by declining a penalty call in the final two minutes ??

of course the pick bailed him out. But....

Quinn’s Atlanta Falcons were leading the Saints 20-17 with under two minutes to go. The Saints had the ball in a 3rd and 1 situation at the Falcons 24 with 1:55 left and threw an incomplete pass. However, New Orleans was called for holding, which could have pushed them back to a 3rd and 11 from the 34.

Guess what happened? Quinn declined the penalty, giving New Orleans a 4th-and-inches situation. Sean Payton of course chose to go for it, and Drew Brees converted with a quarterback sneak. The Saints quickly moved the ball to the 11 and looked like they were going to take the lead and potentially win on a touchdown, but Brees was intercepted by Jones in the end zone on an incredible leaping catch.

Another coach making big brain moves.

Guy single-handedly gave the Pats the extra chance they needed in the Superbowl by not securing a field goal. You know Billicheat would've done the exact opposite; ie, the common sense and intelligent move.

so dumb....3 and 11 (which pushes the FG attempt back also) or 4th and inches.

THEN after the Saints convert he starts stopping the clock?? Why...it's a 3 point game and they have a chippy for the tie. Should have made the decision right there to win it in OT.
Let the clock run and put the Saints on the clock. Your only goal at that point was to keep them out of the endzone.

He got very lucky.

I couldn't believe when he declined that......he's the only coach that does that, boneheaded call. With Ryan's 3 picks, its was a disaster on Atlanta's part, & they should have lost, the miracle pick by Atlanta's defense on Bree's only pick thrown when it counted for Atlanta.

Xmas eve, Atlanta gets destroyed up in the super dome.

I have never seen more players get hurt in a single game .

Im not being a homer by saying the saints lost because of injuries .

I don't have time to fact check it, but heard on the radio coming in on Wingo/Golic that statistically there are no more injuries on Thursdays.

Maybe that's where the comment above came from.

Now I don't know what to believe.

You should definitely be stopping the clock for a potential re-draw after the Saints get that 1st down. Especially indoors in perfect conditions with a good offense. You can get into FG range in like 25 seconds.

You can't really put the Saints on the clock with that much time left and where the ball was, time wasn't an issue for them.

Yeah, agreed that was correct. Declining the penalty was bad though. Clock management at the end of the 1H was bad too, not sure if that is on Quinn or Ryan.

dumb head coach, choke qb, and drunk oc....recipe for disaster. couple of those ints, falcons were shredding the defense with the run yet after a nice first down run, throw throw throw. 2 of those turned into ints.

Head coach gave away the Superbowl last year. Absolute fucking joke clown coaching. One of the things that separates trash coaches from Bellicheat is that Bellicheat understand basic fucking math.

I would have stopped the clock if I was losing. But in that situation I wouldn’t help the Saints. Kinda like belichick did in the Seahawks Super Bowl I would have let it run. Didn’t matter either way in this situation as Bree’s threw the pick.

Saints players haven't been hit like that all year. They were all like.....damn get me out of this game.....haha.

Also maybe Quinn played the game correctly. If he took the penalty then they probably wouldn't have gotten the first. I think he was banking on Brees throwing the pick in the endzone.

It did seem like a dumb call to decline the penalty. I can only think of one reason why they'd decline it, here's my theory....

because the Falcon's coach thought that the Saints would kick a field goal on fourth down. The coach figured if they do make the field goal, the game would only be tied. If they miss it, game over. However, you give them 3rd down, they will try to keep moving the ball down to get a touchdown, which would give them the lead. Of course the Saints went for it and made the first down. So it does seem like a dumb call on the Falcons to decline it, but if the Falcon's coach was thinking that the Saints was going to try for a field goal on 4th down, then one can see why he declined the penalty.
