Penalties

I've been watching the preseason, and they are calling penalties like crazy. Looks like the league wants to rid the game of stick to anywhere but puck. There's going to be lots of penalties this year, which could maybe lead to more overs if the books or the players don't adjust.

I agree 100%! I was watching the Rangers game a few hours ago & they already had 6 power play opportunities & it was only the 2nd period!

I agree, and I just saw a faceoff infraction penalty called. Evidentally that's gonna be a big focus this year. Warning a guy one time about staying in the white on face offs and not crossing the line, second time is a penalty. Should be interesting.

League wants to take full advantage of not participating in the olympics. Expecting a lot of high scoring affairs this season.

I'm disappointed in that. We can finally bet the olympics legally here in it not going to be pros. But on the bright side I guess that just means there will be more hockey to bet on.

I'm not buying into that aspect. They are constantly trying to tweak the game in small increments. The Olympics factor purely coincidental.

NHL has done things like this for years - and at the beginning of the season there may be some differences. However, what it seems is that the refs usually revert back to old form after some time. Plus, any line value will be priced out very quickly.

I like the crack down on the slashing. It’s a lazy penalty to begin with and only ends up putting good players on the I.R.
