Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett won't be the only one to remain seated during the playing of the national anthem this season.
Bennett, who sat alone in protest of racial and social injustices during the team's preseason opener against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, received many comments on Twitter that fans will be joining him in his protest this season.
"@mosesbread72 as a proud season ticket holder, I am proud to announce I will be sitting through the anthem with you all season. #EqualityWins," one fan wrote to Bennett.
The Seahawks defensive end retweeted the post that garnered over 109 retweets and 737 likes.

The Pro Bowl defensive end said he had been considering protesting the national anthem for awhile prior to Sunday's game, but the recent events in Charlottesville, Virginia, where a man drove his car into a group of counterprotesters at a "Unite the Right" rally, sparked him to action.
"With everything that's been going on the last couple of months and especially after the last couple of days, seeing everything in Virginia, seeing what's going on out there earlier today in Seattle, I just wanted to be able to use my platform to be able to continue to speak over injustice," Bennett said following Seattle's preseason win over Los Angeles.
"First of all, I want people to understand I love the military. My father was in the military. I love hot dogs like any other American. I love football like any other American, but I don't love segregation," he added. "I don't love riots. I don't love oppression. I don't love gender slander. I just want to see people have the equality that they deserve, and I want to be able to use this platform to continuously push the message of that, you know, and keep journeying out and keep finding out how unselfish can we be as a society."
Bennett joins former 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who kneeled during the national anthem last season to raise awareness for oppression and racial inequalities. His former teammate Marshawn Lynch also sat during the national anthem during a Raiders preseason game, but has yet to confirm his actions were a part of a protest.
Rams defensive end Robert Quinn and Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins also raised a fist during anthems this week in protest of police brutality and racial oppression.
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll recently told reporters he plans to support Bennett in anyway possible, but thinks "we should all be standing" for the national anthem. Wide receiver Doug Baldwin also said he "absolutely" considered joining Bennett and supports him in his cause.
Bennett said he plans to sit during the national anthem throughout the season.
The Seahawks take on the Vikings on Friday at CenturyLink Field. We already know several fans will be joining Bennett in sitting during the anthem, but we'll have to wait and see if any players sit alongside Bennett on the bench as well.
