LaVar Ball, the father of Lakers rookie Lonzo and UCLA freshman LiAngelo, announced a major decision in the basketball development of his youngest son, LaMelo.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, LaVar told the paper that he will be pulling LaMelo out of his high school at Chino Hills (Calif.) and will train him for the next two seasons. LaVar says that his son, who is committed to UCLA, still intends to play for the Bruins in two years.
Via The Times:

"I'm going to make him the best basketball player ever," LaVar said.
He continued:
"It's good for Melo," LaVar said. "Less distractions. He just needs to focus."

The decision to take LaMelo out of Chino Hills comes after last season's 30-3 season was plagued with infighting between the team, then-head coach Stephan Gilling and LaVar. Gilling was fired after the season, and LaVar continued to have issues with the new coach Dennis Latimore.
Ball said of Latimore in August:

"There's about to be new drama," Ball said Thursday. "I don't like him one bit."

LaMelo broke onto the scene as among the biggest names in high school sports with his 92-point performance and his own signature shoe from LaVar's Big Baller Brand. An AAU game between LaMelo and top-recruit Zion Williamson drew over a million views on internet streams.

I watched the video of the game where he got 92 points. It's a complete joke, he (rarely) ever crossed half-court to
play defense, but just stood on the offensive side waiting for lobs for lay-ups. I don't remember seeing him play
one defensive play the whole game.

this actually is a smart move.. he needs to train and work on his individual .. the 3 hours he loses in a team practice can be way better used training
on his skills and body ( his body especially) without worrying about being sore the following so unable to go gard in the gym,,,,

he already has a scholarship in place , this is the best use of the next 3 months of his time

i believe that mob called lavar a "roll model". hmm. lol

Bahahaha

A very odd role model. But nah I watched their reality show on youtube. You can't tell me that he's not a good guy. Dude does it all. Cooks, has lamelo playing 3 vs 3 outside, has someone watching to keep score, and he takes care of his wife who had a stroke.

I think Lavar sees it like whatever he does he will make it work. For the last 10 years, AAU ball has been more valued than high school basketball
