I went to stuff some 5 dollar bills into a gift for my nephew this morning. The bills were almost brand new. The weird part is the serial numbers are significantly raised.....almost like they are braille. I cant find anything that says they are counterfeit. I can see the indicators when I hold it up to the light. I think they are real.

Is it just because they are new? Is it a flaw from the mint that might make them more valuable?

Maybe I never noticed because I usually only have one's in my wallet.

Brand new bills kind of feel a little raised

as far as counterfeit, not sure they would waste their time on doing $5 bills

it would mean turning a $1 bill into a $5 bill

Here are some new features on the $5 bills, and i would say if they have the two things, they are ok

Security features can help you to tell if a 5 dollar bill is fake or real. There are two watermarks on the redesigned 5 dollar bill. A large numeral 5 watermark is located to the right of the portrait, replacing the previous portrait watermark of President Abraham Lincoln found on older design $5 bills.
