Here we go again ..... Seahawks DE Michael Bennett remains seated during national anthem

Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett sat alone on the team's bench during the national anthem as the Seahawks opened the preseason in Los Angeles on Sunday.After the song concluded, Bennett rejoined his teammates on the field who were standing with locked arms

Bennett's silent protest took place one day after Oakland Raiders running back and former teammate Marshawn Lynch remained seated before the Raiders 20-10 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

Like Lynch, Bennett received a mix of hate and praise for his protest.

The move from Bennett doesn't exactly come as a surprise.

The Pro Bowl defensive end has been outspoken about social issues that matter to him before and is currently writing a book called "How to Make White People Uncomfortable."

Bennett is also good friends with 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who began sitting during the national anthem last September. He recently said he believes Kaepernick is being "blackballed" in regard to the fact he has not yet been signed by an NFL team.

Kaepernick worked out for the Seahawks this offseason, but the team later decided to sign Broncos free agent Austin Davis instead.

After Seattle’s 48-17 win, Bennett told reporters he plans to continue sitting during the national anthem and hopes to inspire people to become more involved with social issues in their communities.

“First of all, I want people to understand that I love the military,” Bennett said, via Eric D. Williams of ESPN.com. “My father’s in the military. I love hot dogs like any other American. I love football like any other American. But I don’t love segregation. I don’t love riots or oppression.

“I just want to see people have the equality that they deserve. And I want to be able to use this platform to continuously push the message of that.”
Bennett did not inform his coaches or teammates of his plans to make a political statement during the national anthem, but one Seahawks player told ESPN’s Jim Trotter that he is fine with the decision “as long as Michael is preaching love and not hate.”

“Let people attack me because they don’t believe what I believe in, but at the end of the day, I’m being vulnerable to show every person that no matter [what] you believe in, keep fighting for it,” Bennett said. “Keep fighting for equality. Keep fighting for oppressed people. And keep trying to change society.”

One of Bennett’s former teammates also sat on the bench during the national anthem before his game on Saturday, so we obviously haven’t seen the last of the protests.

I don't have any issues with these protests.

My issue is the premise for the protests is a sham. It's all based on a false narrative.

I agree. The numbers aren't there to back up cops purposely targeting blacks and killing them. There other issues with the criminal justice system though, starting and ending with the war on drugs. Wish these guys would get educated, cause I could get behind some of the real issues that have merit.

There is stuff on the internet about learning from some terrorist fuck to brainwash people to make them kill Americans. This is a free country. You can write racist books in your free time. Eminem made millions off of making fun of gay people. NWA made millions about talking about white cops killing blacks. You can do this type of stuff. Including writing a book. And are all of those guys really racist or hate gays? Think.

Everybody is somewhat racist. Not saying Bennet is not. But his message on WHY he is sitting is broader than black people being gunned down by cops.

You can write that book. But it might not be fully racist. Might just be facts. If it's based on your real life experiences then who am I to say that book is crap.
