he British publicist who set up a meeting between senior Trump campaign figures and a Kremlin-linked Russian lawyer says he exaggerated an email promising damaging information about Hillary Clinton.

Rob Goldstone also said he had accepted invitations to meet federal investigators examining allegations of Russian collusion with Donald Trump’s election team.

In an interview with The Sunday Times, he said he was keen to set the record straight about his role in introducing Mr Trump’s son, Donald Jr, and other officials to a lawyer promising to “incriminate Hillary and her dealings with Russia” with “official documents”.

Mr Goldstone, who is currently writing a book in Thailand, said he was not part of any plot to influence the election.

“If I’m guilty of anything, and I hate the word guilty, it’s hyping the message and going the extra mile for my clients. Using hot-button language to puff up the information I had been given,” he said.

Mr Goldstone said he had no idea he would end up at the centre of an international scandal a year after sending the fateful email.

The former journalist was working for a Russian oligarch, Aras Agalarov, and his pop singer son, Emin, who had appeared with Mr Trump during the 2013 Miss Universe pageant in Moscow.

He said Emin asked him to reach out to the Trump campaign with an offer of help.

The email to Donald Jr, which was sent in June 2016, said: “This is obviously very high level and sensitive information but is part of Russia and its government's support for Mr Trump - helped along by Aras and Emin.”

Mr Trump Jr responded minutes later saying: “If it's what you say, I love it.”

Six days later he met Natalia Veselnitskaya.

The meeting has emerged as one of the key moments for investigators as they examine who knew what in the Trump campaign about Russian efforts to sway the election

Also in the room at Trump Tower in New York were Paul Manafort, the then campaign manager, Jared Kushner, Mr Trump’s son-in-law, and Rinat Akhmetshin, a Russian-American lobbyist.

But Mr Goldstone insisted he was not part of a Russian plot to influence the election.

“When people said that, I thought it was the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard,” he said.

“That doesn’t mean that maybe there wasn’t any Russian interference or Trump campaign collusion in other ways. I don’t know. But I’m sure I wasn’t part of it.”

Aaahhh yes the story of the month for July . You can't help but laugh at the desperation and stupidity .

Remember these comments from the Fucking idiots ?

We're now beyond obstruction of justice,” US Sen. and former Democratic vice presidential nominee
Tim Kaine said. “This is moving into perjury, false statements, and even into potentially treason.” Richard Painter, President George W. Bush’s White House ethics lawyer, declared on MSNBC that Trump Jr.'s behavior "borders on treason" even before the worst revelations about the incidents came out. Rep. Seth Moulton(D-MA) commented, “If this isn’t treasonous, I’m not sure what is.”

And yet the beat goes on just like Global Warming. If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it.
