they really owe the guy more then that

How do you know what the organization has offered him over the years? I've read about several things they've tried to do for/with him, and he refused.

Bartman was mistreated, but he's also an idiot. He could have cashed in huge on his notoriety (especially after they finally won), but chose not to. Talk about playing your hand poorly.

You have no proof what the Cubs actually offered him over they years ... IMO after having your life ruined, a ring 14 years later is basically meaningless.

Haha, of course I don't. Just like you don't have proof that it has been nothing.

What should the organization have done that they didn't do? I'm genuinely curious. If you state that they owe him more, what is it?

Doesn't sound like it was meaningless to him:

“Although I do not consider myself worthy of such an honor, I am deeply moved and sincerely grateful to receive an official Chicago Cubs 2016 World Series Championship ring. I am fully aware of the historical significance and appreciate the symbolism the ring represents on multiple levels. My family and I will cherish it for generations. Most meaningful is the genuine outreach from the Ricketts family, on behalf of the Cubs organization and fans, signifying to me that I am welcomed back into the Cubs family and have their support going forward."

And don’t look for Bartman to be recognized or honored by the Cubs at an upcoming Wrigley Field ceremony.

“That was our choice,” Murtha said. “They were willing to do anything Steve wanted to do under any circumstances.

Not sure where I ever said he wasn't offered anything over the years?

And to answer the question IMO there is nothing to compensate for what he had to go through. Money isn't the answer to some people

OK, so the organization owes him more than a ring, but nothing they could offer would be good enough, and anything they do offer gets turned down.

Tough spot.

I'm not trying to make excuses for the moronic fans that night. I just don't know what further can be done to make it right, and I don't understand the mentality that he is somehow owed more when he refuses everything.

There's no real answer to what would make up for it. Probably nothing.

What's done is done.

His life was ruined and got a ring. Pretty much end of story.

He doesn't have to accept it and he certainly isn't obligated to comment.

Organization is just trying to do something nice for him. Anything. The Cubs were willing to do anything for him, on his terms.

So they do this one thing, he accepts it, and seems to genuinely appreciate the gesture. So what is wrong with that? I'm sure they would do a million times more if he let them.
