"There's a lot of blood, sweat, and guts between dreams and success."
"It's not the will to win that matters - everyone has that. It's the will to
prepare to win that matters."
"If a player is a quitter, I'd rather find out in practice than in a game."
Coach Bryant was a mean SOB for the tough practices he put his teams through,
but he got more out of his players than any football coach who has ever lived.
Greatest football coach ever in my opinion!
cloverleaf, well done sir! This great man, understood more than anyone ever will, what this great game he loved to teach and coach, how great a impact this great game would have on the men who played it. I have a autographed book signed by Coach Bryant, and I was offered thousands for it. I will never sell it as I have planned to leave it to my grandson, who hopefully will understand how this great teacher of men, used this single game to make better men out of those he touched.
+1
I met coach Bryant once and when I had to go up and shake his hand I was so nervous I almost wet
my pants. For Alabama boys during the day...he was bigger than life. We grew up watching his Sunday
TV show and wishing we could play for Alabama.
I love Saban and what he has accomplished for Alabama....but he AIN'T the BEAR!
He was drunk on Sunday morning, Charley had to correct every sentence
72-2 @ BDS
Very impressive.
Yeah Al...for some reason playing in Birmingham at Legion field was more important than
playing in a stadium where Bama dominated. Never fully understood that but attended many
games at Legion Field watching the Tide growing up. It was special at the time.
Legion Field now is a dump and home for UAB. UAB will have their own stadium in a few
years and the old lady can be torn down. God...the memories.........
Notice this old drunk Bamar fan who prob has never been to a game at Bryant Denny but goes sees the trophy at the local Piggly Wiggly , any post is usual ignorant
And
No no you drunk old man, that’s a fact. Charlie corrected Bear over and over on names and players he would get confused on. No your role and your facts
he did kinda ok though
The Irish had it [in] for the "Bear" dating back to his Kentucky days beginning in 1947.....The grudge festered for decades......You know how those Irish are, "forgive but never forget".
Heck, even the Terrapins were down on him, he lasted one year (1946) in College Park.......... Maryland fans said , he, Bryant, hated crab cakes and the word got out.
Footnote: They say the Bear ate Grits by the bowl-full while at Tuscaloosa; Interesting how little things that have nothing to do with coaching football end up being the deciding factor.....Records suggest Paul Bryant did extremely well when coaching Alabama football....."Please pass the Hominy" might work elsewhere at the training tables.
Mack, coach Bryant loved grits and coach Saban loves Little Debbie cakes. Eats them
everyday for/with breakfast. I don't know if Little Debbie has anything to do with it but
Saban is an incredible 132-20 SU at Alabama, including 43-1 versus .500 or less competition.
Six of his losses came during the 2007 season, his first with the Tide. The lone loss was that
same season against ULL (21-14) where Alabama was a 24.5 point favorite. Saban still
brings that game up during his press conferences.
Clover , you may not be aware of this but you're taking the wrong side here.
Hank Hahn is a huckster " tout wannabe " that posts both sides of the same game.
He is the exact kind of " horse shoe" you've been warning newbies about for years. .....and now you are taking nice with the con artist.
Guys, I'm well aware of Hankie!
My comments had nothing to do with him.
Now maybe you two can get the wad out of your panties. Jesus!
Mack, just trying to get this thread back on a positive note. You my friend will enjoy this story
about Coach Bryant told by Mal Moore. Coach Moore was a player, coach (0C), and athletic director
at Bama and the man who hired Nick Saban. He has since passed away.
You Tube - Alabama football legions reunion...(find) Bear Bryant story told by Mal Moore.
This thread started with a positive statement about Coach Bryant....then some how became negative.
Great pic back in the day Clover
Clover; This is always the danger when some people try to interpret the "written word" especially in a public forum, the result is often mis-interpretation. Thank God the Rx Moderators have kept out the Russians in view of what has just unfolded in the political arena today. The NFL has now played games in London and Mexico City, let us hope (and pray) that they don't schedule any games in Moscow.
