[h=1]Winless Giants now have same Super Bowl odds (300-1) as Jets[/h]
The betting public could not get enough of the New York Giants in the offseason.
The G-Men have not lived up to those expectations.

By mid-August at the Westgate SuperBook in Las Vegas, only three teams -- the Oakland Raiders, Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys -- had attracted more bets to win the Super Bowl than the Giants. At 12-1, New York began the season with better Super Bowl odds than the defending NFC champion Atlanta Falcons.

One month later, the Giants find themselves with the same odds of winning the Super Bowl as the New York Jets at 300-1.

The Giants fell to 0-5 with Sunday's loss to the Los Angeles Chargers and saw star receiver Odell Beckham Jr. suffer a fractured left ankle.
Oddsmakers estimate Beckham is worth 1-3 points to the betting line. The Giants were listed as 6-point underdogs to the Denver Broncos in an early line posted before the Beckham injury. When the Westgate reopened betting on this week's game at Denver, the Giants were 10.5-point underdogs.

"I don't know if the Giants will be favored in another game this year," a sportsbook manager for Caesars Palace told ESPN.

Beckham missed the season opener against the Cowboys, dealing with an injury to the same ankle. Without him, the Giants' offense managed just 233 total yards in a 19-3 loss to the Cowboys.

"He's probably one of the most impactful players, non-quarterbacks, to the line in the league," said Jason Simbal, vice president of risk for Las Vegas sportsbook operator CG Technology. "We've already seen what they look like without him."

In addition to Beckham, receivers Sterling Shepard, Brandon Marshall and Dwayne Harris also left Sunday's game with injuries, adding to the early disappointment for the Giants, who drew consistent support from bettors in the offseason. At MGM's sportsbooks, the Giants' season-win total opened at 8.5 and was bet up to 9. The Giants were bet down from 25-1 to 12-1 to win the Super Bowl at the Westgate this summer.

"It wasn't big money. It was almost all smaller bets, but it was just a steady stream of action [on the Giants]," Ed Salmons, assistant manager at the Westgate, said. "It just kept coming and wouldn't stop, no matter how much I lowered their odds."

I LOVE betting the Jets in their matchups. Besides the last game, they have been a 1 score games for like 5 years...

Jets (+9.5) or Pats?

Who would have thought this question would be asked in week 6.

You could look at this match up in multiple ways.

Of course the JETS have beaten the Pats before. it's not like they can't beat them again.

But as we all know, the Pats are a better team than the Jets.

the Pats slightly improved on Defense last game vs. TB, so maybe they are better this week ??
The Jets are playing good ball ( I said good ball, not Great ) but their defense is better than the Pats
and mistakes by the Pats could help the Jets.

I would take the Jets at +9.5 at home

If Gronk is a no go, I would throw a small amount on the Jets ML for kicks

9.5? The advance line was like 14. Pats gonna stomp that. I don't know how it is under 10.

How is the Jets D better? They had 3 good games vs Bortles/Kizer and Cutler who looks miserable. They gave up 42 points to the Raiders and 200 rushing yards to the Bills.

Meanwhile everyone the Pats have played looks better after they've played them, thus making those losses/close games likely not be as bad. Panthers, Texans, Chiefs, Saints.

Pats gonna have the long week of preparation. Gronk should be back.

It's likely gonna be ugly. If you told me a few weeks ago that this would be the 4th highest spread of week 6 I would've thought you had CTE.

Jets rank #26 and the pats rank #32
so Yes the Jets have a Better Defense

Why would you just go by raw ranking to determine that? The Pats have had a way tougher schedule and have likely underachieved on D.

And even with their struggles, they basically shutdown Tampa and New Orleans on the road as far as points scored goes. The Jets got bombed by Oakland and struggled @ Buffalo. Other than that they've played creampuffs. Some of the worst offenses in the NFL.

I'm just going by the Rankings the NFL puts out there. I know the Pats have had a tougher schedule.

also that Early line you put up was based on NE being Healthy . once they lost Edelman and lost the Home openers like they did, those lines have
been adjusted.

I think a Healthy Gronk would have made the opening week line of 10.5, instead of the 9.5

on Paper this should be a blow out. But I have a feeling the Jets keep it close

I wasn't referring to before the season. The Westgate advanced line was -13.5 a few weeks ago. Then the Jets won all these games vs nobodies and the Pats had some close games vs teams way better than the Jets. Now the line is 9.5.

I understand why it moved below 10. Because the Pats D and OL has struggled mightily and the Jets look mediocre rather than like the worst team in the league.

But what I'm saying is I don't think that is warranted because I think the Jets are still 1 of the worst 2 or 3 teams in the league and the Pats are 1 of the best 2 or 3.

Thus I think -9.5 is value. But we'll see what happens.

The best 2 or 3 ?? you mean they are the 2nd or 3rd Best in the League ???

The Patriots?

You think that's a hot take? The betting markets have them as top 3 in the league still. Biggest fav to win the SB, ELO, FPI, most Vegas power rankings still have them very high.

Even behind 3 games (including tiebreaker) from KC they are still the favs to win the AFC.

If you wanna say KC, GB are better I'm not gonna wanna debate it too much but clearly NE being in the ballpark of the elite teams is still consensus in the free world.

The odds mean nothing to me at this point.
They are at low odds because they are the Pats and always seem to be there.

My 2 cents, Philly are better right now.

If you think the Pats are overvalued by the oddsmakers that's fine, then just bet against them until the market corrects and they are no longer being priced as a top 3 team.

But obviously me saying they are a top 2-3 team isn't much of a outlandish statement when it is still consensus opinion.

And if Philly/NE were playing on a neutral field this weekend, you would snap take Philly there? Ehh, I dunno if I'm buying that 1.

Well between Jets this week and Falcons next week you'll definitely get a healthy fill of fading them.

Fwiw...

Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski, shown lunging as part of warmups, is present for the start of today’s practice.

I don't think this moves the line though. Was pretty much known that his sitting out last week was more precautionary so already was factored in. I guess a few of his friends in Miami went to the game and were expecting him to play. That's how last minute it was.

maybe you could add this to the mix

[h=1]Tom Brady absent from start of practice ahead of Week 6[/h]
The New England Patriots were missing Tom Brady during the media portion of practice on Tuesday, according to reporters on the scene.

The Patriots will not be releasing an injury report on Tuesday, and instead will wait until Wednesday. The Patriots can allow Brady a day of rest without disclosing what issue - if any - he's resting.

Brady, who has not appeared on the injury report this season, had gotten hit 33 times and sacked 16 times so far in the 2017 season.

Eric Rowe, who has been nursing a groin injury throughout the season, was also missing from practice. He did not play in Week 5 after aggravating the injury in during the third quarter of the Patriots' Week 4 game.

The Patriots play the New York Jets on Sunday. The two teams are tied with the Buffalo Bills for the top spot in the AFC East.

Steve Hewitt @steve_hewitt

Tom Brady was not spotted on the field for the media portion of today's Patriots practice. Eric Rowe is also absent.

I remember the Giants starting something like 0-5 a few years ago and still had a chance to win the division in week 12 or something. Don't see that happening this year though. Anyone remember that?

never mind Big Ben, what about Eli?

Is he washed up? although I'll concede it'll be hard to tell when he's washed up :)

Maybe the Giants better think about drafting a top QB next year
