I am posting this here because busy forum and I had to get this off my chest. I hope the mods allow this and perhaps can get some feedback from the people on here.

The people in this community there is clearly a sense of commrodary and support. Everyone understands what we go through- the highs and he lows. The lucky wins, tough losses, bad beats and everything in between. Outside this community though, that in my experience is the opposite.

i wanted to ask what is your experience when you talk to people about betting to non bettors or "friends" when you have a big play?? I NEVER talk about my bets to my non wagering friends, except for this one occasion that had six months of anticipation behind it.

For me- It was the NCAA CFB game. I shared with a few friends a pic of my betting ticket that I placed back in August for Alabama to win the National Title. Was +300 so $1000 paying $3000. I'm not a high roller so, for me this was the biggest win of my life.

Now perhaps I have shitty friends. They are unhappy with their lives, jobs, not a lot of money, nasty wife or whatever. But I just felt like my experience tended to have a palpable vibe of negativity, even hostility that is masked on surface with phony support. I was getting dick texts at half like, "Down 13 bro. Not looking good" like you don't think I know that? Then when game ends no congrats; a snarky comment about how Georgia should have had an Int and how lucky I was. Followed by a vibe of distancing themselves from contact since. For me it's like, I get it, most people just aren't happy for your success. Human nature I guess? It was a wake up call that these (two) guys really aren't friends and deep down would revel in my loss or any adverse life event for that matter in general, I truly believe.

Can anyone else relate to this? Thank so for taking the time to read. Best regards,

I never talk to friends or relatives that don't gamble about football bets unless its the super bowl, cuz they all watch it & a lot of them get together & have a SB party. Other than that, its nobody's business how you're doing......there's always a nosy friend or relative that loves it when you lose, so if you're asked, just say I know nothing, lol.

Unless I'm with my brother, 2 cousins & some friends that live to wager on football, I don't talk about it. On here, we all are gamblers, so its all good.

See bold text above... you nailed it... most people suck... even some "friends" suck...if it doesn't help them, there is no real interest...and no one would be happy for you.. whats in it for them!! right?!?!?!

I don't have a lot of friends who like to bet, just a few, and those are the ONLY ones i talk betting with... my wife thinks the whole betting thing is absurd, and doesn't understand it.. I tried to explain it to her but i would have a better chance of explaining why i love betting to a piece of drift wood... right over her head, with a glazed look...she just doesn't get it... but that's ok...I love her anyway... (of course my daughters get it!!)

At the RX, we all have each other for support and to have meaningful discussions, share info, and enjoy this hobby..!! congrats on you win buddy... good luck moving forward...

I was on the wrong end of one of many Aaron Rodgers game winning miracle Hail Marys to blow the cover and a non-betting (at the time) buddy laughed and said something to the effect of how awesome it was and to never bet against Rodgers. It infuriated me. The same buddy now bets and I would make dick comments about his losses for awhile. I stopped once he realized he should adopt an “us vs. the book” mentality.

Outside of that, another buddy who doesn’t bet will always say something like “see that’s why I don’t bet” whenever I tell him about a bet and we’re watching the game together. He doesn’t say it in a malicious way, but he also doesn’t get that it’s fucking annoying to hear when you’re losing actual money.

If you think a $3,000 windfall brings out the worst in people, imagine if you had won the lottery.

How about when you have a huge play on a team and a friend with no $$ on the game is cheering HARD for the other team knowing fare well you have huge money on the opposite team!?! Haha true story during natty champ game... luckily I had Georgia +3.5 and they didnt kick the xp

But I think it is human nature for others to be jealous of your success... truly genuine people are hard to find. I can probably only count on one hand the friends in my life that are genuinely happy for me and I’ve known these guys since we were kids.

Yes you are not alone, it is common that non-wagering people do not understand this "world" at all, will often be very insensitive (even dickheads) about games that you lose, and jealous/strange about games you win.
Rarely should you mention that you wager on a game, other than a Super Bowl or Natl Championship when you are actually together, but only if they ask. Avoid if possible.

You never truly know sports if you don't wager. So, many times I have bet games friends would tell me don't worry...so and so team will never come back...this game is over you are gonna win. Until you have bet hundreds and hundreds of game sand watched and looked at highlights and scores, you never know how many weird and impossible outcomes can and will happen. Murphy's law

Last weekend flew out to Vegas with my son and one of my employees met my cousin who came in from la. I'm the only sports gambler my cousin recreation kid just turned 21 employee fucken drunk. Put a nickel on buffalo my cousin does some 20 dollar bet on jags and saints and he would not shut the fuck up all afternoon .finally offered him 20 bucks or go away.sports gambling is a loner thing and it doesn't take much to get us going on any given Sunday. I always give my wife half my winnings whether it's Friday night poker or winning a game she keeps the B's to a minimum

Fucking hate. Giving up in the first half. Gave a guy army plus 7 in their bowl game. Got 3 texts crying about them. When they won outright, not a peep let alone a thank you.. this from a gambler! Last time. I don't tell anyone what I bet and I prefer to watch invested games with my dogs. Everyone is an expert at the gun.

I agree with you. Try to help, and you get an earful if it loses... and radio silent if it wins....!

All depends on how you acted or presented about your bet to your friends who don't seem like very good friends to me. EX: some posts I've seen on here:

Usually started by the thread titles: because it's the first thing you see is the thread title and attention can be drawn, #1 Lock word, others can't lose, biggest bet ever, strongest play of the year, flashing things or icons, numerous others just to many to mention.

I don't think you were because you seem sincere: If you were bragging about the amount you wagered, or cocky, or kept talking about it all the time, you can almost expect negative reactions.

You don't even have to have flashy threads or titles. Some people just want to see you lose. (sounds like your case) The one's that get me are the one's that will post on a losing thread but never on a winning thread.

I have a friend who all he does is talk about Kentucky basketball and how good they are every year and they seem always be good. (it gets old) Honesty here: I hope they lose every time they play unless I have money on them. He's still my friend and of course I have to hear about how bad Indiana is but part of it.

I have a cousin who I have sent my last 3 super bowl picks to - His reply has been "throw a nickle on that for me", he use to gamble on Sunday football and told me he lost tens of thousands of dollars so he gave it up....

He has never had to send me money :} but I know he is good for it guy is probably the wealthiest guy I know.

Last summer (we holiday together) he brought up how good I was at pick the super bowl winner in front of a group of people - Actually made me feel awkward. But I think it was good for the wife to hear - haha

I bet Pitt on that crazy Pats/Steelers game. A non gambling friend called me an idiot and mush for taking the Steelers. Now December might have been my best month of gambling ever. Hit some really nice games. This friend of mine wants me to buy him a ticket to a hockey game since I won so much. The reason he is asking is because after I hit the over on the Super Bowl for a nice tidy win I did that before and took a few friends out. This time not doing it. Keeping the money for myself.
