I’m not saying at this point that the Vikings will even make the SB, but is there any info of a team playing the Super Bowl in their backyard if any that is?

8 teams whose cities were Super Bowl hosts have made the playoffs, all 8 teams lost in the early playoff rounds.

Home advantage will fade away IMO. If it is in Minn with Minn playing, the game is much bigger than the location. Its a dome, so there is no weather factor.
What is crazy - is that the Jags could get there? Yikes! Better defense than Pats and a non-stop running game!

If Minny makes it, I don't think it's all that much of a "REAL" home field advantage. The NFL controls most of the tickets for corporate reasons and like everyone else, Minn fans will have to pay going rate of 2500. a seat. So how lopsided can it be when the opposite side has just as much of a chance to buy seats?

It's never happened officially but 1 time that people never do mention is the 9ers in '85 played in Stanford stadium. Basically a home game.

And crushed Miami.

It's definitely a huge advantage for Minn and really the only thing keeping the Pats from being big, big favs to win it all right now.

Minny hasn't been to the SB in 40 years though. And they've never won 1. All that $ that would normally go to lodging, airfare, food and every other travel expense their fans will be able to spend on tickets. It's going to be like 2004 when the Eagles made it for the 1st time, except it will be in their own backyard. I think people are underrating how much of a homegame it is going to be for them.

I think if they were playing different teams in the superbowl it might be less of a HFA but the Pats fans don't travel that well for these things because the sheer # of times they've played in the game already (and no one is dying to go to Minnesota in February) and JVille has no real fan base.

If it was Pittsburgh in the game then it might be different since their fans travel really well and it has been 7 years since they've been in the big game.

Also, Rams/Steelers in 1980 played in the Rose Bowl.

All good points Pats Fan, just forgot about NE fans being used to the game and the lack of travel funds needed for Minn fans if they reach it. We'll just have to wait and see.

If I'm not mistaken the participating teams get 10,000 tickets each. I'm pretty sure that the NFL controls the rest which basically wind up in the hands of the "well positioned" around the country. Some of them will scalp their tickets which will swell the Minnesota fan base as they will be the most likely buyers on that market. But I think the balance of the unattached fans are likely to root for the underdog. That would be against the Pats. Like Parsfan said, if Minny gets in it will be a very big advantage to them.
