A strange thing goes on in Texas when football starts back up. It just somehow magically seems cooler outside, even though it isn't. It can still be damn near 100 degrees, but the sights and sounds of football season revive images in my head of cooking chili all day, leaves turning brown, etc...

I still have mixed feeling about last season. If you count pushes as non-losses, I ended up around even. Better than losing money I suppose. As always, week 1s are pretty much a waste of time. I just don't care enough about week 1 to really do the footwork, so I usually just kind of roll with what I learned about the teams last season, which usually returns a piss poor result. Nonetheless, here is what I going with for week 1.

HOU -5 -Both Houston and Jacksonville sucked last season on offense. Houston showed some promise on defense and Jacksonville didn't. Houston will never succeed without a decent QB, and I think they have never had one. Strange thing at play here, the home team is recovering from potentially its worst disaster ever, while the road team may be about to experience their own. What a gift for the media, you could not have bought a better story line.

AZ -1 -Cards and Lions had similar defensive numbers in last seasons campaign, but AZ took the offensive categories. I understand AZ may not shine on the road, but I feel the spread is too small.

WAS +1.5 -I think the skins win outright. Maybe by one point, or a late FG. 27-24 maybe.

PHI@WAS >47.5 -I think the game stays tight until the end. Maybe it goes to OT. A tie would be funny.

Not a whole lot to go on, but I like these. I may hate them by Sunday night. Oh yeah, lest I forget to make fun of Jerry Jones every week... should be fun to see how that old lima bean lookin mofo handles Zeke "allegedly" being a 5 time woman beater that for now has to ride pine for 6 games after week 1.
