I dont smoke anymore but when I did, I still wouldnt smoke a menthol.

But who the hell are they (gov) to tell me how to kill myself. This cancer giving product is ok, but not this one isnt. I hate this shit. Our founding fathers didnt try to protect us from ourselves.

Opponents of a bill to ban the sale of menthol cigarettes say small businesses would lose more than a quarter of their annual sales if it becomes a law, but lawmakers argued on Monday that a prohibition could reduce the prevalence of nicotine addiction and cancer in the state.
“We recognize that revenue loss, if there is one, is more than matched by the gain in lives,” said Assemblyman Herb Conaway, D – Burlington, chairman of the Assembly Health and Senior Services Committee, which advanced the bill on Monday after a 7-3 vote.
New Jersey would be the first state in the nation to have a ban on the sale of menthol cigarettes, should the bill become law, lawmakers said at the committee hearing. Last summer, San Francisco became the first city in the country to ban the product, according to reports.
"Right now, let’s focus on the worst offender and that is the menthol applied to these combustible products," said Conaway, an internal medicine doctor at St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton. "They are enemy number one when it comes to lung diseases in our country."

The proposed legislation would amend the current law, which prohibits the sale of flavored cigarettes. The bill is headed to the Assembly Appropriations Committee for review.
The cooling agent in menthol cigarettes, like flavored cigarettes, masks the harshness of cigarette smoke, making the product more appealing to first-time smokers or young adults, according to data in a 2013 report by the Federal Food and Drug Administration.

“Further, the data indicate that menthol in cigarettes is likely associated with greater addiction,” the report states. “Menthol smokers show greater signs of nicotine dependence and are less likely to successfully quit smoking.”

But banning the sale of menthol cigarettes would be detrimental to convenience store owners, said Mary Ellen Peppard, the assistant vice president of government affairs at the New Jersey Food Council, which is an alliance of food retailers.
“Our members report that menthol cigarettes comprise about 35 to 40 percent of their total product sales,” Peppard said. The loss in sales would result in a significant shortfall in tax revenue and could bring the potential for a black market on the product, Peppard said.
Lawmakers opposed to the bill expressed similar concern. Assemblyman Erik Peterson, R - Hunterdon, said those seeking menthol cigarettes could simply travel to neighboring states to make the purchase, bringing the products into the state that way.
"I’m more concerned about reducing the prevalence of nicotine addiction and reducing the prevalence of cancer among our society," said Conaway, an internal medicine doctor at St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton.
Assemblywoman Holly Schepisi, R - River Vale, and Assemblyman Brian Rumpf, R - Ocean, also voted against the bill.

Damn, this is the first time I agree with a liberal.........I concur with all your opinions & sentiments on these vices.

One think I don't like that Trump is doing is going after doctors for prescribing their pain patients opiates. Him & the DOJ Sessions are taking the 1980's approach to drugs, & you can't do this now a days......especially with doctors.

Acetaminophen overdose is the leading cause for calls to Poison Control Centers across the US—more than 100,000 instances per year

Each year, acetaminophen overdose is responsible for more than 56,000 emergency room visits, 2,600 hospitalizations, and an estimated 458 deaths due to acute liver failure

Acetaminophen poisoning is responsible for nearly HALF of ALL acute liver failure cases in the US. It can be toxic to your liver even at recommended doses when taken daily for just a couple of weeks

In the United States alone, 100,000 people who takes NSAIDs are hospitalized every single year, and approximately 15,000 die.

These pain killers have been linked to a 40-60 percent increase in cardiovascular problems compared to non-users, as well as hearing loss, gastrointestinal complications, heart failure, miscarriages, and allergic reactions; and the numbers are high. In total, approximately 60 million Americans are taking NSAIDS, with*Ibuprofen being*one of the most common.

Where is the outrage over these over the counter meds?

How many people die from alcohol each year? I don't see the Sessions going after beer distributors & alcohol companies.....start closing down bars & arresting bartenders, like they're going after doctors.......its all a scam.

You can call me what you want but I look at each topic and each candidate independently. When I vote its for the candidate that most lines up to what is important to me at that time. I do not and will not ever label myself a party or group.

And as to what else you said, Bill Burr just cameo-ed on the show Crashing and had a little rant about opiates and smoking or abortion. I forget, hes all over the place most times. Ill try and find it.

True. Its big Pharma (and the gov that allows them to profit insane amounts of $ from being licensed pushers) that is evil. Doctors and users are just sucking from the teat. At least a illegal drug dealer is just a dealer. Big Pharma are pushers with lobbyists and a marketing divisoion.

Just going off some of your posts against Trump & his policies ......I for one am not a republican, im an independent moderate to liberal on some policies......I can also be conservative on certain issues.

No way can I be conservative on every issue, & I can't be liberal on every issue either.

I just thought Trump was fine better than any repub candidate & Sanders & Hillary were a joke.

Anyway, we can be bipartisan on several issues.

Uck. This past election was literally, pick the lesser of all evils. And that went back to the practically the early primaries.

And as worked up as I get on some issues, its all about open discussion and sharing of ideas. And the party system is tearing us as country apart.(God I sound like a hippy right there)
