Arizona Senator John McCain has been diagnosed with brain cancer.
The 80-year-old veteran politician was given the diagnosis last week after he had a blood clot removed.
In a statement late Wednesday, doctors reveal that McCain has been diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive cancer.
The statement says the 80-year-old senator and his family are reviewing further treatment, including a combination of chemotherapy and radiation.
The senator has been recovering at his Arizona home after doctors at the Mayo Clinic removed a blood clot above his left eye.
The former presidential candidate, who has represented Arizona since 1987, went for his annual checkup, complaining of fatigue and double vision, CNN reported.
Doctors then performed cat scan, which led to a MRI scan of the brain where they found a blood clot.
McCain underwent surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona last Friday, where he had a blood clot removed.

‘My grandmother, mother, brothers, sister, and I have all endured the shock of the news, and now we live with the anxiety about what comes next.
‘It is an experience familiar to us, given my father’s previous battle with cancer – and it is familiar to the countless American families whose loved ones are also stricken with the tragedy of disease and the inevitability of age.

‘If we could ask anything of anyone now, it would be the prayers of those of you who understand this all too well.’
Doctors said the senator had a 'minimally invasive' procedure to remove the nearly two-inch clot and that the surgery went 'very well.'
[h=3]SENATOR JOHN MCCAIN'S HISTORY OF MEDICAL ISSUES[/h]Senator McCain has come under the spotlight on various occasions to answer questions about his mental and physical health, particularly when he ran for President in 2000 and then again in 2008.
Both of the times he ran, McCain voluntarily released all information about his physical and mental health.
That is because the 80-year-old politician has had multiple public and serious procedures in his lifetime.
In August 2000, he was treated for invasive melanoma, and had to have a significant amount of skin on the left side of his temple removed.
He had had other incidences of melanoma previously, but they were all surface level and thus less concerning.

Throughout his adult life, the Senator has also had various orthopedic problems, primarily related to his time in the US Navy during the Vietnam War.
During the war his fighter jet was attacked by Vietnamese missiles. In the accident, he broke both of his arms, the right one in three places, and seriously broke his right leg right around his knee.
He was then held and tortured there for five-and-a-half years as a prisoner of war.
Since then, other than some trouble walking and brief bouts of dizziness, McCain has had no serious orthopedic issues. He has also had no psychological issues related to the imprisonment.
In 2001, McCain had some inflamed tissue removed around his prostate when he noticed blood in his urine. However, since then, all scans are clear.

The surgery forced Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to delay a vote on the Republican health care bill, another setback for the effort to repeal and replace Barack Obama's Affordable Care Act.
It was then delayed again after four Republicans announced their opposition to the legislation, meaning they could not advance the bill.
McCain, a former Navy pilot who was shot down over Vietnam and spent 5½ years as a prisoner of war, was the GOP's presidential nominee in 2008.
The brain cancer is the same that Ted Kennedy had.
The Republican lawmaker announced on Saturday that he would spend this coming week recuperating in Arizona.
McCain’s office announced that the senator underwent a procedure Friday to remove the blood clot.
Born into a military family, McCain prided himself on not having been the greatest student to ever walk the halls of the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.
He graduated in 1958 and entered the Navy.
By 1967, McCain was a veteran pilot aboard the USS Forrestal aircraft carrier off the coast of Vietnam.
He was preparing to take off on a bombing run over North Vietnam when disaster struck.
A missile accidentally fired from another plane, hitting the fuel tanks on McCain's aircraft and triggering explosions and fire.
McCain escaped from his plane by crawling onto the nose of the aircraft and diving on to the ship's fiery deck.
Before he could reach a fellow pilot whose flight suit was on fire, more explosions erupted, blowing McCain back.
When the inferno was finally contained 24 hours later, 134 men had been killed and hundreds more injured.
It was called the worst non-combat-related accident in US naval history.
Three months later McCain was on a bombing mission over Hanoi.
A missile struck his plane, shearing off the right wing. McCain ejected, and the force of the maneuver knocked him unconscious and broke both his arms and a leg.
He plunged into a Hanoi lake.
An angry mob dragged him from the water, broke his shoulder with a rifle butt and bayoneted him.
Fellow POWs at the Hanoi Hilton helped him survive, and he was imprisoned for 5-1/2 years.
Videotape of his POW ordeal still exists.

[h=3]WHAT IS A GLIOBLASTOMA MULTIFORME?[/h]Glioblastomas (GBM) are tumors that arise from astrocytes - the star-shaped cells that make up the 'glue-like,' or supportive tissue of the brain.
These tumors are usually highly malignant cancerous because the cells reproduce quickly and they are supported by a large network of blood vessels.
Glioblastoma multiforme is the most aggressive of the gliomas. Gliomas are divided into four grades; unfortunately, the most aggressive of these, grade 4 or glioblastoma multiforme, is also the most common in humans.
Fast growing tumours are much more likely to come back after treatment than slow growing tumours. Many people live for less than a year.

After he retired from the Navy in 1981, McCain decided to enter politics.
The next year, he was elected to represent the First District of Arizona in the US House of Representatives.
In 1987, McCain succeeded longtime Arizona Republican Barry Goldwater as senator.
In the late 1980s, McCain's name became embroiled in a political scandal that nearly derailed his career.

But Bush's unpopularity because of the invasion of Iraq, his handling of Hurricane Katrina, and the economic collapse of 2007 proved too insurmountable for the Republican. McCain would eventually lose the presidential election by a landslide to then-Illinois Senator Barack Obama

McCain was one of the so-called Keating Five, a group of five senators who are alleged to have improperly intervened with a federal investigation against a businessman who had contributed to their campaigns.
The senator was eventually determined not to have violated any laws and was given a mild rebuke.
In 1999, McCain announced that he would run for the Republican nomination for president.

As news of McCain's condition spread on Wednesday, both political foes and allies united to wish him well.
President Donald Trump, who during the recent election campaign mocked McCain as 'not a war hero' because 'he was captured,' released a statement of support on Wednesday.

If Sen McCain retires, Gov Ducey would appoint someone ( a Repub) to take his place until the next general election which is in 2018. Who ever wins that election would serve out the rest of McCain's term. We could possibly have 2 Senate elections on the ballot in 2018 as Rino Flake is up in 2018

McCain is a globalist piece of shet! Fake war hero. Totally useless war monger, establishment hack, bought and sold by the Saudi's and big business.

Ran an awful presidential campaign. No redeeming value to this country at all

I dislike John in the political arena, he's a huge part of the swamp, a career politician and a poster child for term limits

I hope he recovers and lives for 20 more years, but I'd love to see him resign or get voted out of office

He won the nomination by winning 1/3 of the vote in NH and 1/3 of the vote in SC

Something else that needs to change, these winner take all states, especially when the state is won with 1/3 of the vote

Thompson won McCain the nomination, by attacking Romney in NH and Huckabee in SC, drawing votes from those two camps and putting McCain over the top.

I don't think the system will change despite the fact it needs to, because that's how the swamp can control the game and retain their powers

John McCain's fighter was shot down over enemy territory in October of 1967. During the ejection, he broke his right arm and both legs. He landed in a lake and immediately sank to the bottom because his equipment was so heavy. He was finally released in March of 1970.

You can say what you want about his politics but he is no "fake war hero." The guy endured interrogation and torture for more than 2.5 years in a Vietnamese prison camp.

What have you done for your country?

I'm no John McCain fan from a political perspective, but to call him a "fake war hero" is just plain ignorant.
