NEW YORK -- NBA commissioner Adam Silver said Thursday he expects players to stand for the national anthem, which is a league rule.

He wants them to remain active in their communities and take part in what can be difficult discussions, but he says they understand it's important to show respect for the flag.

Silver didn't say what would happen if any players refuse to stand, adding: "If that were to happen, we'll deal with it when it happens."

here's the bullshit about this protest crap. Scan the fans instead of the players during any of these games. I saw a pic earlier today where you could see 24 fans in the background of the pic. 13 of those 24 were either looking at their phones, had the arms crossed or hands in their pockets during the anthem.

That's wrong people do that shit IMO...it's 2.5 minutes you sit there, listen and look at the flag.
I spent many days/nights over the last 4 years watching my nephew play division 3 hoops and even at these tiny schools the anthem had everyone's attention during that time.

that's fine.. Fans aren't paying or spending their time watching fans.. Their watching and paying to watch the teams and players.. If fans want to turn away from all of this , they have every right.. no doubt you're going to get a decent amount of disrespectful fans sitting down.. They paid for their ticket.. what are you going to do ?

so wait, you're saying that because people are watching the players that its somehow more disrespectful then when a fan does it? I stand up with my hand over my heart when I go to a game, however, It really doesn't bother me if some random fan or a player doesn't. and i certainly am not going to say a player is being more disrespectful because a camera is on him but not the fans

of course it is still disrespectful, fan, player, is irrelevant. But one is on the TV screen the other isn't. If TV networks only showed the fans disrespecting the anthem, people would call and complain to the networks.
