the LVGN are exceptionally well coached, play hard, and yes they
have talent. let's see what they do in the playoffs though.

I don't think so. There have been some horrible expansion teams in the past. Did those guys not feel the same way?

That Ottawa senators innagural squad was prob the worst hockey team I ever seen... the sharks were a complete shit fest as well. They were suppose to get the 1st overall pick in 90.. that was the Eric lindros draft.. they refused to give it to them and they got pat falloon instead.. that woulda changed the landscape some.. looks like the nhl figured it out with expansion drafts now
Vegas did some wheeling and dealing as well.. they even kept winning on there 4th-5th starting goalies lol..must be the white gloves.. I haven’t caught a game yet , waiting for them to finally play philly

When I see the LVGN acronym it makes me think of whatever that lesbian and gay acronym is, not a hockey team.

If they go in healthy not so sure of that. but should be interesting 1st round regardless who they play

Let's say they are the #1 seed.

Anyone of these teams can potentially be a 8th seed.

Wild
Kings
Ducks
Flames

And anyone of those teams above can send them home after rd. 1

For those of you in Vegas, Station Casinos is offering Stanley Cup prop bets for the Knights, (will they win it or not). The yes is +525. The no is a ridiculously priced -800. There’s not many times I’m tempted to lay 8 to win 1 on anything but this is one I probably will bite on.

As for their success at the half way point.

Chip on the their shoulders and numerous UFA’s playing for contracts is definitely a factor.

The timing of the Mandalay Bay shooting, (10/1), also brought the team together in a common cause. They were at the blood banks and made numerous public appearances in support of the community.

Players have been asked about their success and many have mentioned the fact that there were no established clicks in the locker room. Just a group of individuals playing as a team.

No doubt Gerard Gallant was the perfect man for this post.

My observations in watching them game in and game out tell me it’s a sum of the parts thing, much like the the 1980 miracle on ice.

No debating that the nature of the city and it’s distractions help in the Knights home ice advantage. In the beginning many teams were staying at places like Mandarin and surrounded by all the temptations Vegas has to offer. Now teams seem to be staying off strip like at Red Rock.

Teams taking them lightly earlier certainly had something to to with it but you can’t use that excuse anymore.

The energy at T-Mobile is amazing. 800+ standing room only tickets sold every game. Not an empty seat in the house although I must admit always a large contingent of visiting fans included. But no fights, no animosity, just good willed hockey fans enjoying a great atmosphere.

The Vegas Golden Knights made history on Sunday afternoon when they won Game 5 of their conference finals series over the Winnipeg Jets, earning a 4-1 series win and a berth in the Stanley Cup Finals.

As an expansion team, the Golden Knights pulled off the stunning feat of making the finals in the franchise’s first year in existence, something that no one predicted entering the season. Expansion teams are supposed to be bad, with the hopes that they can pull a few foundational players out of the draft and expansion draft to give themselves something to build off of. In Vegas, the thought was they would sell off their veteran players at the trade deadline to try and acquire more draft picks and future assets, but instead, they went on a tear and became buyers at the deadline.


The result has been the story of the year in hockey and truly one of the most incredible stories in recent sports history. For Vegas residents and fans, the Golden Knights going to the Stanley Cup Finals is a Cinderella story come true. For the Vegas sportsbooks, though, it’s a nightmare.

The Golden Knights opened the season at the bottom of the Stanley Cup odds, as low as 500-1 in some books, and that has produced a massive amount of liability in the books as tons of Vegas residents purchased themselves a little lottery ticket on the Knights in support of the hometown team. Now, that crazy shot in the dark is suddenly a near pick ’em (the Knights will be favored against the Capitals and slight dogs against the Lightning) and the sportsbooks are preparing for pain if the Knights pull it off.

That’s quite the statement but the numbers seem to back it up. Each book has at least one ticket outstanding that would pay $50,000 if the Knights win and that is just the tip of the iceberg.

For anyone out there with a longshot ticket on the Golden Knights, this is the time to hedge, not to be cute and blindly support the home team. The books hope everyone rides it out and the Lightning or Capitals beat the Knights, but even if Vegas does go on to win the Cup, it could help the books long term. It’s rare for a team to repeat as Stanley Cup champs and a Year 1 win would likely create quite the market for Vegas futures in the next few years, so while they may be in for a painful June, the books (as tends to happen) still might come out on top in the long run.

haha. That's hysterical. Most local resident's hockey acumen is likely the equivalent of a piece of furniture -- but fuck it, the city is littered with degenerates, soooooo put some money on an expansion team to win it all. Sometimes , it pays to be ignorant

The city is actually "littered with:"
1) thousands of transplants, from the east coast with many more from Canada...sure they root for their hometown team, but also can jump on the bandwagon and, they do know hockey
2) thousands more people with a service ethic since the who city relies on tourism and even hardened fans make sure the opposition has a good experience at the rink...just check out some threads from Jets fans attending games in LV. Besides that, they are always happy to contribute to the "Vegas flu" which is the malady referred to above that afflicts the visitors (not saying this has an impact on the playoffs though)
3) hundreds of show people who work at the various casinos delivering 5-6 nights of spectacle...that's how you get the opening for the LVK
4) there will be plenty of Clevelanders putting a wager on the Browns to win the super bowl this year...even that at $10 won't pay $5,000
