Is this a new accepted thing?

Had one of my employees do this today. After 3 years with the company. Quits by text with no two week notice or anything.

What self respecting man texts his boss that he's quitting?

But now I'm reading online that this is pretty common these days? Wtf

As you get older and have experience working in large companies....it doesn't really matter how you quit anymore. I've seen employees with 30 years in a company basically be shit canned. Loyalty gets you no where anymore, 2 weeks notice is horseshit nowadays

I've never seen that. Not even sure how you could do that in a big company unless you are friends with HR and have their cell phone.

But I think two weeks notice is dumb anyway, companies can fire you whenever they want, why do you need to give two weeks notice. Although I would give two weeks notice since you can coast for another two weeks of work of extra pay

Great thread. Burning bridges is the one thing I would Agree on. It just depends on a case by case. Justin where you on good terms with this guy?
did u even know him ?

Company I work at is about 50 people and I'm directly under the owner. So all 49 report to me and I know some more than others of course. I was on great terms with this guy, was one of my best managers. I basically groomed him and guided him to the position he's in. The text is def a slap in the face but I'm more embarrassed for him than anything else.

I'll say again. Never ever burn bridges. Life tends to go full circle. Respect and gratitude go a long way when paths inevitably cross again.

Is he switching industries completely? If that is the case, it probably won't matter. Otherwise, dumb move by him

GOD I hate that cocksukker... lolol

My 1 thought is that you must be a horrible boss.. lol... omg just messing with ya man.. but the 1 thing your leaving out of the explanation is, how many hours a week did he work? 60-70??
Super high stress???

The only thing that typically makes an employee go sideways is your treating them horribly? Or work conditions are horrible?? Or their personal life has had a complete implosion...

Good luck man...
For what it's worth, this is the busiest time of the year for me, and I had to interview all Nov. And hire a new girl last week. Ugh...
Training is rough..

Not sure what he's doing but he's been in this business for 20 years I would be pretty stunned if he's switching industries.

Quitting like That sounds like a prick move. Totally agree he will regret it someday. He will need a reference later on in life and realize what he did

Do things with class. In the end you will be happier with yourself and your life. And others will be happy with you too.

Cheap move by that guy.
