Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor tilt headed to movie theaters
Dan Rafael
ESPN Senior Writer
7/25/17

Those who don't feel like forking over the $100 or so for the pay-per-view in order to watch the junior middleweight mega fight between unretiring former pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather and UFC superstar Conor McGregor will have another option: watching it in a movie theater for a lot less.

Fathom Events and Mayweather Promotions announced on Tuesday that they have partnered to bring the Aug. 26 fight, and the accompanying undercard, to movie theaters around the country. The movie theater broadcast of the event (9 p.m. ET), which will take place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, will be identical to what home viewers will see on the Showtime PPV telecast.

"The buzz that my fight against Conor McGregor is getting has been great already, so what better way to watch this larger than life event than on the big screen? We brought boxing back to movie theaters eight years ago and it was a huge success," Mayweather said. "But this event is on a different level and I'm so glad we are giving fans another way to see all the action. Grab your popcorn because this is a fight no one will want to miss."

Fathom Events and Mayweather Promotions have done deals for many of Mayweather's fights to be offered in theaters.

"Mayweather Promotions is very proud of its longstanding partnership with Fathom Events and we're glad to be able to once again bring a Floyd Mayweather fight to movie theaters nationwide," said Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe. "If you can't make it to T-Mobile Arena, but want to feel like you're sitting ringside, watching this mega-event on the big screen will be an experience fans won't want to miss." Ticket prices will vary as they are set by each theater owner, but Fathom Events told ESPN they likely will be around $40 apiece. A list of participating theaters can be found at FathomEvents.com.

"We are excited to once again partner with Mayweather Promotions and all promotional partners to be part of what is shaping up to be the most anticipated matchup in years," Fathom Events vice president of programming Kymberli Frueh said. "Since our first bout broadcast to cinemas, fans of boxing and MMA have come together and enjoyed a larger-than-life ring-side experience on the biggest screens around. This will certainly be one for the history books for fans and all involved."

$40 a ticket at a movie theater. What a fucking disgrace. Go to a bar and pay at the very most, half of that. Or just stream it.

Was pretty shocked to see Floyd -350 to knock down Conor during the fight. But sounds like it's going to happen. It doesn't take much to get dropped in boxing...especially if you don't know what you are doing or what your opponent is doing. He probably gets dropped and falls right on his ass, but gets up immediately.

Also shocked to see floyd +177 or whatever in decision. Makes me think Floyd stops him within 12 rounds. Not a KO, but a stoppage. The ref will come in and stop it after it has gone on enough. Depending on how bad it is. I don't have a round yet of when it ends but that's my prediction. Floyd by stoppage. TKO. Of course it's a month away I'm subject to change possibly but that's what I like right now

I mean real talk, you put these two in a boxing ring.....that is most likely what will happen the very first time they fight. Plus Floyd will want to go out with a bang. and he can't and wont KO him so this is probably what will happen

There's a pub in DC dedicated to GOT?

Are they closing because the bar sucks or what?

Other than huge chain places, Not too many bars will have it because of the massive costs to show a ppv event and most streams will be lag city with the massive traffic.

There is huge monetary incentive for Floyd not to win. A rematch is worth as much as this match and they could even set up a trilogy. Mayweather spends money faster than any human can possibly do. Don't talk about legacy. There is none. This a non-sanctioned match by the boxing authorities. Connor is not ranked by any of the governing bodies. This is WWE at it's finest. These two guys can set this match up to look better than the Bolshoi Ballet. If they could get three matches Connor will have more money than he ever dreamed. His net worth will be higher than any other boxer who has ever fought other than Floyd. If you are wagering on this match as it being legitimate then you must believe they actually saw a lady in half. Only a select few people know what is going to happen. Floyd might have no interest in setting up three big paydays. Would you want to leave hundreds of millions on the table. Don't talk about integrity in boxing. The whole sport is built on bullshit. Dishonest judges, Dishonest promoters, Dishonest refs and Dishonest boxers.

Lol the ufc is no better than boxing when it comes to doing things fair or not rigging shit. Tired of all this talk about boxing isn't legit. Say that to any current boxer and see what they saym. UFC is no more legit than boxing as far as not rigging fights. Period. You are brainwashed. It only sticks out because boxing will rig it for the underdog. And ufc will rig it for whatever truly benefits them and their pockets.

I guarantee you conor mcgregor has benefited from a rigged fight to help the UFC. Not even talking about Aldo

Also in boxing it is easier to notice because they just use their hands. In ufc, it all depends on the fucking judges if the fight is equal. If one dude takes the other guy down a ton, but the other guy dominates while standing up. Who do you give it to?

There is more room for rigging in the ufc. Way easier to do and get away with. Which is why most don't know this or they think ufc is soooo much more legit and fair to bet on. Lmfao

I saw Mayweather/Marquez in the theater. I think that and the Mosley fight were in theaters and then they stopped doing it. I think it was because Floyd signd with Showtime and left HBO. And Showtime didn't want it affecting the buyrate.

But it was like $15-20 bucks, little more than a movie. $40 per head? Gimme a break.
