LaVar Ball blasts Warriors’ Steve Kerr as ‘the Milli Vanilli of Coaching’

LaVar Ball was an ocean away from the Grammys on Sunday, but that didn't stop the Big Baller Brand CEO-turned-pro coach for a day in Lithuania from invoking one of the award show's most infamous frauds to blast Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr. In an explosive interview with BasketNews' Jonas Miklovas following Vytautas' 151-130 win over Jonavos Jonava in the finale of the Big Baller Brand Challenge Games on Sunday, the Ballfather lambasted Los Angeles Lakers coach Luke Walton's former boss, who has derided LaVar as "the Kardashian of the NBA," in explaining how easy coaching can be.

"He's the Milli Vanilli of coaching," the Big Baller said. "What I mean is, you can go stand in the same spot like Luke Walton did and win 20-something games when you've got the right horses just running. Sometimes less coaching is the best coaching, but some of these guys like to act like they've really coached some guys that know how to play.

"How do you coach KD [Kevin Durant], Steph Curry, Draymond Green And Klay Thompson? You know how you coach them? You don't. Turn your back and let them do what they do."

LaVar went on to criticize Kerr for what he saw as the coach looking to "jump up and try to take all the credit" for the work former Warriors coach Mark Jackson put in immediately before Golden State's historic championship era began.

"That's why I call him the Milli Vanilli of coaching, because he's not MJ," LaVar said, "not Michael Jackson but Mark Jackson."

In truth, Kerr wouldn't likely argue with the Ballfather's contention that having great players has made his job easy. Time and again, he's taken a deprecating tack toward his role with the Warriors, crediting his star-studded roster for making him look smart.

Where Kerr might take umbrage-if he opts to acknowledge the questions that are sure to come from the media surrounding Golden State-is with LaVar's contention that he's tried to claim Jackson's work as his own. Here, too, Kerr has often credited his predecessor for turning around what had been a moribund culture in Oakland by instilling in his players the importance of team defense and rebounding.

Nonetheless, the Big Baller's latest bout of bluster is bound to spark another firestorm of controversy stateside, an ocean away from where he's currently stationed. And though LaVar's first pro win came in an exhibition that won't count in the Lithuanian (LKL) League standings, he won't have to give it back, unlike Milli Vanilli.

Ball is a huge racist & makes everything bout the race card.......

For once I agree with this assessment. Why ESPN continues to give him a platform is an embarrassment to the profession. How they continue to write the articles about his younger 2 sons is also below journalist integrity..."Blah and blah score 40 and 31 points in Lithuania league game"...than at almost the bottom of the article or sometimes even the last sentence..."this wasn't really a league game as the sons don't play much if at all in those but a Big Baller Brand game for low end competition and only for teenagers".....perhaps start the article with this lines...instead of trying to pretend these 2 are tearing up international basketball.

They write it because people read it. People love having lightning rods to hate.

Every time this guy says something it is posted on this website. There is your proof for starters.

When Kerr said Lavar is the Kardashian of the NBA, he left out 1 crucial point. Kardashians are rich and always in the news.

You are exactly correct...i just wish they would inform you within the first paragraph if this was a league game or just an exhibition.

Lakers should just hire him to coach, would be like in the movie "Eddie" when the Knicks hired Whoopi Goldberg.

I mean honestly he has a point. This is basketball, and they all shoot, pass, and defend better than anyone and it really isn't even close. Only thing stopping them from winning is injuries. And that is what will happen in due time because the west is getting stronger and the Clippers are clearing space for Lebron I think. I do think Kerr would be a good coach if he was elsewhere. But, he has 4 all stars. The best player in the NBA ( Durant). AND they were undefeated in the playoffs WITHOUT Kerr. Or maybe they lost one game to the Rockets. But regardless they were dominating teams with Mike Brown as the head coach.

West is going to get so strong they are going to try to take away home court from Golden St. in the coming years.

And he gets a pass because he is a homeboy. A white guy says some of the stuff he said and he wouldn't be allowed on any TV show. Of course he could come to the Rx and say the same thing and not be banned but I say the same thing about him and I would be. Par for the course

I love the adage of because the players are black, the coaches should be black as well. LOL. Head coaching is strategy and brains. That is not the blacks strong suit. Some of the dumbest head coaches ever seen in the NFL are black and the NBA has black coaches just because the players are racist and win/lose still prefer black coach over white.
