is it just me or do others feel that Roberts is hurting the dodgers
by over-managing and micro-managing?

I saw 1 bad move....Taking out Rich Hill after 4 innings....Trailing 1-0.....3 hits....7 K's....51 pitches.

That was a stupid move.

All world took a beating last night.....And his unhittable closer blew 2 games.

Can't blame Roberts....Not me

Jansen was suppose to close out game 2.....He gave up a game tying homer in the 9th.

Last night he got walked off.

He's the Dodgers Goat thus far IMO

But as great as Jansen was this year it's pretty clear he can't get 6 outs.

Being asked to to do something out of the norm.

6 outs can be a bit of a problem......He should still be able to get it done.

The 9th inning of game 2 is the turning point of the series.....Coming into the 9th inning he threw only 15 pitches....Not a lot.

He has to get those 3 outs and they lead the series 2-0.

And that home run was off a 0-2 pitch.....That made it even worse.

There are reports out there that he is just doing what upper management wants him to do. They ran off Don Mattingly because he wanted to manage, so if true the shots are coming from above.

I hate this "yank my starter after 40 pitches if I have the lead, and race to my closer as early as the 7th inning" mentality. It's not the game they play all summer.

So I just love to see it fail.

Get ready for more of this . A big reason I feel Girardi was let go.

I was told by a sharp friend that the dodgers and Roberts are FULLY committed to analytics.
he said Roberts used the data very effectively during the regular season; however during
the postseason his judgement as whether to embrace the data or use his eyes along with thinking
about the big picture (winning the series rather winning the at bat) has not been optimal.
he also found it curious that Brandon mcCarthy was put on the active WS roster.

Because during the summer there is a tomorrow that you have to be concerned with. You can't just stress your entire bullpen in the middle of August to win a few games.

When you've got 5-10 games before the season is over then to put yourself in the best chance to get out of every inning and hope the season ends with a world series does seem to be the optimal strategy. The innings are completely fungible, if you have good pitchers that can get you out of tough innings, you should use them then and not wait until the 8th or 9th inning.

Yes, I grasp why they do it. Doesn't mean I have to like it.

I just think it's gotten a little out of hand, so I'd like to see the overuse of the bullpen backfire so maybe there is a shift back towards normal.

Do you think it is by and large optimal game theory?

I'm sure sometimes managers overdo it but the concept seems pretty sound. Even if it makes for a disjointed and non-traditional type of game.

Hard to say. We've only seen the widespread application of this phenomenon recently.

I think teams that overdo it end up with a gassed bullpen and it comes back to bite them. Same with teams that overuse their ace starters (see Cleveland last year, tried to squeeze 3 starts out of Kluber and he was gassed in the 3rd one). Big picture I think the better strategy is buiilding depth in the bullpen and starting staff, so your guys can remain fresh through the postseason.
