Republican politician accused of molesting children resigns from Indianapolis City Council

A Republican politician in Indianapolis resigned on Friday after he was accused of molesting two girls at his home.
Jeffrey Miller, 50, a city-county councilman who represented District 16, was arrested and charged with three felony counts of child molestation.
A 10-year-old girl told her father about the inappropriate touch after watching a TV report on Harvey Weinstein, according to court documents cited by the IndyStar.
She told investigators Miller massaged her, patted her butt and touched her under her clothes and “where the legs meet the groin,” according to court documents.


Another girl told investigators Miller grabbed her butt when he gave her a piggy-back ride.
Miller, who said he kept a basket filled with massage tools at his home, acknowledged giving the girls massages and touching them during games but denied it was sexual.
“I defer to (the children). If I’ve done something they’re uncomfortable with ... perception is reality,” Miller told investigators.

His resignation from the council is effective Monday. Miller, a widowed father of a 10-year-old boy, was first elected in 2011 and reelected in 2015.
