'Super Bowl-esque' betting on fight fueled by million-dollar wages

Big bets were coming in fast and furious in the hours leading up Saturday night's fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor, highlighted by two more $1 million bets on the favored boxing champion.

The MGM and South Point sportsbooks each reported taking $1 million bets on Mayweather on Saturday afternoon, driving up the number of reported million-dollar bets on the fight to four, or three more than were reported on Super Bowl LI in Las Vegas.

"It's Super Bowl-esque," Bill Sattler, director of specialty games for Caesars Entertainment, told ESPN in a text message.

Even with the big bets on Mayweather, most sportsbooks were still facing sizable liability on the underdog McGregor. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. PT, Caesars Palace sportsbooks wrote more than 1,200 bets on the fight. Ninety-two percent of those bets were on McGregor.

Four hours before the fight, Mayweather's odds could be found as high as -675 and as low as -500. McGregor was around a 4-1 underdog at most sportsbooks.

The Westgate SuperBook began the day with Mayweather at -700, but had moved the price down to -550 by mid-afternoon. Nevada sportsbooks were estimating that as much as $80 million could bet on the fight state-wide, making it the most heavily bet boxing match ever.

State-wide bets in Nevada on Super Bowl LI between the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons reached $138.4 million.

for those size bets, the line hasn't moved the way it should have. IMO
But Conor is getting a lot of action, just smaller large wagers.

I have to believe the ton of small wagers are coming from the MMA Fan Base over the dying Boxing base.

Floyd just gonna dance and jab and move. I can't imagine him losing at any cost. Be more like a boxer and his sparring partner having a good work out. They both have parties to host afterwards. Lol

$1 million wagers on Floyd-Conor fight stunning Vegas bookmakers

Big bets were coming in fast and furious in the hours leading up to Saturday night's fight between Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor, highlighted by two more $1 million bets on the favored boxing champion.

The MGM and South Point sportsbooks each reported taking $1 million bets on Mayweather on Saturday afternoon. The Wynn sportsbook also revealed that it had taken two million-dollar bets on Mayweather on Friday, according to executive director Johnny Avello.

That brings the number of reported million-dollar bets on the fight to six-- or five more than were reported in Las Vegas for February's Super Bowl LI.

The amount of money being wagered on the fight was stunning bookmakers. By late Saturday afternoon, more bets had been placed on just Conor McGregor at William Hill's Nevada sportsbooks than were placed on the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LI, according to vice president of marketing Michael Grodsky.

Twice as much money had been bet on Mayweather-McGregor than had been bet on Mayweather-Pacquaio at William Hill. The 2015 Mayweather-Pacquiao fight was the most heavily bet boxing match ever in Nevada, generating an estimated $60 million in handle.

Even with the big bets on Mayweather, most sportsbooks were still facing sizable liability on the underdog McGregor. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. PT Saturday, Caesars Palace sportsbooks wrote more than 1,200 bets on the fight. Ninety-two percent of those bets were on McGregor.

Four hours before the fight, Mayweather's odds could be found as high as -675 and as low as -500. McGregor was around a 4-1 underdog at most sportsbooks.

The Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook began the day with Mayweather at -700, but had moved the price down to -550 by midafternoon. Nevada sportsbooks were estimating that as much as $80 million could be bet on the fight statewide, making it the most heavily bet boxing match ever.

Statewide bets in Nevada on Super Bowl LI between the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons reached $138.4 million.

Yeah if you see where the -400s are then post them if you can. I just see -450s.

I wish there was a way to track the props online, would like to know best place that has floyd via stoppage

edit: the -400 is William Hill. Do they even have actual books in the city or is that just the app?
