The military group American Veterans (AMVETS) says the NFL has rejected its full-page Super Bowl program ad that contained the hashtag "#PleaseStand." The ad, with the picture a color guard holding the American flag, also included a call to donate $20 to AMVETS.

In a letter sent to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on Monday, AMVETS National Commander Marion Polk wrote that "freedom of speech works both ways." Polk goes on to say, "We respect the rights of those who choose to protest," but "imposing corporate censorship to deny those same rights to those veterans who have secured it for all is reprehensible."

Goodell said in a letter to teams in October that the NFL believes everyone should stand for the anthem, but added, "We also care deeply about our players and respect their opinions and concerns about critical social issues."

The NFL release a statement on Monday, saying they did not accept the ad due to it making a "political statement."

"The Super Bowl program is designed for fans to commemorate and celebrate the game, players, teams, and the Super Bowl. It has never been a place for advertising that could be considered by some as a political statement," NFL Vice President of Communications Brian McCarthy said in the statement.

Just like the vets said, Goodell is reprehensible.

I wish I had the willpower to turn the NFL off forever.

I won't be watching the super bowl. I don't miss the nfl. They do choose political sides so to say otherwise is bs. Now they are getting ready to commit 100 million dollars to liberal charities. It won't be on my dime.

I'm not sure I'm offended by "liberal charities", many do good (as do conservative charities). Donations for liberal "causes", now that's another story

the NFL has every right to reject this ad just like you have every right to not watch the game and assist in their continual ratings decline.

turn the channel, send a message

(btw i do look forward to Goodell's response when a few players take a knee at the anthem and get 1:30 of air time making their own political statement)

ideal scenario is that scumbag, roid-freak James Harrison continues sitting on the bench or kneeling during the anthem and gets at least 60 seconds of air time and then the NFL has to answer why an admitted woman batterer's political statement is allowed while 250k AMVETS members is not

this is what happens when you make a tobacco lobbyist your CEO

The NFL isn't interested in being political guys!!!

NFL establishes owner-player committee on social justice

NEW YORK (AP) — The NFL has established a player-owner committee focusing on social and racial justice initiatives.
The league also said Tuesday it is beginning a "Let's Listen Together" campaign that includes digital content and commercials highlighting player-led work on equality issues. That platform will include social media support and letters from players and owners.
Owners on the committee are Arizona's Michael Bidwill, Atlanta's Arthur Blank, Jacksonville's Shahid Khan, Cleveland's Jimmy Haslam and Miami's Stephen Ross. Current players Josh McCown, Josh Norman, and Kelvin Beachum, Pro Football Hall of Famer Aeneas Williams and former player Anquan Boldin are on the committee.

I don't know much about your other accusations against James Harrison, but I don't think he's taken a knee as a Patriot

Many on the team took a knee one game, the Sunday after Trump made his comment about the criminals running the asylum. And they were booed resoundingly by Patriot fans

The team has stayed out of that nonsense, probably because Belichick won't tolerate distractions. He's not Pete Carroll or Mike Tomlin in that regard
