The horse with the best pre Derby / pre Preakness 1 1/8 mi prep was Hence at 1:48.10 in the Sun Derby. That's fast. But he ate a big chunk of my money when he ran complete clunkers in those races. They laid him up for two months before they brought him back for the Gr 3, Iowa Derby on 7/17. They added blinkers this time and he won easily while making a nice middle move, something I always count as an indication of a horse's fitness. I'm a little gun shy because of all the dough I dropped on him in the 2 Triple Crown races, but I've got to give him one more shot today after adding blinkers and coming back with such a nice prep.
