I rarely play slots. Damn sure never hit a jackpot. Was having an argument
about IRS withholdings.

I say say it’s similar to hitting a signer trifecta in horse racing that you need an Official ID and social security card to get paid off
from the casino. I’ve had to go home and get my SS card before on horses. My buddy says no SScsrd needed for slot jackpots. WTF? so I can just give a fake number for the 1099 form?
Has anyone hit a jackpot and is this true?

I won a small slot tournament ($1500). I had to sign a form for the 1099, but no SS card was required.

If you hit a jackpot of $600 or more, the casino will send you a W2G. The casino will make a copy of your drivers license and take down all of the information on it. Yes, you can give a false ssn but that false ssn will be on your W2G along with your correct address.

Its your choice if you want to claim the income w/ your incorrect ss#.

However the IRS could always send a letter to the casino informing them that they have an incorrect social. This could happen a few months to a few years down the road. If they eventually get your social, then you're going to have to pay the taxes plus penalty.

Much easier to claim the gambling winnings and deduct the gambling losses (if you itemize)

I was told last night from a casino cage manager that the first time you cash a jackpot at their casino you need a valid ID or passport and SS card. Then all you need is ID cause your already in their system. I guess it varies.

I won a jackpot that required reporting at both CT casinos. Both required ID, neither required a social security card

PS: The jackpot was the fire play at a craps table

Worked in a casino for 6 years and this is wrong. You only need a valid ID as others have stated.

I thought the number was $1,200 before you get a W2g, at least $1,200 is the number for video poker because I hit $1,000 royals and never get one.

I wish I won a six number fire bet recently. Both hits were years ago, maybe 6 to 10

Maybe every casino is different?? The Seminole Indian tribe in Florida issues them on $600. I think Florida lottery does them on $1k

I thought it was that way in Vegas as well. I've seen jackpots set at $1199 to purposely avoid the $1200 level that requires a W2g.

It's $600 or more if u win 300x that wager. If not, then it's $1,200 or more.

For those with players cards, many casinos will give a win/loss statement as well

I never touch slots, but would imagine having dual citizenship would be a benefit here.

If you show a foreign passport, it’s my understanding no taxes can be taken out of winnings.

Quite the opposite my friend. Casinos are required to withhold 35% from the winnings of foreign nationals. Although I'm citing the general rule which I learned about because it happened to my relatives from Italy. It's plausible our tax treaty with Canada specifically exempts gambling winnings from withholdings.

I know the hard Rock in Hollywood only gives them for 1,200 and above for video poker. Never heard of getting one for a 600 slot win.
