Ahead of SCOTUS Hearing, Momentum Continues to Grow for Legalized, Regulated Sports Betting
By Geoff Freeman, President, American Gaming Association
November 30, 2017

On Monday, December 4, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on New Jersey’s challenge (Christie v. National Collegiate Athletic Association) to the constitutionality of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) of 1992. This law effectively bans traditional sports betting outside of Nevada.

AGA has aggressively supported New Jersey’s petition to the Court, including filing our own amicus brief and recruiting some of the 20 states that sided with New Jersey.

In recent weeks, we have driven increased attention to this important issue, participating in forums in New York and Washington, D.C. and shaping the media narrative to ensure our industry’s position is reaching key influencers.

Below is a sampling of recent, high profile coverage that supports our call to bring sports betting out of the shadows, and allow states and tribal sovereign nations the ability to decide if they will introduce legal, regulated sports betting.

We will be inside the Courtroom on Monday, and will provide additional insight to you about the oral arguments and potential outcomes following the hearing.

This is an exciting time for the casino gaming industry and the AGA is committed to securing this multi-billion dollar growth opportunity.
