SANTA CLARA — Forty Niners fans won’t have to wait until the offseason to find out who the team’s next quarterback will be.

And they won’t have to justify a big salary for Kirk Cousins or bear through the growing pains of a high first round pick next year, either.
The 49ers’ quarterback of the future was acquired via trade on Monday. His name is Jimmy Garoppolo.
In a shock move a day before the NFL’s Tuesday trade deadline, the 49ers landed Tom Brady’s backup in exchange for a 2018 second-round pick. And in the process, 49ers’ head coach Kyle Shanahan has officially started his rebuild in Santa Clara.

Brady must be looking good for the next couple of years.

The Pats gotta bye week so it gives them a bit of time to sign Kapernick [or someone else] and get him to read the playbook.

Kapernick has already said he will stand for the anthem, "as things have improved", so should all be good. He's still probably the best QB available, and has playoff experience.

The QBs in this draft aren't special.

They had to trade Garoppolo now or risk losing him for nothing.

SF basically "drafted" a QB in the 2nd round, and can now either draft the best player available or trade down with a team wanting to trade up for a QB. Good move for both teams.
