what are the rules as far as buying a game from say 3 to 2.5, what are the books doing these days ? thanks

I always buy them costs .10 but worth it IMO

Pretty much never worth it. There are a few circumstances where I will do it.

When it only costs 10 cents to get off 14 either way in NCAAF.
Last leg of a 3+ team parlay, might buy 1.5 or 2 to make it easier to hedge if I want to.
I think 5 is an underrated key number in basketball, I will buy onto or off of 5 sometimes for 10c.

You will be much better off never buying a half a point.

This is true.

Especially to OP's question of coming off 3, they make it so damn expensive you're better off playing the ML.

Usually 20 cents (-2.5 -130 instead of -3 -110)
