Delaware Park - Race #3 - Post: 2:15pm - Claiming - 5.5 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $10,000 Class Rating: 77

Rating: 4

#3 MOON TRAVELER (ML=7/2)

MOON TRAVELER - This gelding runs very well off of a vacation. Another way to evaluate class is earnings per race. This horse has the highest in the group. I think he'll be close at the end.

Vulnerable Contenders: #6 EL KRACKEN (ML=9/5), #4 MOLTEN STEEL (ML=5/2), #2 FAITHFUL SERVANT (ML=6/1),

EL KRACKEN - That was just not a very good display in the last event. MOLTEN STEEL - No favorable outcomes for this horse in a short distance race over the last couple months tells me that this gelding is in a very difficult circumstance FAITHFUL SERVANT - Hasn't hit the board in any short distance contests of late. Doubtful to see him doing it this time out either. Finished fifth in his most recent effort with a mediocre speed figure. When I look at today's class figure, it would take an improved performance to win after that in this bunch.

# 4 KRISTEN'S LIMITS 5/2

# 3 SUGAR PI SQUARED 3/1

# 1 SHE MY TRAP QUEEN 4/1

I like KRISTEN'S LIMITS here. Has run admirably when racing a dirt sprint race. With a solid rider who has won at a respectable 19 percent rate over the last month. This has to be one of the top choices. Should come out strong - I have liked the way this filly has moved quickly to the front end recently. SUGAR PI SQUARED - Has run solidly when racing a dirt sprint race. Is a solid choice - given the 50 Equibase speed fig from her most recent race.

# 6 ALOTTA ROAR 3/1

# 7 D'FOREST DIVA 8/1

# 5 INSPIRED VOYAGE 8/1

ALOTTA ROAR looks solid to best this field. Overall the speed figures of this horse look formidable in this race. Ran a sharp last race. Has performed admirably lately in sprint races, posting a nifty 65 avg speed figure. D'FOREST DIVA - Ought to come out solid - I have liked the way this mare has moved swiftly to the lead recently. INSPIRED VOYAGE - With a sound 62 average speed rating at the distance, seems well suited for today's contest. Has a strong record at the distance and surface, which makes me back this mare.

RACE #8 - SARATOGA RACE COURSE - 4:55 PM EASTERN POST
The Caress Stakes
5½ FURLONGS TURF FILLIES AND MARES FOUR YEARS OLD AND UPWARD STAKES $200,000.00 PURSE

#12 FAIR POINT
#6 PRETTY PERFECTION
#2 MISSISSIPPI DELTA
#5 RUBY NOTION

Named after the multiple-graded stakes winning mare trained by Hall of Famer H. Allen Jerkens. Caress, a daughter of Storm Cat, retired in 1996 with a record of 13-4-2 from 29 career starts, including victories in the Grade 3 Poker at Belmont Park as well as the Beaugay and Athenia, both Grade 3 events at Aqueduct Racetrack. Here in the 9th running of this stakes test, #12 FAIR POINT has turned in a quartet of "POWER RUN PERFORMANCES" in her last five outings, hitting the board in three of those "adventures," including "POWER RUN WINS" in both her 3rd and 5th races back. Jockey Jose Ortiz has been in her irons on 16 previous occasions, hitting the board in 12 of those races, winning 5 times, and is back this afternoon her in Elmont for another ride, gunning for a "double hat trick win!" #6 PRETTY PERFECTION, a 6-1 shot, has hit the board in "POWER RUN FASHION" in three of her respective last five outings, including back-to-back "POWER RUN WINS" in her 4th and 5th races back.

Thistledown - Race #8 - Post: 5:10pm - Maiden Special - 6.0 furlongs on the Dirt. Purse: $30,000 Class Rating: 72

Rating: 4

#6 SOUTHERN MISCHIEF (ML=5/2)

SOUTHERN MISCHIEF - Ran last time around the track against a better field at Santa Anita. The move down the ladder based on class rating points should suit her well. This rider and handler have a high win percentage together. Just look at her last speed fig, 65. That one fits in this bunch.

Vulnerable Contenders: #2 CLASS DISTINCTION (ML=3/1), #5 RIO BO (ML=7/2), #4 SEEKING A TRAINER (ML=6/1),

CLASS DISTINCTION - The Brain tells me to keep away from horses in sprint contests that haven't hit the board in short distance affairs recently. This less than sharp equine ran a quite unimpressive fig last time out. She shouldn't improve and will probably lose in today's event running that number. RIO BO - I can't play this perpetual non-winner. Gets the job completed occasionally. This filly recorded a speed rating in her last contest which probably isn't good enough in today's race. SEEKING A TRAINER - Hard to put your money on the win end of any mount that finishes second and third as regularly as this thoroughbred does. Granted the last race was nice, finishing third. The lack of any recent activity raises some concerns though. Pedestrian speed figure last time out at Thistledown at 5 1/2 furlongs. Don't believe this vulnerable equine will improve too much in today's race.

Top HatGUEST COMMENTARY: Winston - SOUTHERN MISCHIEF - One of the class angles that my buddy Solo and I play, is to look at the lifetime earnings per start. This thoroughbred is in the top spot in my book.

CFL Betting Notes - Week 5

Week 4 Recap

Last week in the CFL started on Thursday night with Winnipeg’s 33-25 victory against Toronto as a three-point home favorite. In the first of two Friday games, the home team won again with Montreal stunning Calgary 30-23 as a four-point underdog. Edmonton went on to beat Ottawa 23-21 in the nightcap, but it could not cover the three points at home.

Week 4 wrapped up on Saturday night with British Columbia breaking the streak of home team victories with a convincing 41-26 romp over Hamilton as a 3 ½-point road favorite.

Monday, July 25

Ottawa RedBlacks (0-3-1 SU, 3-1 ATS) vs. Toronto Argonauts (2-2 SU, 2-2 ATS)
Point-spread: Toronto -1 ½
Total: 54

Game Overview

Ottawa has the unfortunate task of playing two games in a span of six days and fatigue on the road is bound to be a factor in this game regardless of what happens at home against Montreal on Wednesday night. The RedBlacks have been able to cover ATS in their last four road games and the total has stayed UNDER or ended as a PUSH in five of their last six games played in July.

Toronto finds itself in an excellent position to get back above .500 on the year against a division foe, but consistency has not been one of this team’s strong points this season. Ricky Ray has done his part at quarterback with a CFL-high 1,529 passing yards and his top target SJ Green also leads the league in receiving yards with 452 in his first four games.

Betting Trends

-- These two already met this season in Week 3 with Toronto coming away with a tight 26-25 win as a four-point road underdog. The total stayed UNDER 55 points in that game and it has now stayed UNDER in the last four meetings in this East Division tilt.

Monday's CFL betting preview and odds: Redblacks at Argonauts

Toronto hopes that a resurgent Ricky Ray, who leads the CFL with 382 passing yards per game, can propel the Argos past Ottawa for the seventh time in the last nine meetings.

Ottawa Redblacks at Toronto Argonauts (-3, 55)

The Toronto Argonauts can take sole possession of first place in the East Division when they host the Ottawa Redblacks on Monday. The Argonauts have had more than a week to dissect their 33-25 loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and hope to make the proper adjustments to their red zone offence by beating the Redblacks for the second time in 16 days following a thrilling 26-25 victory in the nation's capital July 13.

Toronto had to settle for six field goals against the Blue Bombers and hopes that a resurgent Ricky Ray, who leads the CFL with 382 passing yards per game, can propel the Argos past Ottawa for the seventh time in the last nine meetings. Ottawa picked up its first win of the season after holding off the Montreal Alouettes 24-19 on Wednesday. The Redblacks had dropped their previous three games by a combined seven points, but the defence came up big by stuffing the Alouettes on a 3rd-and-1 on the 8-yard line with less than two minutes to play and hope to have enough energy in the tank to make the best of a scheduling quirk that will see them play their third game in 11 nights. "I was proud of our guys and the way we stepped up and made plays at the end of the game to win it," Ottawa coach Rick Campbell told reporters. "It's going to be tough to go on the road but if we can find a way to pull it off and be done with the first third of the season we could end up in first place."

TV: 7:30 p.m. ET, TSN, RDS

LINE HISTORY: The Argos opened as one-point home favorites and by Sunday evening that number was bet up to -3. The total hit the bettings boards at 54 and was bumped slightly to 55.

ABOUT THE REDBLACKS (1-3-1 SU, 4-1 ATS, 2-3 O/U): Trevor Harris completed 29-of-41 passes for 376 yards and two touchdowns, including an 80-yard scoring toss to Greg Ellingson, who finished with six receptions for 149 yards, to help lift Ottawa past Montreal. "The parity in this league is crazy," Harris told reporters. "We just have to make sure we're coming to play every week and as long as we do I feel this is a team that can win a lot of games." The Redblacks signed defensive back C.J. Roberts, who had 26 tackles and two interceptions in seven games with Winnipeg last season, and defensive lineman Mike Wakefield.

ABOUT THE ARGONAUTS (2-2 SU, 2-2 ATS, 1-3 O/U): Martese Jackson, who was playing in his second career CFL game, was named one of the league's Top Performers of the Week after racking up 339 return yards, including a 78-yard punt return touchdown against Winnipeg. "I just want to build off it and also change the things I did wrong," Jackson told reporters. "I think fielding kicks and judging kicks I can do that a little better." Toronto is set to honour Hall of Fame quarterback Doug Flutie, who led the Argonauts to two straight Grey Cup victories in 1996 and 1997, in a ceremony prior to Monday's game.

TRENDS:

* RedBlacks are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall.
* Argonauts are 3-13 ATS in their last 16 games overall.
* Over is 6-1 in RedBlacks last 7 games as an underdog of 0.5-3.0.
* Under is 4-0-1 in Argonauts last 5 vs. a team with a losing record.
* Under is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings.

CONSENSUS: The home favorite Argonauts are getting 70 percent of the action from users and the Over is picking up 54 percent of the totals wagers.

EXTRA POINTS:

* Ray has thrown for more than 300 yards in all four games in 2017.
* Harris leads the CFL in passing yards (1,755) and touchdowns (10).
* Toronto WR S.J. Green caught 10 passes for 210 yards and a touchdown against Ottawa in the first meeting of the season.

My Bonus Play is on the Kansas City Royals on the road in Motown, as a valuable underdog against the Detroit Tigers.

The Royals are on the move, as the 2015 World Series champs have won five in a row after last night's walk-off win over the Chicago White Sox, and are sitting a mere 1 1/2 games back of the Cleveland Indians.

Tonight the run continues against a Tigers team that returns home from Minnesota, and clearly isn't playing with the momentum Kansas City is at the present moment.

Kansas City is hitting .273 this month, eighth best in the league.

That's a huge climb for a squad that hit a league-worst .210 in April, then .248 in May and .277 last month. Though the Royals are hitting a mere four points less this month, it's the ascension that is impressive. The Royals have scored the league's fifth most runs (99) this month.

Now I know the Tigers have plated the fourth most runs this month, but it's the price that creates this an attractice play, making the value a game you have to play. Take Kansas City as a huge underdog.

2* ROYALS (straight action)

Make up game from Progressive Field as the Reds and Indians resume their in-state rivalry. Thus far it is the Reds holding the 2-1 edge, but I like the Indians tonight, and I like them to win big.

Cincy has won just 2 of their last 10 games, and starter Tim Adleman is 0-3 his last 4 starts, with 14 earned runs allowed his last 20-plus innings pitched.

Cleveland returned home from a brutal road trip, and wound up sweeping Toronto over the weekend in their 3-game series. The Indians are also 15-2 their last 17 home games versus the Reds.

Starter Josh Tomlin looks like he has found a groove, as he enters this start having won his last pair of decisions, working into the 7th inning in both with 5 runs surrendered.

I think we see a Cleveland win tonight by at least 3 runs.

PIRATES VS. GIANTS
PLAY: PIRATES -150

No need to go into great detail about the state of the San Francisco Giants. This season has been a disaster, and the team has the look of a squad that can’t wait for this all to end.

The Pirates got cooled off the last couple of days at Colorado. But the Bucs have been showing some life lately and they’re still very much in the NL Central race, currently only three games out of first place.

I don’t expect the Pirates to be buyers at the approaching deadline, because that’s just not what this organization does. So while they’re very much alive in the divisional race, I don’t honestly look at the Bucs as serious contenders.

Nevertheless, Pittsburgh has an opportunity to gain ground the next few days if they can win this series with the Giants. I would definitely expect the Pirates to be taking this opponent very seriously. Surely the Pirates haven’t forgotten what took place in Pittsburgh at the start of this month. The Bucs were swept at home by San Francisco. Among the victims was Gerrit Cole, who got absolutely ripped in an ugly 13-5 loss.

Payback time begins tonight and given how well series sweep avengers have done this season, I’m willing to lay a little more than I usually like to tonight. I’m on the Pirates.

NK GOK Gabela vs. Zeljeznicar
Play: Zeljeznicar -1

Zeljeznicar has lost to AIK in Europe League and now they have only one focus - Bosnia League. In 3 previous home games against Gabela, Zeljeznicar won 5-0, 3-0, and 2-0. Everything lays on their part of weights today too. This win will be very important for the team in front of the home crowd in order to take some kind of a rematch for the loose in the Europe League
