Idaho to insurers: Give us plans that don't follow Obamacare

BOISE, Idaho (AP) -- Idaho is revealing a plan that will allow health insurance companies to sell cheap policies that ditch key provisions of the Affordable Care Act.

It's believed to be the first state to take such a step without prior federal approval.
Idaho's top insurance official revealed details Wednesday. He says creating policies that don't comply with some requirements of the Obama-era health care law is needed to help control rising costs.

He says he wants to make health coverage available to more people who have to buy their own policies.

Health care experts say the move is legally dubious, a concern supported by internal records obtained by The Associated Press.

One health policy consultant says even if the Trump administration lets Idaho move forward, a consumer group is likely to sue

I'm not an expert but it would seem to me that it would take an Act from Congress.

Good luck with that.

You never know - I would highly doubt the current administration is going to object to this - might end up being like weed

The Congress of the United States of America is dysfunctional. It already tried once and failed.
It's on a back burner at best. I don't see it being addressed until the ACA completely collapses
and even then all you'll see are band-aid after band-aid in an attempt to keep it afloat.

I still don't see what's so hard about fixing health insurance. But then again I'm not a member of Congress.

It's plausible that Trumped DOJ doesn't enforce Obamacare. Although I would like it if they didn't, I do want the administration to enforce the law of the land

We can't be like them

Stop funding for it.
Insurers and providers drop it.
People run from it.
Done.
