he had two home runs in a 7-5 win to begin the set Friday night.

He is 8-for-19 with three homers and two doubles during a five-game hitting streak and is batting .303 with 12 long balls at home this year. The Athletics lost first baseman Ryon Healy in the opener after he took a bad-hop grounder off his head. They picked up a pair of late runs to make it interesting in the opener but left 11 runners on base overall in falling to 15-30 on the road. Shorstop Marcus Semien had four hits in Friday's loss after going 5-for-38 over his first 10 games after coming off the disabled list earlier this month.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, NBCSN California (Oakland), WPIX (New York)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Athletics LH Sean Manaea (8-5, 3.68 ERA) vs. Mets RH Zack Wheeler (3-7, 4.98)

Manaea has lasted at least seven innings in each of this three starts this month and picked up the win after allowing two runs in seven frames against Cleveland on Sunday. He owns a 2.67 ERA over his last four starts while allowing just one home run in 27 innings. The 25-year-old has never faced the Mets and is 1-2 with a 3.12 ERA in four interleague starts.

Wheeler has dropped five straight decisions after giving up four runs over 5 1/3 innings of a 6-3 loss to St. Louis on Monday. The former first-round pick has allowed seven home runs over his last five outings and owns an ERA of 10.13 ERA in that stretch. Wheeler is 1-1 with a 9.39 ERA in two career starts against Oakland.

WALK-OFFS

1. Healy told reporters he felt fine and hopes to play Saturday.

2. Mets RF Jay Bruce is 1-for-13 over his last three contests after hitting safely in eight consecutive games.

3. Athletics LF Rajai Davis has three straight multi-hit games.

DATE/TIME: Saturday, July 22 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Tropicana Field, St. Petersburg, Florida
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Elvis Andrus and the Texas Rangers showed some signs of life in the opener and a series victory is there for the taking when they visit the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday in the second of a three-game set. The Rangers rallied in the ninth inning for two runs, while Andrus snapped out of his slump with three hits Friday, including a homer, and his infield single knocked in the winning run in the 10th for a 4-3 win.

Andrus was just 2-for-33 in the previous eight outings before going 3-for-5 on Friday to improve his career batting average against the Rays to .323 as Texas put an end to a frustrating five-game slide. Andrew Cashner will try to help the Rangers put together a winning streak when he takes the mound against Tampa Bay All-Star Chris Archer, who gave up four runs over seven innings in a no-decision at Texas on May 31. The Rays wasted a chance to win for the seventh time in nine games Friday when starter Alex Cobb allowed a double to Joey Gallo and a two-run shot to Shin-Soo Choo within three pitches to open the ninth. “These guys will be frustrated tonight, but they’ll come to the ballpark (Saturday) and be ready to go,” Tampa Bay manager Kevin Cash told reporters after the loss.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, Fox Sports 1

PITCHING MATCHUP: Rangers RH Andrew Cashner (4-8, 3.58 ERA) vs. Rays RH Chris Archer (7-5, 3.91)

Cashner posted two quality starts to open July, including 6 2/3 innings of a three-run ball in a loss at Baltimore on Monday. The 30-year-old TCU product has struck out 43 versus 38 walks in 88 innings this year and is 2-6 with a 4.33 ERA in nine starts on the road (2-2, 2.50 at home). Cashner, who has been in the National League most of his career, faces Tampa Bay for the first time and Shane Peterson is 3-for-5 with a double and triple against him.

Archer has completed at least six innings in 11 straight outings and owns eight quality starts in that stretch but just one victory in the last four. The 28-year-old North Carolina native has struck out 25 in 18 2/3 innings over three July starts and fanned 156 overall in 129 frames with 43 walks. Archer (1-2, 5.30 ERA versus Texas) has handled Mike Napoli (2-for-22, 13 strikeouts), while Andrus (7-for-15, three doubles) has given him trouble.

WALK-OFFS

1. Tampa Bay LF/DH Corey Dickerson homered Friday and is 5-for-8 in the last two contests.

2. Choo is 6-for-15 with a pair of homers, five RBIs and four walks during a four-game hitting streak.

3. Rays RHP Alex Colome boasts a major-league best 46 saves since the 2016 All-Star break.

GAME: Toronto Blue Jays (44-52) at Cleveland Indians (49-45)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, July 22 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Progressive Field, Cleveland, Ohio
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Edwin Encarnacion broke out of his slump with a big night against his former team and the slugger looks to cause more pain when his Cleveland Indians host the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday night. Encarnacion had managed just two hits in 18 at-bats over his previous six games before belting a homer and knocking in four runs as Cleveland opened the series with a 13-3 triumph over the Blue Jays on Friday.

Encarnacion’s blast allowed him to reach 20 homers for the sixth consecutive season and the 34-year-old has gone deep against all 30 teams in the majors as the American League Central-leading Indians won for just the second time in eight games. Danny Salazar comes off the disabled list to get the start for Cleveland against Toronto ace Marcus Stroman, who pitched six scoreless innings May 8 to pick up his first career win versus the Indians. Stroman hopes to begin turning things around on the mound for the Blue Jays, who have permitted an average of 7.2 runs this month and surrendered at least 10 runs in five July contests. Toronto All-Star Justin Smoak has remained hot with a six-game hitting streak, in which he is 11-for-23 with seven RBIs.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, Sportsnet (Toronto), SportsTime Ohio (Cleveland)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Blue Jays RH Marcus Stroman (9-5, 3.10 ERA) vs. Indians RH Danny Salazar (3-5, 5.40)

Stroman has posted seven quality starts in his last nine appearances and allowed three earned runs combined in a four-game span. The 26-year-old Duke product gave up three unearned runs over 6 2/3 innings in a no-decision Monday at Boston after holding Houston to one tally over seven frames on July 8. Encarnacion is 2-for-2 with a walk against Stroman, who has a 2.53 ERA in four career outings versus the Indians.

Salazar, who had been moved to the bullpen, returns to the rotation after missing almost seven weeks with a shoulder injury. The Indians hope the 27-year-old Dominican Republic native can find his best form after failing to complete at least six innings in his last five starts. Jose Bautista is 2-for-9 but has a homer and four RBIs versus Salazar, who was pounded for five runs over 2 2/3 innings of no-decision against Toronto on May 10.

WALK-OFFS

1. Bautista boasts 11 homers - one this season - and 39 RBIs in 55 career games against the Indians.

2. Cleveland recalled LHP Tyler Olson from Triple-A Columbus after placing LHP Boone Logan (lat strain) on the 10-day disabled list.

3. Blue Jays OF/1B Steve Pearce is 14-for-41 with two homers and six RBIs in his last 12 games.

GAME: Detroit Tigers (44-51) at Minnesota Twins (48-47)
DATE/TIME: Saturday, July 22 - 7:10 PM EST
WHERE: Target Field, Minneapolis, Minnesota
LINE: N/A TOTAL: N/A

Even as the Detroit Tigers are stumbling to their worst start after 95 games since their disastrous 43-119 season in 2003, no team in the American League Central has been better at defeating their division rivals. The Tigers (44-51) attempt to improve their 23-18 mark inside the Central on Saturday when they continue their three-game set in Minnesota against the Twins.

Despite losing Miguel Cabrera to a bruised collarbone in the fourth inning Friday, Victor Martinez carried the offense with his first multi-homer game of the season to lead Detroit to a 6-3 victory in the series opener. Even though the Tigers stand seven games under .500, they remain 5 1/2 games behind Cleveland in the division and could get Cabrera back Saturday after precautionary X-rays came back negative on his shoulder. Meanwhile, the Twins (48-47) fell to Detroit for the fifth time in seven meetings this season and are 1-14 against Detroit in their last 15 contests at Target Field. Minnesota, which entered Friday with a chance to take back sole possession of first place in the division for the first time since June 25, instead dropped 1 1/2 games behind the Indians.

TV: 7:10 p.m. ET, FSN Detroit, FSN North (Minnesota)

PITCHING MATCHUP: Tigers RH Jordan Zimmermann (6-7, 5.58 ERA) vs. Twins RH Kyle Gibson (5-8, 6.29)

Zimmermann notched his first victory away from home in more than a year Monday at Kansas City, allowing one run on seven hits while striking out seven over 6 2/3 innings. The outing also marked his first win in seven turns overall since June 3, although his ERA (6.29) and batting average against (.310) on the road are among the worst marks in the majors. Brian Dozier is 3-for-13 with four strikeouts against Zimmermann, who gave up five runs in 4 2/3 frames in a loss to Minnesota on April 13.

Gibson lost for the fourth time in his last five decisions Sunday at Houston, surrendering four runs on six hits and a season-high tying four walks in six frames. The 29-year-old has struggled mightily in his nine home outings, going 2-5 with a 7.20 ERA after giving up a season-high seven earned runs to Baltimore in his last turn before the All-Star break. Gibson yielded a total of 12 runs (11 earned) while dropping each of his two outings versus the Tigers in April and is 4-7 with a 5.88 ERA in 12 starts against them.

WALK-OFFS

1. The Tigers are 23-8 over their last 31 meetings with the Twins.

2. Despite a 1-for-5 effort in the opener, Dozier is still batting .328 with six homers in his last 17 games against Detroit.

3. Tigers OF Mikie Mahtook rolled his ankle in the second inning Friday but was able to remain in the game, finishing 2-for-3 with a triple.

PREDICTION: Tigers 7, Twins 6
